23:43 The first game had a small terrarium on the ship, and you collected plant seeds to put in. Its only purpose was for collection/decoration, and an achievement if you got them all. This gardening is obviously way more involved right out of the gate here. I would imagine that, since they're expanding the system, it will be for more than just achievements. But we'll have to wait and see what it ends up being.
I honestly would kind of love that. A star wars game where you don't play a generic white guy swinging a lightsaber. How many star wars games are there where you actually get to play the weirder looking aliens? The first Star Wars Jedi game was great though, so just more of that is a pretty good deal too.
I like that they added a lot of customization. That was one of the things that disappointed me about the first one. Plus, having towns and such is a nice addition. Overall it looks like a lot of the same but just way more polished and feature rich.
I firmly believe the first game is the best thing that's happened to Star Wars during the Disney era. Very excited for this one! Thanks for the insight Jeff.
I'm so happy they added dismemberment for all enemies, that's such a good response to the backlash they got when it came to that particular aspect of the game.

Im about half way through the first game I need to finish before this comes out. I went ahead and beat forbidden west to get ready for its dlc. Also beat elden ring oils beating it on new game plus to get ready for its dlc. This game looks great
How's the items / equipments in this game? Last time it was full of cosmetics for light sabers and clothings that I don't really care, and it's kinda disappointing, since they are rewards for exploration. Hopefully they have more substantial items in this game. So far the game looks pretty good. Thanks Jeff, for the video!
I enjoyed the first game and finished it, so will check this one out. I'm personally not a fan of how many games are trying to ride on the Dark Souls/Elden Ring trend at the moment (hell, even Kena did, and visually it looks like some approachable 'Disney-esque' experience that you could give to your kids), but I guess it will pass like everything else
I think this Dark Souls meets Tomb Raider is a great place for a Star Wars game to be. I saw more weirdo creatures and dudes than in the last three movies combined. That's the stuff I come to Star Wars for.
Some good gameplay here. I have more questions now since I didn’t get hands-on time with it, but definitely pleased with how this build looks. Can’t wait to play the final game soon.
I'm sure this game doesn't have a John Williams style arrangement of Destiny's Child's Survivor, but you know that it should. (a jizz cover would be fine too)
lol jeff and his old crew used to do that a lot...If they liked the first game in a series and were shocked by it they played it all the way through or a bit and had a good impression of it like outer worlds where they loved it but stopped after a while...then when the sequel comes out they are bumbed out and think its not as good as fond memories of the prior game when the sequel usually has more and is more indicative of the entire experience of the first game, or they play the first, bump off, feel its not there or quit before reaching the good stuff, then the sequel comes and by then they forgot about the game so the features that were in the prior game seem fresh, and they give it more of a chance since its more polished and has more to do as a sequel, and they are excited by a ton of features you get late game that are given at the beginning of the new game. I guess it would work well if games just started off with all the cool stuff, but then you'd get no progression. I think most don't finish games so it would sell if they just made the opening 3 hours crazy and petered off...when reviews say its bad people would not believe them cause streamers show the first hours or so before jumping to the newest hot game for view chasing. Scummy all day
What is the last game you played through Jeff? Why would you skip a game from one of your favorite game devs? I also lie to myself with many of my backlogs.
He played it on launch when the game was broken as hell with crashes and it came out during GOTY discussions. I think Brad was the only one who played it to credits before year end.
I wanted to love the first game, and I mostly did until I had to find my way back after completing a mission. The map layout was so damn confusing. So if that's better then I'll be much more into this one.
This is a small thing - but I wish some of the non-core character aliens actually *sounded* like aliens. Just have Kal sort of understand them and let the player pick up what's going on from context. It's disappointing when the giant slug-shopkeeper dude sounds like he runs a gas station down south.
Oh good... AAA climbing. I think I'm good on that. I just don't understand why every damn AAA game has to have climbing segments. There's no tension, no palpable fear of the climbing... it's just a silly, silly dated mechanic that I feel Stig Asmussen has carried over from all of the old God of War games where all of this climbing nonsense really took hold. Can we please stop with the climbing? 😂
Oh no! 4 seconds of climbing every now and again! What a deal breaker! Lets reduce traversal and just make maps be on a single plane! Jesus gamers are the most overreacting bunch of clowns in history.
There is a blaster, and the other Lightsaber stance is that useless Kylo Ren Cross lightsaber, which in reality would be great to the wielder to lose some fingers if he lost control of the saber during a fight.
To be fair they explain why his cross lightsaber is like that...its the people who hype it up cause its different but its cause he didn't use a refined method to build it, those are like exhaust pipes otherwise its messed up. Context clues being the show don't tell, light saber constantly fluttering on the edges in the films. I have only seen the last 3 films but that's what i gather. It goes with his character.
@@Livingeidolon Yeah, here it's mostly for aesthetics for the fans. I guess you technically can use it when in a duel and they do that sword back-to-wall thing like the movie and burn you. Ehh, it's a game, your character by the end is way overpowered and can use all these fighting styles that should take years to master...I enjoyed the kotor 1 and 2 games before I ever watched the films, and read somewhere when I was trying to figure out what's the deal with lightsabers and why only jedi use them. Loved the idea that they're so light because they have less physics as they slice through air that they are easy to just swing and cut your own arm off so jedi use precognition to tell where the sword is going and they dance them around all stupid not for cool points but to get momentum back in their favor after a missed swing...then I saw the movie and notice ok...me as a non fan cares more about this than them...ill just treat them like everything else...just fun videogames. lol. PS: To this day still think KOTOR 1 would make a great movie and make most die hard star fans happy for once...
An interesting video, but I'll always prefer real-time content (Jeff playing games or live-reacting to a press conference) without any NDA restrictions to worry about what can and can't be talked about.
The OG Mass Effect looks better than Andromeda. The OG Dragon Age looks better than Inquisition(which is kind of a horrible looking game in retrospect). Tomb Raider looks better than that Avengers game. There is something fucked up with this industry rn. Minus the Sony stuff, Blizzard maybe and a few other studios, it's not looking good. It's almost like they put out games that are just AAA on the surface. Like Starfield. In motion and art direction wise that game looks like complete shit for example.
I guess it's just me but I'm looking at this and all I can think is some game designer got paid a six figure salary to go "hey you know dark souls and zelda? what if we did dark souls and zelda but also star wars?" six-figure salary…
Is it me or does the animations here look kinda awful? Like ME3 run animation levels of bad. Some current AAA-releases just give me emperors new clothes vibes, idk. Is the industry actually regressing? These animations seriously look worse than stuff from 20 years ago.
Jef Rules. Simple as.
Honestly looks like the best Star Wars game we've had in a while, but I would really like Titanfall 3 now.

Had my doubts about the Jedi Colon series but it's looking tight.
Can't wait to get some hands on time with it.
I always trust Jeff Gerstmann got that spoiler-free Colon Sneak Peek
The first game was surprisingly good. Probably the best of the new wave of SW games
@@Ddarke11 Do be sure to wear gloves to avoid stinky fingers!
Judge me by my colon, do you?
there is a MGS 2 type of switcheroo where after the prologue you play as Sebulba for the rest of the game. this is very cool.
Thank God. Sebulba always wins.

The first Star Wars Jedi game was great though, so just more of that is a pretty good deal too.
Maybe they're gonna do the reverse Kyle Katarn: a Jedi that transforms into a scoundrel. At least he has the outfit ready to go.
Well, if it isn't one of my favourite Jeff Gerstmenn.
Once you go Jeff you are Jeff for life.
I agree with you. Because I am also you except signed in with the correct account.

21:42 almost made me spit out my water lol
I enjoyed the first one but the thing I didn't like that looks like it returned are the sliding downhill segments
does he get voted off the jedi island in the end
"But hey now you've got a gun" Nailed it!
They totally just give you a gun at some point. It was in one of the trailers.
"Jizz Jockey" isn't a profession I needed to know about

Good to see el gigante gets work
I especially like the rancor eating the player alive we should see more of that in games. Horrifying kill moves are great.
The real colon was the rancor we were inside of all along
I enjoyed the first game a ton even if I didn't think it was the best game ever, so looking forward to this one!
You can "Yoshi sacrifice" the mount when you jump!
I don't like Star Wars but the previous Jedi game was fantastic. Can't wait to give this one a try.

Love these videos Jeff, thank you so much for them.
This certainly looks like another one of those games
Spot on

Did the Star Wars franchise always have FF chocobo looking things you could ride?
Good morning Jeff!
In true (old) GB fashion, most of this video is Jeff thinking things that were in the first game are new and cool.
Looks like you start off with your full kit from the first one (double jump included!). I love it when games do that.
@7:59 Oddball alien goobers?!?! SIGN ME THE HELL UP
they put the live slug reaction guy in it!

Look like a vast improvement on the first game. Still think some of the animations are a bit off looking at times though.
Yeah, I love the first game and can't wait for this one but you're right. It's transition animations don't quite slide together right.
His run is super awkward
lol the cosmetic change they made to Cal makes him look like a sovereign citizen that really wants to talk to you about muddin'.
Jedi:the force is for defence
Also jedi:yo, what if I stab this guy's face!?
Yep, looks decent. So many games over the next two months though

Jedi Colon Survivor is the newest offshoot of the Digital Devil Survivor
Thanks for showing this Jeff. I liked the first one well enough, I am a little surprised this one doesn’t look much better graphically.
I disagree, this one looks way better graphically
First one has a very cool ending Jeff. I recommend getting back to it some day.

I want to dream that Cal Kestis is looking for Kyle Katarn to team up and save the day
what is his right arm doing while he is running, that is a weird animation
The wall run and rope force pull stuff was from the first game. iirc wall run was like the first thing you learn? lol.

Curious how well or poorly the sequel will run on the Series S considering it's not a cross gen game like most other recent games.
Yeah, the game was performing not so good on PS4 last time, hopefully it's better now
fallen order ran so bad on last gen that releasing it there was ethically questionable
