New subscriber here. I subscribe to anyone who reacts to YES because I want others to discover their great talent. They are the number one Progressive Rock band in my opinion. I've seen them over a dozen times since 1975. "Close to the Edge", "Roundabout" "Awaken", "The Gates of Delirium", "The Revealing Science of God" (live version from The Keys to Ascension album), "That, That Is", "Turn of the Century" 'Starship Trooper", "In the Presence of", lots more. Keep them coming you won't regret it!
To me classic (1968-78) Yes is more modern classical music than just "prog rock". Same movements, structure, focus on tension and release...it's all there.
You mentioned that King Crimson Red came out thie same year, suggesting it wiped this record. KC is amazing, but a very different style. At this moment, Yes were feeling really jazzy, so comparing this album to, say, Mahavishnu Orchestra would have been a more appropriate comparison. Yes doing “Close to the Edge or Fragile” would have been better comparisons for KC. Love the reaction. Also, to see how prog morphed into the rest of music, check out this video by Andy Edwards (a prog drummer) ua-cam.com/video/r5JXal2fgoo/v-deo.html - very interesting!!

I mean those are inherent aspects of symphonic prog since it is mainly inspired by classical music
