    Funny how this movement was something completely natural to do as a kid, yet unnatural as an adult (for me at least)... Will try it next workout!

    As a (power) yoga teacher who picked up calisthenics as a hobby, I'm happy to see Daniel incorporating some key (power) yoga poses into his teachings. Yoga and calisthenics do make a wonderful combination. And for yoga the exact same applies as for calisthenics: go slow and consistent, and you'll reach your goals. You can gane flexibility, just as you can gain strength and hypertrophy. I started as an average stiff guy and I'm now, at 55, more flexible than Daniel is here. Everything is possible.

    I do it every morning after wake up, with some other few exercises for mobility and flexibility. LIFE CHANGES after you add this to your routine.

    It's CRAZY.. yet cool.. that I stumbled upon this video... Because I recently started doing a flexibility program that I seen on "Strength Side" where Trevor uses weights to push more in to the stretch... And have done wonders for my flexibility... Now I'm going to enhance it even MORE with your advice Daniel.. Thank you again for such a GREAT video😊

    Elevating the feet was a game changer for me, thanks for bringing this up, clear and informative as usual Daniel. The back bridge is an life-long exercise that can make your life longer! Like you said, you are only as young as your spine is flexible. You can continue to progress in this exercise by bringing your hands and feet closer together and hips higher. It won't happen overnight, but babysteps walk miles in the long term.

    There is a book called Convict Conditioning I read 10 years ago. It is an odd piece of training literature. There are so many weird claims in the book, I got wrinkles from frowning all the time while reading it. BUT: the book also contains a massive manifest about the importance of back bridges. The Author claim that there are 6 exercises (he calls them movement archetypes) which train the body perfectly. And back bridges are one of those 6. While many of the books claims are utter bullshit, I always kept back bridges in my program since then, and I am totally convinced they had a massive impact on my back health.

    I like your approach to mobility training. Would love to see you cover the pancake stretch, it seems to be the one exercise I can't improve on no matter what I do. I went from super stiff to being able to deep squat, touch my toes, back bridge etc but pancake seems completely out of reach...

  • @seattlegrrlie
    @seattlegrrlie 2 місяці тому

    I do stretching every morning. It is absolutely true that you are only as young as your spine is flexible - but that's also true for your shoulders, knees, ankles, and wrists. Young people can move, we only lose it because we stop

    I was surprised when saw this in Convict conditioning when started training. have you thought about creating similar maximally simple routine or or do an improved version of it?
    from all i have tried i find the simple nature and progression easiest to be consistent with it and got good results. Would love to find(an would be willing to pay for) similarly simple optimized program focused on maintaining quality of life(balanced strength, flexibility and some muscle) that focuses of simplicity instead of optimal results with minimum excuses from either time or mental capability to think about more complicated programs.

    Funny. About the standing back extention exercice, our dance teachers at circus school(BA) told us to work sequential from top to bottom, so upper, mid then lower back last. Due to the upper back being difficult to propperly open after the lower. Or just difficult in general. Lots of mind-body connection work needed to get it extended nicely.
    If you want to take back bridges to the next step and practise back walkovers it becomes more essential to work it upper-mid-lower rather than lower-mid-upper

    • @tjom7
      @tjom7 3 місяці тому

      Also weight distribution wise you would keep your mass more centered if working upper-mid-lower, as you would come closer to the floor with your hand sooner when its your hands initiating and leading the movement. Making it easier for the hips to compensate the weight distribution
