Well I was wondering if I was one of the few with some hit and miss on the QC checks. I started writing a novel about the whole experience but here is the short version. First Firefly FFST CLASSIC MODEL ELECTRIC GUITARS (White Color) GWTD with a Floyd Rose. Everything so beautiful except: something wrong with the electronics for the middle pickup and the 2 tone controls. Position 3 on the switch, the volume can be barely heard for middle pickup. Tone knobs do not work at all. Firefly refunded me $30 for the pickup. I purchased another pickup and installed. Still the same. I left out all the troubleshooting I did but I now believe it is the 5 way switch but after a ton of hours, I have decided to just buy a quality loaded pick guard. Other than this issue, the guitar, at least to me appears premium top notch for the money but..... a very tiny little QC inspection plugging in the guitar to an amp would have shown this issue in 2-3 seconds for real. But in the end, i ponder if all the time spent troubleshooting it was worth it rather than to just have sent it back. (I missed the window to send it back :( ) Interestingly, in between the issue with this first Firefly, I had already ordered and now received a second Firefly FFST chameleon green guitar. This guitar is beyond worth the price of the actual guitar. It looks and plays just as good as some of my $600 to $900+ guitars. It did need new strings and a complete setup. Depending on taste, might could use an upgrade on pickups. Bottom line: I was going to upgrade some parts on the first FFST but I did not expect to do it out of the box. 1 out of 2 guitars being faulty is not another chance I will take unless I am knowing ahead of time I am purchasing to upgrade immediately. I should add that Firefly did offer to compensate for the issue so their after purchase service appears fair but if the compensation turns out not to be what the real issue is, you are a bit of a loss. I do see that if you are buying the guitar and well know you want to do upgrades, the 2 Firefly guitars I have are seriously outstanding for a base and might be a challenge from any company to beat? So sorry for your experience with the cracked body.
I have heard some things here and there..... And I do keep in mind it is a 250.00 dollar or lower priced guitar. I did a review on the FFLP access cut guitar they made..... 100% great made and playing guitar.. But the pickups were just dark sounding and muddy ...But still with a set of 200.00 dollar pickups your still way under an Epiphone.... and it out play's any 800.00 Epiphone I have ever played. So all good ... I CAN DEAL WITH THAT.. But I have heard from people that help me here on YT they have had some problems with their last few guitars from FF... and a few here and there in the chat / comment area. when you start getting into the 190.00 to 250 area of price... You start seeing Jackson.... Squire .... S by Solar.... Firefly has hit the 250.00 mark with a few of their last models.... That opens up a new ball game ....Jackson has just been killing it with their JS line of guitars... and resale is better due to the name.\ If name bands want to ..... They can make a better guitar at a better price point than Firefly... Firefly can't order the number of guitars that a name brand like Jackson can. It comes down to the mark Jackson and other companies want to make. If they wanted to they could.... We are seeing them jump into this Budget Mark Guitar Price point.... But what are you getting from them ????? better ??? We may end up doing a Jackson very soon on the channel... and see if Firefly is the better guitar at the 200.00 to 250 mark.
@@DominionFretWorks I had a JS22, the natural wood model, and it was great (I managed to get it new for $160). I did replace the tuners with hipshot locking tuners, but I did not have to do that for it to be perfectly playable.
@@TheZeke1970 Ya.... I just ordered a JS line Jacson for review ! 269.00 it is one of their high-end JS Fix tail bridge models. well it's on the higher price mark JS with a fix tail. FWIW I purchased 2 of the prior release of the Madcat. The 1st one looked amazing, but was unplayable out of the box as it needed neck relief and major fretwork. The 2nd felt and sounded like a toy and was returned. The difference between those two Madcats was concerning. Again, those were from the previous release, not the current listings. I also returned 2 FFSTs last month due to the poor locking tremolo performance, one of those two also had a poor neck pocket and both needed fret leveling. Again, the finish on both were amazing but unplayable out of the box if/when using the trems and fret buzz. Even though those locking trem guitars were essentially unplayable as is, Firefly would not cover the return shipping ($27 each). They did offer one $20 coupon code for a future purchase. I used that code last week and purchased the White FFST Classic single pickup with locking trem. I knew going in that I'd have to do some "MusicNGear" work to get the trem playable, but the guitar looks and feels great. And last, I've noticed the recent Fireflys that come in the rectangular shipping box seem to be higher quality than those recently shipped in the older angled style box. Thanks again for all you do for us
Ya.... I have done more Firefly Guitars than any other brand.. We have had 4 Volgoa's.... I think 4 Leo Jaymz... 2 Ibanez... 1 West Creek... maybe 8 or 9 Firefly's ??? Kramer... Peavey....Harley Benton.... We have hit a few brands. I have looked around a little and Jackson has a few guitars under the 250 price.... Same as Squire.. Kramer also has a few models.. S by Solar has a few models.. If you look their is a lot of models in the 250 to 300 dollar market... If I can get a guitar for 260.00 275.00 and just do a little setup work on it... Action / truss rod adjustment..... and just have a STOCK guitar... that is good... I thinking maybe that is better. A firefly is 180.00 plus shipping So you're in the 210 to 220 price point... If you install tuners you're already in the 250 to 275 price point. And if you change the pickups 350 to 400 price point. Dunno Just a thought...
It will be great to see your reviews on the slightly higher priced guitars. I recently checked out a Jackson JS32T based on another youtube channel's review and was really disappointed...in the guitar and that review. The reviewer hyped it up as something like "all you really need". The neck was excellent, the rest of the guitar quality was way below what you get with a Firefly.
What a shame! I realize things like this do sometimes happen though. I’ve really been loving my FFTL with the blue/green flamed maple veneer. I’ve been debating whether to get the FFTC as well.
FFTC in the trans red..... The grain of the would will sometimes not align with the neck of the guitar.... My first one was the Trans Red color... It had this problem and have heard from 4 or 5 other people that said the same thing. So, I ordered the White/Cream one.... At this time, it is the best guitar from Firefly that just hit's the mark... It's a classic guitar design done VERY WELL ! and the stock P-90's are not bad. I am doing a UPGRADE video group on the FFDC /FFTC so go to the channel and check it out.
Have you started the mods on the Super FFST Blue Burst? So far I replaced the locking nut with a Gotoh and installed a Gotoh string retainer bar. I ordered a Gotoh locking tremolo that should be here next week.
It going to be some time for me.... I still have the Firefly FFDC / FFTC in the shop ... I think we are on Video 3 or 4 next... Its Tuner Keys bridge and pickup install on the next video... I also started a pedal review group that I need to get back too... and have two amps that need some review and chat time. I have a group of video on the Firefly FFMN.. we did a group of video just taking the stock guitar and making as good as we could.... Check that out. and We did a group of video's fixing the FR bridge and getting the lock nut set right for the first fretted note. There is a lot of info on this channel that can help you... Most of my reworks have fret leveling how too's.... and FR bridge how too's. Watch them all... I touch base on different stuff in each video. My problem is time... This is a small channel .. and it is just me doing the work... the recording... the editing... then the behind-the-scenes stuff.. selling the guitars... E-mails... working on customer guitars... The channel right now really doesn't make money. So, I have to always keep product moving on other stuff. I started this channel due to the Other Channels I was seeing on UA-cam. I want to keep it real here and not have Vendors / UA-cam offsetting my view due to money.
Ok... 2 Great.. and 5 danaged ???? Or just QC problems ..... For me I want to hear from you guys.. What are you getting. I want to know due to doing reviews... If I start hearing problems... and start hearing the same problems.. I can look for it and check those things... Plus I can disclose more INFO about Firefly and what to look for... Is it a roll of the dice ? or is it just a lower QC and fit and finish Vs ... other brand.
@@DominionFretWorks ok here goes 1- Had wire that was not even soldered on. 2- had faulty selector switch 3- nut was not cut properly 4- acoustic that was just so bad I decided I would just live with it 5- all around setup needed I was compensated for problems but I really don't buy a guitar to work on. @@CKS64 Number 5 is ... Well .. I find this in even the sub 700.00 range. Guitar setups have been going south for sometime now... Seems they all do the same thing... .o7 12 low E and .06 high E... Intonation is sharp.... and relief is never set. But it is the same STOCK SPEC setup every time. Number 1 and 2 are Problems... This is where QC comes in ... Shipped with bad or mis-wired parts... Number 3 is the same as 5 This is a setup thing... They all cut the nut a little high... Out of maybe 40 guitar reviews so far only a hand full have had Spot on nut cuts... At the 250.00 and under price piont... setups ... I'll setup the guitar... Fine... Problems... Just make sure the guitar works... Bad pickups or switch's... JUST DOESN'T WORK. This shouldn't happen at any price point. I think for most ... They want a good base... Good neck and body.. They are buying to upgrade. But it still needs to work !
@@DominionFretWorks I buy quite a few guitars and I disagree about the setup issues being acceptable. And if you want to go as high as 700 dollars you are in Sire and PRS and Schecter territory and I find very few setup problems. Also a lot of Monoprice and Donner guitars under 300 are just fine.
@@CKS64 I have come to Expect it... I will need to setup the guitar. But I'm very picky.. It not that I accept it as good. Companies are just spending less and less on the back end ... The stores in some cases have started to do basic setups on every guitar before the hit the floor. My local music store does this... And Sweetwater does a basic check. Thanks for commenting and holding your ground ... There are others that read the comments and get info from every comment. Your point of view maybe be better than mine to the reader. Or Someone mistakenly takes a comment wrong as it is written. Open and honest chat is always better. I don't want anyone thinking its acceptable for companies to send products that are not right... My job is to point out what the guitar may need and most of the time the guitar needs a basic setup out of the box. This is just what I have found to be true from companies that direct ship products from there warehouse. Thanks CKS64 ! love the chats we have !
it's a handsome guitar but for the crack, so that's a bummer, but yeah, it's true if we want a beater ,& this was priced down dirt cheap ,it would make for a good beater....just glue up the crack. i saw a dude selling a guitar that was wrapped in a leather car seat that he gotten from a junk yard, & stitched it to the body with straps sorts like a leather wrapped steering wheel with the strips of lace . looked sorta dope... gave it that old beat up car look...
Ya... It went to a good home. He was just starting to play guitar again after setting it down for years. I'm glad I was able to get him a good playing guitar cheap...My loss his gain !! but in this case... It's all good he is going to start playing again ! It will get a lot of love !
I love ur channel and ur reviews. I think that you should review Jet guitars or other budget guitars. I dt say that Fiirefly are bad, but to see other horizons could be interesting too. ❤❤
We have reviewed Leo Jaymz . . . I think 3 models Grote . . . 3 or 4 models Volgoa . . 3 or 4 models WestCreek I think just 1 of those models NK Guitars... Dean... Kramer... Schecter... Ibanez... Yes, I have done a lot of Firefly guitars... Why so many.. Well, this company seems to be making good guitars at a very low price point. People are always asking about a Firefly Guitar review of this model or that model. The price point is good enough for this channel to buy ... do a review and then resale. The higher priced guitars we have done... Like the Ibanez AMH90... I loose 20 to 25% on... UA-cam or a sales link to products have to cover that loss. Right now, it is hard to do too many of these. I hope you understand ... sometimes the video just doesn't do well.... and it takes a lot of views to make 200.00 or 300.00 dollars on a video to cover the guitar. At this point I think my BEST video has made 55.00 dollars... and when I sold the guitar, I lost 50.00 dollars. Keeping the channel working like this is why the reviews are so open and honest... That is why the channel is not like the others. As far as Jet Guitars.... I have been asked a few times for a review on their products. I will start looking at their line up and find a guitar to review from them. It will still be sometime before it uploaded.... But I'll start looking and find something... What model are you thinking would be good ?
@@DominionFretWorks i think abt the JS400 . Its cheap . I would like to know ur opinion abt it. Do you sell the Firefly ffst classic , purple color .?
@@colhad9505 Getting ready to list that guitar for sale... I try to only have 4 guitars up for sale at a time... Just sold one so need to list another. As of right now this guitar is still here and ready to go to its new home.
I hate Firefly's customer service. Other than that, the wood is really good, the body cut is very comfortable, it's light, but good wood is always luck of the draw territory. I Just gutted all the hardware, and it's one of the best tele's ever now. I just got rid of the so, so P90 and put a humbucker mini in it with a five way switch and a fat pole magnetic bridge pickup for now. It's a solid guitar once you replace the metals other than the frets or screws, it's really great after that! Not out of the box great, but that is the best thing about these guitars. CNC builds that work great. A real Luther will fit a guitar to your body, but that is not the case here of course. It just feels good out of the box, making it play well is another matter.
Ya ... we have done a few Firefly's here on the channel .... Doing a rework to make them great... But in this case with a cracked body... I was like nope. I wanted to build a cheap super tele. I'm watching Guitar Gardens for this model to come back in stock.. I will be Reordering one for that project. As far as there Customer Service... Ya they are a little on the slow side... But they always seem to take care of people from what I have heard. They have given me credits before .... They are just a little slow to get to ya from what I have seen. And they don't seem to want to hear about the guitars and making the next production better. They don't seem to want to hear what they need to do to fix design or part problems. If they just went another 40.00 on their price mark, they could fix just about everything I have heard problems with. 40.00 dollars on our end is 20 dollars on their end and that would make a big change on some of these models.
P.S. I kept the locking tuners too. They are fine, but... Giving it time, and this thing is worth making it better in every way. I will make this instrument great along the way. That is the game though. Thanks for your thoughtful analysis's of these rather good items that are worth some time and effort.
@@DominionFretWorks Correct! That guitar could be even better for folks who really need out of the box guitars. I don't know the economic dynamics of guitar manufacturing, but This is appealing to low end money buyers, and I like that. Not really complaining really. but they could do a mid range that is over the top if they want considering their price point out of China. I really don't know their maths. It's crazy to me.

Don't worry about the crack ... you have a video to cya with the video.
Check that out.
and
We did a group of video's fixing the FR bridge and getting the lock nut set right for the first fretted note.
Ok thanks. I watched the FFMN series and most other Firefly videos. I know editing is a time consuming pain in the neck.
Keep up the good work
Bought 7 this year only 2 did not have problems.
Ok... 2 Great..
and
5 danaged ????
Or just QC problems .....
For me I want to hear from you guys.. What are you getting. I want to know due to doing reviews... If I start hearing problems... and start hearing the same problems.. I can look for it and check those things... Plus I can disclose more INFO about Firefly and what to look for...
Is it a roll of the dice ? or is it just a lower QC and fit and finish Vs ... other brand.
@@DominionFretWorks ok here goes
1- Had wire that was not even soldered on.
2- had faulty selector switch
3- nut was not cut properly
4- acoustic that was just so bad I decided I would just live with it
5- all around setup needed
I was compensated for problems but I really don't buy a guitar to work on. Unless you tell me it has problems.
We have reviewed
Leo Jaymz . . . I think 3 models
Grote . . . 3 or 4 models
Volgoa . . 3 or 4 models
WestCreek I think just 1 of those models
NK Guitars...
Dean... Kramer... Schecter...
@@colhad9505
Getting ready to list that guitar for sale...
I try to only have 4 guitars up for sale at a time... Just sold one so need to list another.
As of right now this guitar is still here and ready to go to its new home.
I fear they have spoiled us in the past. Now we expect a lot from a $200 guitar.
I think you NAILED IT !!!!
You are spot on !
It's a shame that it was damaged... Cheers 🍻 🥃🥃 🎸 🎵🎶🎶
@@rofflestomp684 I think they could just Dominate the 250.00 to 300.00 dollar market...
If they made just a few changes.
