Totally amazing how the truck takes the mountain roads almost effortlessly, despite pulling a heavy fifth wheel. Diesel pickups would have been "sweating it" a bit on those long uphill grades. This is the way to haul a fifth wheel. No more worries about adequate power and braking. These trucks do it with ease and grace and won't be worn out after 50,000 miles.
Yes, we were traveling through the Rocky Mountains. We like to convert the Volvos vs other rigs as they have the most spacious cab interiors, they have the quietest interiors, and are one of the safest builders on the road.
Wow, beautiful truck! To haul or not to haul? Smart car that is. I know this has the shortened frame. Depending on winter or summer, we like to haul golf carts, side-by-sides, or maybe a smart car. To date we always had to haul them separately. That is one sweet looking and sounding truck though!!!
Tried an i-shift today. So great. But don't forget to use engine break on highways or in moutain. It works like it shift for you, not like an automatic transmission: it feels like you shift yourself, but more efficiently. Can go from 3rd to 6th by itself as an exemple, if it feels that it's ok to do so. Wondering how many money you need to get that option on a Volvo. but it's so great! Even more when you're caught in heavy traffic. This thing is future!
love this video how you really show the features of the autoshift, i just purchased a 08 vnl with a eaton fuller ultrashift it wont have hill hold or N coast mode but have you driven them? how are they different ?mine will be a 13speed version ,are the volvo auto shifts just better in every way in your book? just looking for your unbiased opinion ok thanks
Ok, you've basically got me sold on the RV hauler concept. There are plenty of pictures that show the seat belts on the dinette, but I haven't been able to find ANY discussion on how comfortable it is back there for a passenger. All of the HDT evangelists talk about how the triple air ride makes them the most comfortable ride for the driver, but I'm very curious about the comfort of the kids on the rigid mounted foam seats (effective double air ride still - chassis and cab, but non-air-ride seat). What I really want to know is how comfortable/safe it would be to mount a passenger car seat with isofix compatibility. will it be super rough and potentially damaging to the kid in the car seat, or just in the same category as the back seat of a 3500 dually, or ... ? I have seriously been unable to find ANY discussion on the actual comfort of the dinette when under driving conditions. I figured this was as good a place as any to ask, since you actually have kids in the back in the video. THANKS!
+Steve Lopez These units ride better than a pickup. Even bob-tailed ( no trailer or load on the RVHauler ) they ride fantastic. People that take their first test drive with me are always pleasantly surprised. I will always point out that this is not a Cadillac equivalent ride and experience. However, most folks appreciate that these are made to be driven 10+ hours a day, every day. I would suggest when you are next going past your local Volvo dealer, go speak to the used Volvo manager or sales person, and ask for a ride!
Also if I was to put the engine brakes in A (automatic)mode and press up on the button , Do you think it would hold just fine going down that grade of mountain the same ?
Superb video,Smiling happy to know that automatics are the way to efficiency!
One of my top videos! From 7.00 or so rhe scenery was amazing. Thank you for recording and sharing. Cheers from the netherlands.
What a brilliant place you guys travel and live in! Makes me want to come and visit Canada sooner rather than later....
+Joe Hupp us Canadians would love to have you visit. You are invited!

20,000 pounds for a semi as powerful as that Volvo is nothing lmao. These trucks can handle a lot more than that
Empty semi trailers are north of 10k

The Volvo i-shift is standard on the newer trucks
Random Black Guy has been standard for a long time in europe. Saves tons of fuel.
Right on !
Thanks very helpful tips.

I bet pulling a RV with a Volvo XE powertrain would be really nice.... Much quieter inside with the lower RPM powerband
Was that the Rockies with vies like that? Why only a Volvo and not other rigs? Keep bringing more views like that!
Looks like golden going towards banff
Good Eye - that is exactly the road! This was recorded while driving from Banff towards Golden BC.
What is eco rolll
what was your gross in this video?
+kp123 the RVHauler weighs approx 20,000 lbs and the trailer and cargo was about 24,000 lbs.
What's the fuel mileage on d16
Hi Craig,
A properly tuned D16 with a fuel efficient rear end ratio in the range of 2.67 to 2.85 we get around 12 in the mountains.
