***** About Venison for Dinner *****
Thank you for joining us on this crazy journey! Our family- Kate and Marius plus our five kids, have always enjoyed living a homemade life whenever possible. Moving 1000 miles north in 2017 to Northern BC, Canada upped our game even more. We live on a 34 acre homestead and get a kick out of things like raising our own meat, dairy and vegetables. Theres plenty of failures, you’ll be sure to see those here too. We’re a homeschooling family who believes life is the best teacher but we do hit the books in winter. I’m so glad you’re here, I hope you stick around!
We put out 2 new videos every week! Wednesday and Saturday. We hope you will become part of our homestead family by subscribing to our channel and watching as we give up the rat race and live simpler, more fulfilling life in the country.

How in the world do you only have 12.6K subscribers? That is nuts! You bring so much value and teach so much. I bet it is odd to go from milking a cow to going down to small teets of a goat. I am sure you are used to it. To a newbie, it would be strange. What does a bear taste like? Or does a bear have its own flavor and not comparable to anything? It is brilliant to put the frosting on the inside! Do you have the pizza crust recipe on your blog?

    • @VenisonforDinner

Thank you Jackie! Hopefully my subscriber base will just continue to grow. Bear tastes like a dryer cut of beef in my opinion. We mainly make it into cured cuts like salami.
Sorry my pizza crust isn't on the blog. Maybe one day?

What you should do is put the fresh milk in the freezer for 30 minutes to cool the milk before putting in the fridge. It makes the milk better to chill it fast. That is why regular dairy’s have plate coolers.

awww, go baby boy go! I have a grandbaby who's almost 4 months old now. Its so so amazing watching them become aware of their bodies and the world around them. Love your videos, post as often as you can please. Love your 'real' style not pretending to be the perfect family. I once had a friend tell me something about one of my kids I wasnt aware of and she told me she was just shocked about it. I asked her why and she said "because I thought you guys had it all together, you look like the perfect family." My jaw dropped, then I busted out laughing to tell her, "theres no such thing, no we are NOT 'perfect' in any way shape or form, you need to get to know us better, you'll see. 😂 You dont stay married to someone for 30 years and live under any illusion that your lives have ever been 'perfect'. But we are very happy (mostly and most days) with each other, and that real, perfect is not.
You are perfect for each other and your depth of love shows. Whatever hurdles come into your path as individuals or as a family, I believe you will always overcome (or go around lol whatever works right?) them because you genuinly love and respect each other.
ps.. jealous your husband cooks breakfast at least sometimes. My husband is completely clueless in the kitchen so I do all the cooking rather than risk food poisoning.

Always look forward to you videos Kate! You have a beautiful family and a beautiful life, and I love that you don't try to come accross as polished and perfect. I find your content both entertaining and inspiring.
My husband and I are starting our homestead this year and we just started digging up our garden beds and have a bunch of seeds started that I bought from West Coast Seeds after watching your gardening chats with your sister! My first tray is dying, dampening off I think, gotta stop praying from above. You'd think it would be simple... I was spraying from above because my cells were at different levels of moisture, took me a while to realize they weren't tamped down enough and I had air pockets. Wish me luck for the season! Are you planting anything different this year?

    • @VenisonforDinner
      @VenisonforDinner  2 роки тому +1

There is so much to learn in gardening and starting seeds. I hope your next tray of seeds is working out!

@@VenisonforDinner lol, no worries, I never really expect a reply from anyone on social, real life is way more important.
My other trays, some are OK. We had a friend do a bunch of starts for us as an experiment and she put them in her window and they grew beautifully, about 5 times the size of ours. We had them under grow lights, so I'm pretty sure we need to give them more light. Next years should be better after our house is built, we'll have tons of south facing windows.

Goat keeper from Texas here (so take my advice w a grain of salt), I would agree to shave the goat udder bc that little bit of hair isn't helping her stay real warm. Itll be very helpful while milking though to shave her.
Do you have a video on kefir? I know next to nothing about it. And making sour cream?

How do you freeze your shredded mozzarella? I have been making a fair bit and freezing and went to take some out and it had frozen in a solid block. I was thinking about pre-freezing it on a cookie sheet or freezing in smaller batches/bags, but am looking for any ideas.

When I put it into the ziplock bags I don't compress it into a ball. I lay the bag our flat and that way I can take out a clump when I only need small amounts.
