In the past, animal manures were considered waste, and dealing with manure was not considered all that important and more a nuisance activity as part of raising livestock. Today, with increasing regulatory pressures, larger livestock operations, and in many cases concentrating operations in certain parts of the country, addressing manure management and other resource concerns from animal feeding operations have become major issues that need to be adequately addressed. There are many options available for landowners to choose for addressing manure issues ranging from traditional waste storage structures to innovative manure management treatment systems. The focus of this webinar is to help landowners and planners address the following questions:
-What can be done to address the landowner’s objectives?
-How will the manure be handled?
-What impacts does the operation have on air and water quality?
-Are there other uses for the manure?
-What can be done when not enough land is available for land application?
-What is the fate of the nutrients with the application chosen?
