You can continue to take the sound direct from your laptop, or you can take the sound from the 3.5mm jack on the converter. Using the HDMI output of your laptop does not stop the sound from being available at the 3.5mm jack.
Does a standard mini hdmi to vga adaptor carry sound with it? E.g. I have a laptop which I would like to output to an external monitor but still use the 3.5mm jack from the laptop to connect to a set of speakers
what if the converter doesnt work for an OLD vga monitor. OR does it work for all moniters for the ps3
Most HDMI outputs supply power which this converter utilises. The demonstration uses a laptop as an HDMI source but any HDMI source will work. There is clearly little point in using a converter where a VGA source already exists, this converter is for those instances where a VGA source does not exist and the only signal available is HDMI.
Is there a way in which i can use only the 3.5mm jack for audio without the VGA being connected? I need for audio monitoring on my camera which doesn't have a headphone jack

And think abt it, what's the point of having the converter if the laptop itself has a VGA output (at least most computers), the real application for this would be for smartphones, but if needs external power then it's useless :(

It works fine with Chromecast 2.

You should not need any additional power source as the PS4 will power this device from its HDMI output socket
Clear Vision Systems but PS4 uses low power hdmi port so it may requires power to maintain a stable connection.
Will it work on ps4 ?
It will work on PS4, but only up to 1080p. It doesn't work at 4k so it can't be used with a PS4 Pro at 4K.

doesnt work for me :(, by the way the input is vga and the output is hdmi but the "output" which is the hdmi is connected to my laptop and the "input" which is vga is connected to my monitor, it doesnt work help me
Sounds like you have the wrong device. You need a device which takes an HDMI input and converts it to VGA. The VGA output then connects to the monitor. If the VGA connection on your converter is marked 'input', than you do not have this device, you have a VGA to HDMI converter. I suggest that you contact your supplier to sort this out.
