    I see that a lot of people are thinking that the commentators are over complimenting Hafu, but here is the thing, until one month ago she only knew the pieces movements. It is very rare to see someone improve so fast.
    Her moves are incredible because she should not be seeing those tactics being a begginer in the game. Not that the moves per si are that difficult for any experienced player.

      @@thotfortwice The Queen's Gambit definitely helped, but Chess was getting really big with the Pandemic. A lot of streamers started picking it up, and celebrities too. Then TQG came out and cemented that chess could be entertaining.

    hafu is the godliest gamer i know. i don't know of a single competitive game where she does not rise to the top within weeks of starting. started as a wow pro, then hearthstone, league, tft, runeterra, among us, and chess.
    there are people better than her at a specific game, but i've never seen someone be so good at so many games so quickly. she's really just that hardworking with a great growth mindset

      Let's be honest, it's not just hard work (although that's a factor). If you can master so many strategy games so quickly, it has something to do with intrinsic intelligence. Look at the Polgar sisters -- they all had exactly the same training regiment in chess and only one of them became an international star.

      @@otherwords1375 Rather than intrinsic intelligence, it's more accurate to say personalities and latent interest. The Polgar sisters are all extremely good at chess, but one is better than the others. Your training can be the same, sure. But if you have more interest, you'll focus more and spend more of your free time on it. Intrinsic intelligence makes it sound like it's a genetic thing. It really isn't at all. Growth mindset yo :p

      I had a friend who was in some local tournaments, I beat him after a few games, learned his tricks. I had some embarrassing losses, but he showed me how to attack from coverage as it seems like a random move and it's only chess after you move your other piece, so basically you get a free move. before that, I was just reacting to moves and seemed mostly random. I still feel it's a bit random to me, and I would be bored memorizing stuff, but now that I watched a few videos I'm sure I would beat some of the people who I played with before.

      Aces just made a mistake in the late opening and missed a tactic to lose the bishop. Hafu played amazing. I think missed an absolutely crushing move near the end with b5! after Kb1. Queen has to go to c1 to get traded off or else the rook falls. Either way, well played.

    I really liked their cooperative pre-game prep and agreements: no tricks and help each other despite them being opponents (on the board). Cudos to both players! I'm very impressed by Hafu.

    I just watched a vid from Hikaru where he was reading and discussing an article that essentially called pogchamps a disgrace to chess where the players were just being laughed at by the commentators. Clearly, the author never watched this or most of the other episodes. This just inspires me. I want to see Hafu improve. I want to see Fintan improve. I just love it.     I think at 16:00 if hafu had gone and went g5|b5 that would have been better, skewering the rook behind, forcing a trade where black still has advantage, and opening the rook's file if they do go for the trade

    I wonder what easywithaces would do against pawn from b7 to b5 at 18:48 because there isn't any really good options for his queen and after moving the queen black will either have the option to force a trade of queens or can attack the queen with the knight opening up the d file for the rook at the same time. At the very least Hafu would get a free pawn on f4 I'm pretty sure.

    Hafu is kind of a 1500 to 1700 elo player disguised as a 1200+
    Compared to the rest (except for one in particular that I know of), her power level is over 9000.
