    When I lived in Vietnam, there was a woman next to the school I was teaching in who made this. I ate it every morning. EVERY MORNING.

    This is so similar to the Chinese steamed sticky rice, which I love but rarely make at home because it takes so much preparation and time. Your version is so much easier and has encouraged me to make this dish more often.
    Looks delicious! Thank you for your lovely recipes and easy-to-follow instructions. You sound so calm that it's easy to give your dishes a try. xx

    I really appreciate that you cook not only good dishes but you present those dishes very well. A lot of people...even chefs that open up Asian restaurants I've seen last number of years come and go because the food may taste good but the presentation is so unappealing that it's hard to want to eat it.

    Growing up in Saigon, the way I usually eat this dish is to simply steam the chinese sausage, then slice it and put everything the way it is (skip the stir fry part) onto the cooked sticky rice. If i like it more salty then i'll add soy sauce when I eat. We also have patê as one of the toppings! I miss this so much T-T

    • @lilwendy92
      @lilwendy92 9 років тому

      I dont recall having the dry shrimp on my sticky rice. But the recipe changes depending on which part of Vietnam you're from, and your own taste of course

    That look like a really really salty dish. The asian meatloaf and the Chinese sausage are already salty but you added more salt to it plus you also added salt and soy sauce to the rice. I want to taste it though.

    • @annaluu6018
      @annaluu6018 9 років тому +18

      It's not at all salty, the Chinese sausage is actually sweet, the portion she used is a nice balance for Vietnamese food. I think they soy she used in cooking the rice is the color one which is not as salty, but I would skip that step...that's the only thing I don't like in the recipe

    • @mianlien911

    Lot of sugar. As it is Chinese sausage is super sweet, on top of that you add spoonful's of sugar in seasoning. I guess you are making some kind of a semi dessert with rice.

    This recipe is not true to original. Aren't you supposed to steam the dried shrimps with the rice? I wouldn't cook the vietnamese ham (cha lua) because it will get slimy. The ham is supposed to be eaten at room temperature.

    • @zagabi6177
      @zagabi6177 9 років тому

      ....Fried Cha is a common side dish in Vietnam. If your cha gets slimy you have spoiled cha

    • @TinNguyen-rx3mf
      @TinNguyen-rx3mf 9 років тому

      Fried Cha is cha chien.. that's different from cha lua.. Cha lua is meant to be eaten cold/room temp. People don't fried cha lua man....

    • @zagabi6177
      @zagabi6177 9 років тому

      Tin Nguyen I'm not talking about Cha Chien, which is fried from the start. Many Vietnamese people pan-fry Cha Lua with fish sauce to eat with rice as part of a daily meal. There are many ways to do it too, you can either chop it up into strips and serve it over xoi like Helen does here, or leave it in bigger chunks and let it brown and caramelize with fish sauce in the pan. It may all be regional differences.
