It seems like everyone I know is using the sauna every day, so I wanted to dive deep into heat exposure and see what the benefits are. It turns out, it may just be the best hack for longevity, cardiovascular health, and beyond.

Does living in Texas work too
😅
100%
It should even make you practically immortal
Heat makes it harder! I noticed that my heartrate is always higher when its hot, for the same speed and type of run. Theres always heat in races its unpredictable so you got to learn it. The cold makes it harder also. FOr me the ice hurts me in the winter more than the cold. ANd the snow also and low daylight hours and traffic and salt in winter, since some of the sidewalks are blocked off with snow in winter. In the 60s F is the best temperature I think. The heat hurts me worse during long runs with higher duration, than shorter faster runs.
’Most people don’t have access to a sauna” *laughing in Finnish 😂*
Here in Finland we have more saunas per capita than anywhere else on the planet and even average apartments are fitted with one.
I personally use a sauna after a long run to get my muscles relaxed. I’ve also sometimes go for a run after having a sauna. This can be a quite relaxing experience, but your mileage may vary. Paradoxically going to the sauna on a hot day can help your body cool down overall.
Pro-tip: if you happen to have some beer around, pour just a sip’s worth, not from your mouth obviously, on the hot stones with some water and you will get one of the best aroma fragrances (smells like freshly baked bread) to add to your relaxation.
Great video!
I have actually used the heat adaptation for mile PBs in my police exams
😂
200F is 93.3C. Much hotter than 75
Should not have done public math 😂
Yes, heat therapy improves aerobic metabolism. But cryotherapy does so to a much greater extent.
I'd love to see a study that shows that. Is there one?
@@JasonFitzgerald See Run Elite by Andrew Snow, chapter 18, and the studies cited therein. For example: pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/28715885/. This study doesn’t compare heat exposure to cold exposure, and I’m not aware of any such study, but studies of cold therapy show greater aerobic benefits than studies of heat exposure.
i'd rather go do exercise in the heat
You can do both. Run then sauna is the most beneficial method
@@GrassFedKao hot shower
@@robertstan2349 Both are great. But the sauna can help you prepare for running in the heat!
Interesting stuff. I am not however convinced that there is a causal effect here. Could just be correlated
I agree. I want to see the studies themselves to see what all is controlled for when they came up with those numbers
