Fishing tidewater SALMON with WICKED lures!

- Fishing tidewater can have all kinds of challenges, especially from the bank! What tide do the salmon show up on? Does it change throughout the run? How to target them if they don't hold in front of you? We give you ideas and answers to ALL of these questions and more!

I fish the lower green duwamish where it’s tidal influenced. If im not picking them up on eggs I switch to the wicked. If they are there one of those pick them up. I tell people it doesn’t matter the species. I love how violent the strikes are. I wish more people used it instead of twitching to cut down on accidental snags in my area.

Wicked Vid! I first tried these last fall with great success. What length leader did you run? I take it you have the King Size Wicked? Love to see you try these from the beach here soon. I’ve tried this with the water really moving but nothing. Thoughts on when these might be best from the beach tide wise? Can’t wait for your next Wicked Vid!
Thanks! I ran probably a 3 ft leader, but could have gone with less due to water clarity. I would fish it from the beach just like you would a spinner. In which case it’s all about what tide brings the fish within reach. Sometimes that’s an ebb because you can get to a strategic point, but often it’s on the flood when fish really come in closer.

Is incoming or outgoing tide better ?
This is a great question that requires a nuanced answer. The short version is that it depends on how far away you are from the saltwater. I describe in my river fishing for salmon page on PNWBestLife.com the behavior of salmon in tidewater dependent on where we are in the run
I use a rolling drop 3 way so l can change out weights depending on water conditions throughout the day. Saves time retying.

I assume these would still work for casting into the Sound from shore?
Absolutely!
Is the Wiked Lure mostly good in the tidal part of the river, is it any good in the upper tributaries?
Good in any part, we just happens to use it in tide water
