Surfers on the East side of O'ahu awoke to a massive 8.4ft 16s @NE 36 degree MAX Swell nuking the East Side of O'ahu. Word got out fast as familiar faces gathered to partake in a day of overhead fun.

Very nice, great surfing, amazing rights and even lefts. Think it was the summer of '70, Sandys was huge, like 25 foot Hawaiian and Charley Galanto had to swim to Haunama Bay for his board. I was surfing Portlock Point, what they now wall China Walls. It was perfect 12 to 15 Hawaiian, 20+ faces. Surfed it for 3 days. Two take off spots, one right next to the point, and one a bit wider for the better longer waves. Long long rides, first long wall lining up to the second long wall. I was young, dumb and invulnerable on a green 6"3' I made myself. Paul Strauch was out one day.

Always did enjoy scoring a big clean east side day on Kauai when I lived there long time ago. It was such a rare thing.
