This crowd was the result of street racers who illegally blocked the intersection at 9th & Pacific on Sat Jan 23rd, to take turns spinning donuts. A video that has since mysteriously vanished from numerous social media platforms.

Wow this is crazy. When the video first aired they were doing crazy donuts and totally surrounding his car and now its completely different video.
Burnouts are not street racing. In Tacoma this was merely reckless driving.
This all happened over a moving violation... or a few I guess.
Officer clearly had backup nearby and a safe egress to the rear. Multiple angles contradict the officer.
Any excuse. The fact that at this point the government isn’t using lethal force to put these riots to a stop, means that we have a government that can’t tie its own shoes without a video tutorial.
And KING5 is complicit in the Violence last night for showing a "Selectively Edited" portion of the video.
It's even more clear after watching this Video. Continued Violence is what they want... It's good for their "Ratings"

Seattle and Portland local and state authorities have set the standard for this kind of behavior and it's bound to spread to surrounding communities. King 5's biased reporting is part of the problem.
This is Tacoma not Seattle or Portland. Do you mean Tacoma is setting the standard? How would the reporting have been less biasd? If it showed the rioters a few minutes before the incident blocking the police SUV and agitating the officer? Or if they pleaded to listeners to "hold police accountable"?
They forgot to mention that the cop car was surrounded and people were hitting the cop car and that's when the cops accelerated out of there.

Once you DESIGNATE an area for this, every challenge in town shows up-from street cars, to mail trucks, to rideing lawn mowers, to Harleys. But give them their free space.
They will not be happy until all the police retire or resign, and Tacoma turns into a robbery and rape fest like Seattle. I used to street race when I was a kid. The difference was we would leave when the cops show up, not surround their vehicle. Do you want law and order, or do you want to let the city turn into a burning pile of anarchy? Since when is it ok to impede a police vehicle by surrounding it? If I were in the Tacoma police, I would call a general strike and let that weak mayor deal with it until I got some support for doing a dangerous job.

IMO this officer LET himself be surrounded. He knew there was a crowd and they were unruly and breaking laws, he approached them with his vehicle and then stopped while they surrounded him. He should have seen that coming 100ft away, long before he was close enough to get surrounded. Call for backup, you can't pull crowd control by yourself with an SUV else you'll get scared for your life...
Agreed. But I will say though, it would take a few minutes for backup to arive and by then his windows might have been knocked out and the cop would have been attacked. I agree with you though, he shouldnt have gotten himself in that position. He made a mistake and probably regrets it.
His window got broke as a result of the vehicular assault.
And backup was literally a block behind him. If there was a crowd behind him they'd release the dash cam.

Create laws that would have the vehicles involved confiscated, and the drivers prosecuted.
There are hundreds of videos to trace them with. It will make it less fun when they lose their toys and are behind bars.
Look into SOAR ordinances. Laws as you describe are already on the books.
In fact you can have all that happen just for driving through SOAR areas as a normal person who has nothing to do with the races.
So yeah, good idea. But those laws have been on the books since the first fast n furious, so just about 20 years after the fact.

We have an old airport for street car drags. Third of all I would erect a pillar of some sort in the center of that intersection to take the choice out of it. Big enough to drive around but no horse play.
