    I enjoy your videos so much. I recently bought a Dwarf Cavendish from Lowe’s and it is small but getting lots of new leaves. I’m excited about your bananas getting ripe. I always look forward to seeing your next video.

    Cool stuff! I bet you could just use a white poly sand bag also. They are a little breathable but pretty sealed and the white color is perfect to reflect some but not all of the sun.

    awesome, thank you. I couldn't understand what type of banana you said for each one that you're pointing out here, especially the one after the tallest one. The first one was a dwarf namwah, the second one was too tall, and the third one you recommend but I can't make out the name you said. Would you mind mentioning here again? 😃

    Instead of cutting the ones that haven't fruited yet, can you build a heated green house for them to survive the winter?

      I did this last year. Worked really well. Might do it again, but was a lot of effort. Still considering options

    Will dwarf cavendish banana grow outdoors zone 8b?
    Also could you tell me other edible banana varieties for zone 8b?

    Nice update. Im going to get some of these bags now :) I’m really hoping you get ripened bananas man. My VC still is pushing out massive leaves and is taller than my Tall Namwah!, No sign of a flower yet. Winter storing will be interesting with this one - you have plans yet for it?

    • @georgiafarmingwithfluevog
      @georgiafarmingwithfluevog  Рік тому +2

      Yeah I’m thinking neither of us got a VC haha. Bags were definitely a good find and good price too. For winter, I’m thinking chicken wire cage around the base and pack with some leaves or pinestraw or something. Not sure I want to go full on greenhouse again. That was so much work.

      @@georgiafarmingwithfluevog depending on what the banana truly is will really change how it handles winter. A true VC is not that hardy from what I’ve read (no real experience yet myself)…I plan on digging up some of the pups I have on mine. One is 5 ft tall and I can pot it up for early planting next spring. The main trunk I might store bare root under my house and another VC of same size (14-15ft and 8+ ft pseudostem) I might store bare root in the garage.
      Good news about VC is the fruit is very obvious in its egg shaped bananas. So if we get something other than a true VC I’m probably going to share with Wellsprings so they can check into it. They source from Agristarts from what I’ve heard. Who knows…

    • @georgiafarmingwithfluevog
      @georgiafarmingwithfluevog  Рік тому +1

      @@garrettenglish6094 bare roots is a good idea, i might do that, especially since i just planted this year. How do you plan to dig yours up? Just brute force and spray off the roots with water?

    • @garrettenglish6094
      @garrettenglish6094 Рік тому

      @@georgiafarmingwithfluevog I would just sever the roots a few inches past the corm and lean it until I can completely detach from soil then clean off, dry for a day or two. Then either stack horizontally under house or prop vertically or at a leaning angle in garage with base in a rubber made tub or similar. I’ve got around 20 different banana varieties and no telling how many total plants so they get split between under house and garage and TC babies and 2-4 ft pups can stay in small pots in garage under grow lights.
      But the thing is people report true VC not handling cool temps well. Not sure if that means winterization/dormancy or actual outdoor exposure to near freezing temps. I have no experience yet with this banana from wellsprings other than I grew it last fall through winter up to a 3 gallon pot inside and planted it out in late April. It did fine all winter…but that was it actively growing under lights…not sitting in a dark corner or under the house. So we’ll see. I have two mats of the wellsprings VC. Each one has 3 bananas on it so I’ve got 6 in all. Hopefully I don’t lose all 6…

      Not too worried about $5 a bag, but would probably work. These are UV resistant and a pretty big diameter. Don’t want to risk anything on a bunch since I’ve worked so hard to get to this point

    complete nonsense, in the wild no one packs them. People try to tame them, feed them with fertilizers that are not in the real life of Bananas. I also have a banana that I only water when it hasn't rained for weeks.

      when you click on the link he provides you get to read about the advantages of using a bag in some cases, which of course you do not have to use a bag but I'm going to try to get a heftier bunch and also help protect from these urban critters I'm fighting. Nice of you to be open minded with people who don't live where or how you happen to, thanks.

    Why not just build a simple greenhouse attached to the south wall of your house? Then you can grow year round there. If you buy some 10 ft long x 3/4" galvenized square tubing, it easily bends to make curved beams that you just bolt together to make a frame which you can then cover with twin wall polycarbonate or greenhouse plastic. Are you on Instagram? I can message or email you some pics how I built mine if you like. I'm in growing zone 6A and am growing Bananas and citrus year round.
