- There’s something about the pure joy of a carousel ride that leaves an impression on you. But these handcrafted pieces of kinetic art are becoming more rare. Dan Jones and Art Ritchie have been building wooden carousels by hand for 30 years though their company, Carousel Works. Based in Ohio, their works of public art can be enjoyed throughout the world. Here’s how they make it all happen.

I just love carousels! Whenever I go to an amusement park with one, it's the first and last ride I go on. I also don't go on just any horse. I choose the prettiest horse and I don't go for the tigers, rabbits, or carriage, it has to be a horse. There's just a lot of fond memories of when I was really small and my dad had to hold me up on the horses sometimes.
What's up with the sarcastic and negative comments on this video? Seriously folks? They do beautiful work and deserve appreciation.
In highschool I did my senior project studying the history of carousels, and was lucky to find a carousel museum near me. And for the project I restored an old fashioned hobby horse that had been broken. (A plastic horse suspended on springs for kids to ride.) It would be a dream come true to visit real carousel craftsmen!

"We have carousels all over the world"
*names only US places*
They DO in fact have carousels in many places around the world, as well as on at least three cruise ships. Just because they only named locations in the US doesn't mean that it's not true.
LARSFSO he only named a few
@@anthonyferretiz3920 Okay, thanks for bringing me back to a three year old comment. And it still makes no sense to say that they have carousels all over the world for then to *immediately* only list US places.
So those people are the ONLY people that crafted carousels?
The only ones who still are. The other carousels are probably factory made.
There used to be more companies that worked on carousels. They've gone the way of so many other craftspeople, replaced by machines, plastic and mass production.
No, American Carousel Works, WoodDesign and Carousel and Carvings.
