In 2012 we redid our kitchen and for the countertops on the 2 walls of cabinetry, we used the solid oak IKEA butcher block counter tops. They came out beautifully! We spent around $200 on 2 slabs of whatever the longest slabs were and had a 4’+ piece left over which we turned into a rolling kitchen island. When we sold the house in 2020 we took the rolling kitchen island (never even had it in the pictures and took it out before showings started) and I was glad I did because I learned that IKEA no longer had solid wood butcher block countertops. We had planned on doing the same kitchen in our new home and were disappointed to learn it was now some kind of composite something or another. 😢

Nice job! Saws scare me, so I probably wouldn’t try cutting down any surface. I do like how you used the island support bracket - I almost used them for supporting leaves to a table top after removing the table legs (I went with a metal hangar strap instead). Anywho, I’m not sure if you’re working towards a TV gig (maybe you’ve already had one?), but your videos look very much like something I’d watch on HGTV. So, kudos to you for making a TV-quality video / possible video for your portfolio!
You can always use a desktop that doesn’t need cutting. That’s a great that you came up with a good solution yourself! 👍🏽 You’re spot on. I worked in TV, sports and morning TV but I left to renovate houses. Happy I did, best decision I could have made. Working to grow this channel and community :) ❤️
They sell a smaller, battery operated saw. I was too intimidated to start with a big circular saw. My baby saw has changed all that! Might be worth a shot for you too.
I watched 3 of this uploader's videos so far and the pace is very good to me. I do not need to click around the time bar or speed up 1.25x Did you edge banding the side of the countertop that were cut off?
great video. here's a handy tip if you are cutting sheets by yourself, i use a sheet of foam insulation and lay it on stands and cut into the foam. It holds itself up perfectly so i dont have to be concerned if it falls off. great video and keep them coming.
miss the good old days when ikea had those solid wood butcherblocks countertops.
Me too. That would have been amazing.

This is so cool! I need something like this for my 3d printer and other stuff. But, I would actually need one on top a bottom one.
Fantastic idea! You can customize it for your needs. Looking out a window while working has been a game changer. Hope you love it too!
Looking great. Good install video. Awesome to see others doing out of the ordinary built ins.
Thanks, I’m glad you liked it!
Great tips as always👏
thanks so much! 😊

Thanks for watching! I haven’t secured the edge strip yet. I ran out of time with my camera.
