Mirrlees 4 cylinder Engine at the Anson Engine Museum

  • This is the 1906 ex Manchester Ship Canal engine.
    It was built in Glasgow by Mirrlees, it was one of the last engines to be built at the Glasgow works before production moved to Hazel Grove Stockport.
    It’s original use was to drive a centrifugal water pump to pump water back up above the canal lock in times of drought!
    The engine is being rebuilt to hopefully run one day at the Anson Engine Museum, Poynton, Cheshire.
