This van was my first vehicle back when I got my license in 2005...it had a few problems along my three year journey with it but for a high schooler and a good size group of friends, this van was a dream, good family trips in it too...yours is in remarkably good condition and low mileage, would love to pick it up if I had the expendable income
Just want to let you guys know I bought this with 42k miles and it now has 145k miles. The body and interior are still just as pristine as the day i purchased it. I am in the process of installing a 99 350 Vortec engine into it because it cracked a cylinder head and upgrading to a positrac.
+spiffcats they are actually my dad told me the stories about the van. i have one and it's a 1990 Chevrolet Astro CL AWD with 239K. and since I play GTA I found a Astro van named the Declasse Moonbeam and since I had the moonbeam from GTA SA it's reliable like it's real life counterpart but sadly it doesn't have AWD but it's fast. and I bought it for 35,000 in GTA 5 and it was the best Van I had for racing, off roading, and as a daily van too. incase you want to know more of the Declasse Moonbeam I left you a link. you could check it out to know info about it. gta.wikia.com/wiki/Moonbeam
Only one flaw with these vans. Pause at exactly 3:17 See those two small metal pipes, right behind the exhaust. They come right out of metal plate to the left there, that surounds the transmision. They are the transmision fluid coolant lines. Every astro i have even owned at about 350:000 km, has started leaking a fluid which burns onto the exhaust. The area it comes from looks just like the oil pan, or the drain plug, it isnt. It starts off slow, then after about 100.000 km it becomes a fast flowing stream. You put fluid in, it comes right back out. The problem is those two metal pipes go up, and through a metal clip beside the engine block. Metal pipe, metal clip..... scrape scrape, you get the idea. It slowly cuts a hole in the pipe. Heres the solution. Cut the pipe with a pipe cutting tool. (your hands will get drenched in transmision fluid, so put a container under if you dont want a mess on your drive) Do not use a hacksaw, this leaves metal shards that wil damage your transmision. After cutting both ends of the pipe, about 5-6 inches away from the clip get a rubber hose, i think its a 5/8ths. Make sure it fits snugly over each end of the metal without a gap. Put it over each end of the pipe, remember to put two clamps hanging farther up the pipe, once you put the rubber on you cant get clamps in there. After putting the rubber on, do not put it back in the clip. Simply put the rubber hose over each metal end, and connect them, using a tight metal cllamp on either end. If it continues leaking, you didnt put the clamp on tight enough.
My parents used to have one like this. It was a fun van for our family, then they sold it in 2000 & bought a 2000 Astro & it was nice as well. They sold it 3 years ago with around 100k miles because we didn't need a van anymore & it never had a single mechanical problem since they first bought it. We were lucky because these vans are usually very unreliable.
I'll bet that sweet van would come in handy now that you have to move. And just think of the room to party for Breeder. She would have loved to roam throughout.
I have the twin I drive. A 1994 GMC Safari AWD EXT. Unfortunately it's a base model, not the touring but it has many options on it. 120k, and it's very much in great condition. Probably not as nice. We live in the north after all. But, there's little to no rust. Paints good. It's impressive. It runs and drives like a classic. An unusual classic. Brakes and space up front being not a strong suit of these vans.
Curious how to tell if my van is considered extended or not and was wondering if you could help? I just the bought a 1995 Chevy Astro LT with less than 45,000 miles
I have finally found someone who's dashboard looks like mine..I have a 1993 and im a little confused on how to determine how much gas is in it...it goes up to full when I put 10 bucks in it.. please help me understand it I just purchased it
Astro vans really aren't minivans they have a frame and a big vortec v6 best small van ever made i don't know why they stopped making them i guess they where a bit dated looking.
the EXT and the Dutch doors were introduced as a option in 1990 for the Astro and Safari. did you know that the 1985-88 Astro and safaris had a 4 speed and 5 speed manual transmission and a I4 engine that makes 98 Hp
@@Nickybee12 I have a well maintained 99 AWD Astro, 177,000 miles, oil & filter always changed every 3000 to 3500 miles, tuned, K & N air filter, new muffler & catalytic converter, new vacuum lines & more.... $4295 (ish)

I like this version of the Astro van. I find it more attractive than the facelifted version that came in 1995.
