Bakatonosama Mahjong Manyuki (NGH-036) Neo Geo Generation | Basement Brothers | Neo Geo Collection

- R.I.P. Ken Shimura.
The next game in our Neo Geo survey, NGH-036, Bakatonosama Mahjong Manyuki, mahjong game from Monolith, is based on a Japanese TV character portrayed by Ken Shimura. The game has no English mode, so are we missing out on anything interesting?
We're going through the Neo Geo collection, with footage from real hardware, not emulators. Check out top games to play on the Neo Geo console, Neo Geo Mini, Neo Geo MVSX hack, or Neo Geo MVS cabinet.
#neogeo #mvs #snk
This was about a hundred times more interesting than what I was led to believe.
Agreed =D
*the arrows hit the onlookers*
Me: Hmm, I'm not sure I understand why this is such a cultural touchstone.
*the bird shits directly in the guy's face*
Me: Ah, now I understand.
This thumbnail cracked me up 😂. Man, I had no idea there was a NEO GEO mahjong controller. That's amazingly ridiculous. Great video, Alec. Hope you and your family are doing well 🖖🏼
Hey, thanks for watching. I aim to educate. Right back at ya!
This channel is brilliant! Great writing, research and humor.
Came for the warning. Stayed for batshit japanese tv.
I think you mean birdshit.
I had the AES and my brother still has an MVS… No idea that controller exists. I am surprised after watching so many retro gaming videos for the last 14 years I can still learn something new. Thank you, I love your channel’s content.
I can't believe you made a mahjong game review interesting. The researched context made this a treat to watch
Have you watched the NGH-027 video? If you do, please let me know what you think of it.
But I will watch, even if I CANT play Mahjong
Just wanted to say how much I appreciate this whole channel. Nice work.
SNK was at least trying to make those mahjong sims stand out on the sea of crappy arcade mahjong sims, and heck are there a lot of them.
SNK makes everything with love
Very excited to see Crossed Swords next time! Thanks for the videos!
I learn so much from this channel.
Great video, great background sourcing.
This was a great episode. Loving getting to learn about these super obscure Neo titles.
Come for Neo-Geo games, stay for the Japanese pop culture history lessons.
I’m so bummed I didn’t learn about this comedian until after his death
Same here. :(
Lame ass video...I love it! lol I love how you put "DON'T WATCH THIS VIDEO" in the thumbnail. That being said, I finally acquired my very own Neo Geo AES after 30 years or so of wanting one! The stars finally aligned and I was able to get it with SamSho 2. Cheers!
Congratulation! With SamSho2 is the best way to get one!!
These are my favorite UA-cam videos! When’s the next NGH?
This one has less than 5K views. Seems like UA-cam doesn't care.
Yes indeed Mahjong games are boring as hell, even on Neo Geo... Can't wait the next episode!
Wow... in Japan Mahjong must have been extremely popular... my Dad played it; and he’s American.
I look forward to your review of Crossed Swords when that gets released. It was (before Fatal Fury and even King of The Monsters... yes) considered a killer app for the system as it did get quite a bit of promotion past the launch of the system.
I'm honestly quite glad to learn more about the mahjong games. All 3 you've reviewed so far at least have an interesting gimmick to them and the peripheral learning about a Japanese show and celebrity is also very cool.
But where’s the fighting? I’m so confused 😂
Lee Trevino's Fighting Mahjong!
I've been drinking for 7 hours and then I thought... I need some basement brothers
Ghost boobs _and_ mahjong? This game has everything! They should have called it Yuurei Oppai Manyuki.
Great video and review. Never heard of this comedian before, was fun to learn all about him and his impact.
The graphics when Bakatonosama walks about are very good.
I see thumbnail image 👀
Decides to watch anyway because I see it as a challenge 🤔
I play Japanese mahjong, I’ll watch this video and you can’t stop me!
Damn it. Well, I guess a few people watching won't hurt anything...
I wanna learn to play mahjong. Any suggestions?? They’d be greatly appreciated. Maybe a steam pc title that is ultra noob friendly?
I love Riichi Mahjong, I love NeoGeo, and I love your channel... All is perfect!
Bakatona sama is in Nioh 2. Ah ha. Kidding. But there is a character boss who looks like him. It is a traditional look as you know.
Making a game about Mahjong interesting to me. Thank you! This channel is great.
That comedy is excellent. I never heard about this
I remember years ago seeing this game at an import store in NYC growing up Alec. At the time, I really had no idea what to make of it. I mean I was like in total disbelief. But at the same time, I wanted to add this into my collection. 8^)
Eventually I did and never bothered playing it due to being in Japanese. But after seeing this video, I've gained knowledge that the light dawns on me regarding it. Thank you Alec. 8^)
Your video was posted onto the Neo-Geo thread by one of our members on AtariAge for others to take notice and to help with additional exposure bro. Thank you for sharing this with us and now I truly learned more about this Mahjong game than ever before. 8^)
Anthony...
I never tough that I could watch a mahjong video before! Very interesting indeed! Thank you very much Sir!
Best Mahjong Review I ever had the pleasure to watch!
Blinding liking because this is labeled as a Majohg game
Crossed Swords is a classic.
The popularity of tiddy mahjong games in Japanese arcades will always baffle me.
Wow, not sure how you did it, but you made a Mahjong video game video really interesting! Nice stuff dude!
This has to be the most interesting Mahjong game review ever made.😉
I quite like that slight bobblehead art style in video game graphics, JJ & Jeff, Wayne's World, that arcade game about the band Journey heh. Just enough pixel resolution to get distinct details and recognizable faces.
People outside Japan seem baffled by board games mixed with nudity, but I think I would play more Chess if it had intermissions featuring naked women.😄
Glad you enjoyed it. Have you see our NGH-027 Minasan no Okagesama Desu video? it's similar to this one.
I love Mahjong!
I can't wait to see NGH-037!
It's currently in the editing phase.
Joke's on you, I love Mahjong
Hahahahaha love the title!
How do you rip music from neogeo games
I had no idea there were newd neo-geo games nor the existence of a mahjong controller.
Japanese tv is hilarious
Bakatonosama also cameos in Kato and Ken in one of the secret rooms when playing as Kato. I think it was in world 1-2...
Cuz the secret rooms were basically skits featuring Kato and Ken's characters with dialogue written in the same style as Gokigen TV and everything.
I don't know. This is probably the most interesting looking Mahjong game I've ever seen but I still don't want to play it.
On the Neo, I feel that Quest of Jongmaster and Final Romance 2 are much more interesting than Bakatonosama. Bakatonosama is tied with Minasan no Okagesama desu for least interesting.
@@BasementBrothers There's MORE? What the hell man!
Good to know this has been educational.
Dude or dudes I can't get enough of your videos, fookin amazing shib.
These are always so informative, even if the game itself seems uninteresting at first glance. Crossed Swords is a personal favorite, looking forward to it!
Best game ever made.
Don't tell me what to do
How much do those cotnrollers go for these days? I just want one for the sake of having one lol
It's hard to say. They don't come up for sale much. I can't remember them ever being cheap. But several hundreds for dollars for sure.
@@BasementBrothers Ah gotcha. Guess if one sees it at a decently cheap price on Y!AJ, should just grab it.
I like Riichi Mahjong, I used to play it a few years ago
Just the coverage of Japanese comedy stuff is enough for me! Though I'd be interested in knowing where I can get these shows from :D
Thanks!
UA-cam is your best bet.
Never expected Mahjong here.
I love to play Richi Mahjong so much.
Seeing 2 player Mahjong feels rigged.
This is the third mahjong game we've covered in this video series. You may want to check out the other two videos.
This game is hilariously rigged. I tried this one since I love Mahjong and I had an emulator handheld I wanted to use. First I was surprised by the nudity, but then by how rigged the game is. The game sets both you and your opponent with either junk hands or incredible one-in-a-million hands... but generally for the opponent. You can also be waiting for a tile that is highly likely to appear, but it never does. I had to throw out all my Mahjong fundamentals out the window, as it felt like the game was what decided if you should win or lose. They really wanted you to buy those items, but since losing takes away points, and those are used as currency, you rarely will have a chance. I haven't tried other Mahjong games to see if they also work in the same way, but I was definitely not impressed by this one (at least not for the right reasons).
Guess every arcade mahjong sim is like that, considering they're made to eat quarters.
Mate I LOVE this series. You do a fantastic job. I have watched from Sydney Australia from the beginning and will watch until the end. I don't know if there is multiple of you, "basement brothers" or if you have some brothers and make these yourself but, thank Jesus Christ himself for this series as I'm sure he watches it.
Hi and thank you for such high praise. It's Mr. Jakes and me creating videos now. Sturat is also listed as part of Basement Brothers, but he has taken a minor behind the scenes role. I host Neo Geo Generation, but you will find other gaming videos on our channel hosted by Mr. Jakes.

@@BasementBrothers I think some of the confusion is because you have similar-sounding voices and the same idiosyncratic pronunciation of certain words like "linear".
Your name rings to me. Used to be in the basement in the 90's. Only difference was we were copying mad games. Dont worry I haven't been a pirate in forever.
As always, this was very informative and fun! Just a side note: I can't understand how the same country that always produced brilliant comedy in written form (take artists like Rumiko Takahashi, Koshi Rikudo and so on) seems unable to produce anything but utter crap when it comes to standup and TV comedy.

Hear me out…. Homebrew a neo geo music maker that turns the neo geo mahjong controller into a drum machine hit pad. Why? I dunno. One more thing to use it for.
