Oh my goodness! This is exactly what I'm doing right now, for my best friend! She found 63 embroidered panels her dear friend, who died several years ago, had hand embroidered. She asked me to make 7 quilt tops for her 7 granddaughters. What a challenge! but well worth the effort for my friend.
Yes it is!! 😁
God bless you 😁
God bless you as well! 😁
What a treat to have 7 granddaughters. You are so kind to create these memories for them all.
A beautiful quilt.i enjoy watching your tutorials.thanķ you. Janice from Pembrokeshire in the UK.
When a quilt becomes a family heirloom!
Better name for it!!! Yay!!
Someone's going to have tears of joy upon recieving this quilt 🥰
I have some blocks to put into a quilt from a friend, fter watching your show ,you have given me the energy to get busy and finish it. I am 94 and want to finish it NOW . Thank you !😊
Have fun! You will enjoy it I’m sure. It’s a fun one and goes together quickly.
Great job! I’m sure Mrs Hocutt would be so pleased to see her work exposed into this beautiful quilt that will be loved for the family for years. Thank you for sharing.
Oh my gosh, someone really spent quite a bit of time doing absolutely beautiful embroidery. I am glad that the folks are making this into a heirloom quilt. Hands down favorite block was the unfinished one, It is wonderful that they included it in the quilt. Love that it was quilted around the embroidery. Great video! Thank you.
I totally agree! Thanks
Very beautiful, and thank you for showing us. The family will treasure this quilt forever.
What a gem! This is so beautiful! And the backing fabric - it’s like the lady who did the embroidery designed it! Just perfect! Deb x 🤗
Great video Penny !!!! Really enjoy seeing something "old" turned into something that all the family can enjoy. ✌🏻♥️
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks!
Thank you for sharing. I inherited embroidery squares from my Aunt and had no idea what to do with them but hated to get rid of them. I will try this and I know she will be so proud .
Wonderful! Have fun with it. I’m sure they will be beautiful!!! Send pictures!!
So interesting to watch your whole process from beginning to end! Thank you for sharing 😍
Thanks for watching! Love your profile picture. I am a huge Peanuts fan!
I enjoyed your video very much. I ama 68 yrs. old and have been embroidering since I was 9. For the past 30 years, I have concentrated on crewel embroidery. I have done some quilting and enjoyed it, but not as much as embroidery. However, when my husband retired a few years ago, he took up quilting with a passion. To my surprise he did an excellent job. We have been thinking about combining our skills and making wall hangings with a crewel embroidered center, and a quilt of a compatible pattern surrounding it. Your video wasn't exactly what we are considering doing, but it was encouraging. Thank you so much.
Yes! Combine them. It would be beautiful!!
That's a lovely shade of green the family chose for the sashes. It makes the embroidered squares pop. Great work
Thanks!
I am so glad I found you! In a bag of fabric, and projects in various stages of completion, donated to my charity sewing group, I found several embroidered teacup blocks. All were embroidered with the maker's name. I have been looking for an idea to put them together...NOW I have one! Thank you so much for the inspiration.
Yay!!! I hope you have fun with it.
I love the binding explanation, especially the two inch piece used at the end to join the ends together
Wow! That was a lot of work Ms. Lois put into those squares. I've never pieced my backing before to put a label on. I usually turn under the edges of the label & sew it directly to the quilt back before hand quilting. I like how the 10th piece was the label. Awesome idea. 😊
I usually do that too but since I had a square she made this way seemed more appropriate for this project. 😁
I’ve been pondering all my moms embroidery and how to preserve her work. This is stunning and just the thing I’m going to try.❤ Thank you
Yay!!! Send pictures when you get it done. It will be beautiful I’m sure!
What a great project with the combo of craft skills! I can see this would also be a great up cycle of a vintage tablecloth.
Yes!!
Such a beautiful memory for the ones that you made this for. They will love it. Good job.🌼
Thank you! They loved it!!
@@sewcharmingquiltshop oh I am so glad. I know that it means so much to them.
This video is exactly what I’ve been looking for. I have two partially done tops that I started at a quilt retreat many years ago with my Mom. She’s now gone and along with those two pieces she gifted me her all of her quilt material. It’s been so emotional just looking at the fabric never mind completely overwhelmed at what to with it all. My plan was to make a quilt or throw pillows for each of my 5 siblings.
Thank you so much for sharing your work. ❤️🇨🇦
So sorry to hear about your mom. What a treasure to finish the quilt though. You should! You would be glad you did. It’d be hard to do though. I know.
I’m having the same feelings about my mom’s unfinished quilts and embroidery. Hop to one day complete them as gifts also
I’ve made a couple of baby quilts with my embroidered blocks. I like being able to combine my love of embroidery with my love of quilting.
The backing fabric was SPECTACULAR !!!!!!
Thanks!
The sashing and backing colors really compliment the hand embroidery
Thank you so much 😊
You did a lovely job, the backing they chose was perfect, and the finished quilt looks absolutely Fab !!
Thank you!! They did pick the perfect fabric! It highlighted the squares.
❤ TFS, very beautiful!
Those embroidery squares are beautiful thank you for sharing them with us.
Glad you like them! Thanks!
Hard work turns lonely ❤❤❤❤❤
Very Unique and Beautiful!
A Wonderful Keepsake!
My Mom did 12 angel squares. She died before she could finish the last 2. I finished them and I have never done a quilt so this helps me understand how to do the squares.
You should finish it! I bet it’s beautiful!
Very pretty. Good teaching too thank you.

Beautiful I love the green
Wonderful work Penny! Your work has highlighted each of Ms. Lois’ squares. I do love your tip on figuring the backing too, math gives me a headache😅
Me too! Some days I just don’t feel like figuring it out. We use an app but I still have to plug the numbers in. 😂
Perfect backing choice. Lovely memories for the family. Well done.
Thank you!
Thank you so much! Such a precious memory for those girls. You did an excellent job explaining all about the sashing. Thank you so much
Thank you!!
That is great! Thank you for sharing! I have some squares like that done by my husband's great grandmother. Now I know what to do with them!!

It’s beautiful
Thank you!!
Thank you for being such a good teacher i did one of your quilt❤
Awwww thank you! I hope you had fun with your quilt!!
Thank you for doing this. It gives me some ideas for some embroidery I have!!
Yay!!
Wonderful and beautiful memory quilt. I have been doing a few with hand embroidered pieces left by my relatives. Embroidered pieces need Pellon Shapeflex on the back, just like a T-shirt/baby clothes quilt. It stabilizes the embroidery stitches and prevents distortion of the embroidery. This method is used by most memory quilters and kits that combine hand embroidery and pieced blocks.
Depending on the piece, yes. These didn’t need anything as they were sturdy.
Great tutorial. I have an embroider ing machine and have lots of blocks. Great ideas.
That is absolutely beautiful. I am learning so much about quilting from you. I need to practice binding some on some potholders so that I can bind a quilt one day. Thanks for your tutorials.
Wonderful! Keep learning and try some. You can do it! You’d love it and have fun with it.
Beautiful work
Thank you very much!
Beautiful.

She did!!!!
Owow lovely
This is what I working on now, This is beautiful you did a great job. Thanks for sharing, 34:59
Awesome! Thank you!
Hello this quilt turned out so nice, i like all the embroidery designs. Even the sashings were a perfect choice in color. Of course the quilting was beautiful also. The client is really going to be happy with the way this turned out. Thanks for taking the time to show it step by step the process along the way. I too have some Brazilian embroidered pieces. That someday I'm going to put into a quilt. I will keep this video to help me remember the process. Looking forward to your next video.
Thank you so much 😊 The customer was thrilled!! I hope when you make yours you send a picture. We’d love to see yours! Have fun with it. Thanks for watching.
This is beautiful🎉 what a great job you have done with the treasure.. I have a friend that I am helping with something similar from her grandmother. Would you ever consider adding stabilizer to the embroidered blocks to had some protection for the embroidery?
Yes if it needed it. These particular blocks did not. I have added P44F to the back of some in the past. Worked great.
beautful
I want to make a quilt from embroidery squares I’ve made but I need to clear up wips and use scraps for scrap blocks first!!
I will need a purple seam guide when I get there in June
I have squares that my grandmother made for me when I was born. I have several granddaughters and want to do something for each There are fifteen to be divided by nine granddaughters One granddaughter already has one but wanted to just frame it These were made prior to Aug 1945
Awesome!!! What are you going to do with the rest of them?
I am always given every scrap of fabric when I take a quilt to a longarmer.
Yes! I do the same. I believe all longarmers return the extra material. Did someone not? If you’re taking about the excess I put on the quilt for the label and for rolling it on the machine, I did not charge the customer for that so it was my material. Just to be clear.
I’ve never seen a long arm to quilt. I was intrigued that the quilt top was as loose as it was.
It wasn’t loose. Video might make it look that way. Not sure. But it is somewhat tight.
@@sewcharmingquiltshop thanks for the explanation!
I have squares that belong to my aunt that she embroidered, but she had put batting in between and a backing on each piece now I’m trying to figure out how to do the Quilt since she embroidered through all pieces. I hope that makes sense. I’m just trying to get an idea how to make the quilt with these blocks done this waythank you
I’ve not seen them done that way but i guess it’s like a quilt as you go quilt.
I have a box of moms, hankies. Will I need to use deco to stablelize the hankies?
If they are thin, yes.
This is why I have a huge design wall AND take a photo every time I complete a row. The camera always sees what I don’t.
Yes that is true!!
I might have missed it, but how wide were the sashing strips? And how wide do you cut your binding strips? I have started doing redwork embroidery blocks to make into a quilt one day. This quilt you made is beautiful! Thanks so much for the tutorial, which was clear and concise.
Thank you! I did my dashing 2 1/2 inches wide. I also do my binding that same size.
How pretty! Love your color choices and quilting designs! Enhanced her beautiful blocks. Do you offer quilting services to clients outside your area?
Thanks! Yes we do. Sewcharmingquiltshop.com. There’s a tab that says longarm services.
Thank You!! You are so talented! Looking forward to you adding some Charm to my tops. Will def be in touch. Have been sending way too far. Your prices are fair and very competitive and quality is outstanding!
You did such a beautiful job, I know they will love it. Where can I get that green tape I need it, please and thank you .❤❤

It was a beautiful job, how does one go about pricing a job like this?
Start with what you have in it and go from there.
@@sewcharmingquiltshop Thank You
So beautiful!! Any idea what fabric that backing is? Thanks
Eufloria - we put it online and also listed it now in the description of this video with the link. 😃
@@sewcharmingquiltshopthank you 🥰👍🏻
Some of the embroidered squares look like they are placed so the flowers are in random directions. Am I seeing that right? A bigger picture of the co,pleated quilt would help. Thank you for the great demo and direction.
All the flowers are facing the same way. 😊
You made it look so beautiful. I would love to know what the name of the fabric you put on the back. You are a sweet person, and thank you for showing this video. I have learned a lot from you.
Thank you! I’ll have to check when I get to the shop in the morning. I can’t remember the name of it right now. Text us at 205-903-4133 and I’ll let you know what it is.
I wish I had someone leave some embroidery so I could make a quilt like this from it. I just love that backing fabric too. What is the name of that? Do you have more of it?
I’ll have to check tomorrow when I get to the shop.

You can draw them onto fabric and stitch over them. We have some in the shop too and more coming. Sewcharmingquiltshop.com
So do you freehand your quilt with your longarm? It turned out so beautiful!
Yes I did. Thanks!
Some I do computerized too
Please!!! What are the fabrics you used for the backing and binding! I must have 😅
