When I began watching Tara's UA-cam videos, I had no idea she was an Olympic athlete. I just enjoyed her energy, joy and zest for life. When I saw her at the Paris Olympics, I shouted to my husband that's the UA-camr I occasionally watch. It was like seeing a good friend. Loved cheering her on and was ecstatic watching her win an Olympic gold!

Malaika has been asked how she felt. She answered and people are shitting on her here. Incredible. No one of you probably competed while not being fully recovered from an infection. I can tell you from my personal experience: It is VERY frustrating not being able to show what you've trained for, considering that you work for a long period to get there!
Beside that, she isn't even disappointed which she even mentioned there. Why should she? She won everything what's possible. Everything what is coming after Tokio is and will be just a bonus for her 😌

From I heard all the bullshit about her struggling to breathe etc etc I knew this was the narrative people like you were going to push that Tara would not have won had Malika been in full shape. We could say that about every event. Maybe Simone Biles would have gotten gold instead of Rebecca from Brazil if she hadnt messed up. Maybe Shericka Jackson from Jamaica would have gotten gold instead of Gabby Thomas, had Sshe not been injured. You show up to compete, you know what you are getting into and you are confident in your abikities and fitness to take you to the top. Do no excuses. I think Malaika is not disappointed to have lost against Davis-Woodhall , but because she was completely exhausted after fighting Covid and feeling so bad. She tried everything but was finally knocked down. Only 6 weeks ago, she jumped 7,22m in Rome. Then Covid stopped her.
There are more athleten struggling which have been infected these days. Covid might be unnoticed until the point when you go to the limits. I guess Femke Bol had be struck by it in the 400m hurdles final also.

All americans here should consider that Malaika isn’t a native English speaker and was just answering the questions that she was asked as well as that there are cultural differences between the US and Germany. In no way her responses were salty or rude. My first impression of Tara was also, that she was disrespectful here but I guess if you take into consideration that this press conference is a bit awkward, she is pumped because of her gold medal win and is more of the extrovert type, I bet she didn’t mean to come across as disrespectful as Malaika wasn’t rude for just answering questions about her health.

I am a German myself, who lived in San Diego for a long time and I really like that Tara is goofy, charismatic confident because that is kinda how I am. But there’s a fine line between confidence and overconfidence. Why is she messing around with her phone during the press conference while another athlete is speaking? Why does she want all the attention all the time? Is that American?! I wonder?! 😉 Also, if Malaika hadn’t gotten sick beforehand, things might have turned out differently. I mean she still ended up in second place after all. Just saying. Tara was the strongest, but this constant craving for attention isn’t really appealing. That has nothing to do with being self-assured.

It's just disrespectful. Of course she can be happy and celebrate her win. But when there's a serious topic talked about, be respectful, don't interfere and take it serious. 14:01 So, how disrespectful you wanna behave while Mihambo answers the questions about her current health issues?
    Moore: A little
    Davis-Woodhall: Yes!
... Seriously, how low can attention spam get only because a fellow athlete spends one minute talking in her native language? 🤦🏽‍♀️ Mihambo, who'd already won Olympic gold in Tokyo btw, got silver tonight with a long-covid infection! That alone deserves mad respect, even when the topic doesn't concern you.

So happy for Tara, she's come a long way from Tokyo and just wants the sport as a whole to grow so much. I understand Malaika is healing and maybe unhappy with her result, but that's sports, give Tara her flowers and be proud of what you still accomplished, there are many athletes who are recovering from things. Came off very salty.

  • @alhaitham9798

Now I know the reason why Malaika lost. It's amazing to get silver when you are struggling with breathing at such an elite level.

  • @chrisb.5592

Never seen an olympic press conference with two so childish and disrespectful athletes from the US.
Why should Malaika hide her feeling just a few minutes after a medical issue? Her seasonal best was 7,22m this year, so enough potential to win this, so its ok to be depressed about Covid (like Noah Lyles)

And for the record, I don’t think she was being rude at all. The girl was speaking German. I’m not sure if anyone else in the room understood what she was saying other than the person she was talking to. What it sounded like was her reiterating the fact that she felt like her being sick was the reason why she didn’t perform and that can be viewed as diminishing the success of the other athletes. It sounded like she was saying that if she had been at Tokyo and if she had been at the top of her game, then results would be different but maybe that’s not what she meant
