    I prefer using af:on too af OFF using index finger to meter and focus...leaving my thumb too stop a.f. or move my focus point with the multi controller.

    Nice video and initial suggestions for the buttons swapping, but what does intervalometer/time-lapse have to do with having to change them first thing when getting a camera? Maybe I'm missing something.......

    Hi:
    I just bought the Canon 5DS camera and switched from JPG to RAW. But the photos won't transfer to my 128 GB SD card to transfer them to my computer.
    WHY?
    Thank you.

    Toby, definitely gotta set up the joystick to control the AF point. That's a very crucial feature of the 7D, 5D and 1D series cameras.

    • @photorectoby
      @photorectoby  9 років тому +1

      +Kevin DiOssi I completely forgot that isn't the default. Yes - I do that too. Thanks!

    • @kevindiossi
      @kevindiossi 9 років тому +1

      PhotoRec Toby I figured that too. It's such a great setup to use ergonomically and what makes the Canon "X"D series cameras stand out from others in my eyes/use.

    • @photorectoby
      @photorectoby  9 років тому

      +Kevin DiOssi It is and I am not shooting lots with the Sony a7Rii and REALLY miss the easy focus point selection on the Canon.

    • @kevindiossi
      @kevindiossi 9 років тому

      PhotoRec Toby I can see that. I truly think the SLR has a firm place for simple features like that. But, mirrorless may actually be experienced as a better alternative for some types of photography like many landscape shooters. Wedding, sports, and journalists (70% of my work) still lean on SLR ergonomics and features...although it was funny to watch you and Christina argue a bit over that on Mish Mash last week. LOL

    I just can't seem to get used to using back button focusing. I am so trained with the half press over the past 20 or so years of autofocus I just can't seem to untrain myself.

    • @photorectoby
      @photorectoby  9 років тому +2

      +SupraWes it took me a few days but I can't go back now :)

    • @Whittmike2011
      @Whittmike2011 7 років тому

      SupraWes I understand what you mean, but only because of the location of the button. It can be awkward, reaching for it with your thumb! On my 7D it is much easier, when shooting profile shots, because the layout is a bit better!

    • @SupraWes
      @SupraWes 7 років тому

      I retried using back button focusing last year and I havent gone back since, so I guess it just took a second try for me. Also the realization that I could just press it once for a one shot type focus and recompose, or hold it down for focus tracking with continuous AF enabled was a huge eye opener for me to make the switch.

    Do you customize your depth pf field preview button? I have mine set to switch over to AI servo using my ring finger, I find that my ring finger rests naturally in that location anyway. If I am in single shot mode and my subject does start to move on me a single finger press allows me to track them.

    • @photorectoby
      @photorectoby  9 років тому +1

      +stoneworrior I haven't but you are the second person to suggest this and I don't use the ap preview so I think I will do this!

    Guys i have a question about Focusing shots. I have a T3I which as most of you probably know doesnt come with auto focus which is okay with me however if i am gonna be standing some distance away from the camera but also some distance away from the wall behind me how can i focus the camera when there is going to be nothing in the shot to focus. because obviously if i stand in position for a video i cant reach out and focus my camera because ill be too far away

    • @photorectoby

      +EnrichingMomentsPhotography By Elizabeth It does not. You can install magic lantern and record at very low frame rates which is almost identical - in fact I would say it is the same - you just have to take the effort of installing ML.

    BBF is more work. It takes an extra step to accomplish! With focus tied to shutter button all is accomplished in ONE motion. With BBF it takes two steps across two fingers! I do not see how that is easier? If you want to focus only once and then shoot why not focus automatically and then put lens in manual mode! Then your focus is fixed and you can shoot away. If BBF was the norm in cameras and the shutter method came along you would be lauding focus with the shutter button for it's simplicity and economy of motion.

    • @photorectoby
      @photorectoby  7 років тому +3

      Hi Antonio, most pros use BBF for the reasons I mention in this video and in this article photorec.tv/2012/05/back-button-focusing/ AND while it's true it does take two fingers you can press them at the same time and that is way easier to do than switching your lens to manual which would be a pain to switch back .

    This is an overpriced piece of rock for $3,899 ! Common, now people will spend that kind of money, for having an intervalometer? The dynamic range is bullshit. Focusing, a fast moving bird, is lame, at the best !!

    • @sandeepvk

      Like I said, feel free to do what you want, while the rest of us who actually care about photography work on taking great shots, not arguing with strangers on the internet about specs. While you're off in the corner raving like a crazy person and worrying about what's the latest and greatest (which will be inevitably surpassed), we're all shaking our heads and improving our work.
