Hi my name is Carl Jacobson,
I started woodworking with my grandfather as a young boy. I continued woodworking through high school, and started woodturning after seeing a turned project in a friends shop. Shortly after UA-cam started, I was looking for a howto video for duck calls, with no results I decided to make my own video. Some of my fondest memories are working with my grandfather in his wood shop. Being able to share our passion for woodworking, ties it all together. - Навчання та стиль

Man, what a gorgeous piece of wood, that spalting looks cool and the high gloss really makes the opal stand out. It was great to finally meet you and Robin in person. You were both just as awesome as I expected you to be. I'll make sure to leave the antsy kid at home next time I come out so I have some more time to chat.

Very nice. I like the color and design. Very pretty. Thanks for sharing. Rod Humphrey is doing something similar, but his designs are on the bottom of a bowl.
I just discovered you and am an instant fan.
That vase is Beautimous!!!!

Beautiful vase Carl, love the inlay and epoxy finish, the shape ain't too bad either!!!
Great video mate.

Mike
Thank you buddy :)
Terrific job Carl. It would look nice on display with one of the little battery powered tea lights. Great idea.....Bob
You still impress!
Thank you buddy!!
It's Wonderful superb
Thank you!
Very nice work Carl, you have a great light and skillful touch in using the tools. A lot of turners look like they're double fisting the grip and while it gets the job done, you definitely have great technique. Fun to watch and learn.
Thank you very much!
Lovely finish! I'm totally with you on the rarely used gloss finish but I think you went for the right choice there bud! Striking! :)
nice!
Niiiiice!!!!
Thank you buddy
Nice piece Carl it gives it a very uniqueness lol if that's a word
Looks great. Thanks for the shout-out, drop by the wind farm anytime!!
Noice!
That turned out great Carl! Just a note, check the beginning of the video as the sponsors that you mention did not show up on the screen, at least on my computer.
Beautiful piece Carl! Can you please provide a link to the device that goes in the tool rest that you screw your chuck in at 3:09? I want to do some carving to a wide rim bowl and that would be perfect. -Ed
Awesome! Why don't you trim down blanks with band saw? New to woodturning, I've noticed a lot of people do. Thanks!!
Did you leave the lathe turning slow for the duration of the resin to cure as it might run? I am trying to find a rapid set resin here in Christchurch New Zealand but no luck AT ALL.
I am not sure if I am not more impressed with your vision than your turning skills (not that there is anything wrong with them). Very cool. I notice your used thick CA as your medium for the sparkles. Any reason you didn’t us epoxy? I have used CA for small cracks but not for something as large as this.
Looks amazing Carl..do you throw the brushes away after you brush the epoxy? Can you wash them?I noticed it was quite thick too. Did you need to have lathe running on slow speed so you dont get drips forming?
Very nice Carl the wife loved it as well!! Why didn't you just use the saw instead of drilling so many holes?? I've never tried it and that's why I ask
Enjoyed and gave a Thumbs Up also
Hi Carl, amazing piece. After you brushed the epoxy on did you spin it on the lathe until it cured or did it cure evenly without doing that? Thanks, Sue
Carl as usual nice work and video. I asked once before, but lost the reply, therefore can you please tell where the carving jig you use in the banjo to hold the piece while you care on it can be procured? Thanks. Cheers, Tom
Thank you Tom! Here's the link for the carving jig, trentboschtools.com/
When you use it you might want to add it to you notes. Thanks. I always enjoy your videos and always learn something new. Cheers, Tom.
Hey Carl. I'm getting into things like milliput, and inlay. Sorry for the odd question, but the dremel you're using is Air Saw and Air Dremel. I have a regular Dremel.
Can I use the regular Dremel, or do I need to buy the 2 Dremels that you are using. Are these the best tool for putting inlay and inlace on regular bowls. etc.
Sorry - with all my woodturning years, I've never tried this, and I'm expanding my skills. Thanks. Your videos are great.
Thank you Janice! An electric Dremel will work just fine, no need to upgrade to a air one.
Could you do another collaboration with Peter Brown? I liked it when you turned the murder bowl.
I'll see what I can do :)
What is the inlay made of? It's a beautiful piece!!!
Thank you Jackie! It's Crystal Calcite, and Paua Abalone
@@CarlJacobson beautiful work!!!
It seemed like you put the epoxy on heavy, but then you evened it out. Was that all you had to do, or was there more sanding on it? TIA.
What epoxy resin was it you were using?
Beautiful. It would be great for fake flowers.
Thank you!
Hi is that real opal you're using for the inlay? I have some Lightning Ridge Australian Black Opal pieces I want to use in the same way but I'm not sure if I should or not.
This is Man-made Betty, but real Opal should work the same way.
U need to talk to Tim Yoder about his hollowing set up he sells
Ya that's a sweet jig!
🧡💯😎👍👍🍺
