Some worth noting and remembering are Old Mysore (to me breathing Malgudi Days of R K Narayan, Laxman's insightful lampooning cartoons), Tirupati--Tirumala 🙏 ( reminding me of Canterbury Tales), Puducherry , stretch along the sea to the Secretariat, (like waking meditation day in and day out, visitors pouring in from across the globe), Ooty (chocolates, rose garden, a black plaque of Tennyson's poetry therein, crawling railway tracks), Hyderabad (throwback to Nizam's days and wonderful Biriyani and many other unique recipes), broad and smooth asphalt roads of Tamilnadu and its maintenance of traffic (far better than any other place I know), Salem ( a never sleeping steel City like Essen) and many other places. For interactions IFLU and Hyderabad Varsity were worth experiencing. I feel a sense of belonging to the South for its unique mux of tradition and modernity, and their pride for their languages are admirable 👍 and worth following by others.

I am a permanent resident of Andaman and Nicobar Islands. I had heard from the elders of our family that our ancestors were also freedom fighters and were taken here as prisoners in the Cellular Jail of Andaman. however, the relationship between andamanese people with the japanese was not good. the japanese officers and men were quite racist and to add to that, they were extremely suspicious that the natives were spying for the british. hence, hundreds of andamanese were tortured and killed by the japanese. the tragedy was that, since the INA did not have a military presence on the islands (although officially Azad Hind was in command there), Netaji could not stop this wickednes by the japanese. the ina did protest several times, but the japanese did not listen. of course, this was not the only time - there were several other instances were Indians and Japanese clashed. On one hand, Netaji had excellent bonding with the top Japanese leadership; on the other, on-ground Japanese and INA soldiers often had bitter exchanges. complexities of politics.

Around 2000 Indians died due to Japanese brutality during their occupation of the islands from 1942 till October 1945. In 1943 , when Netaji arrived , he was kept away from the local population interaction because they would complaint agains Japs . Bose had slight idea about that but he cannot do much to prevent them. Even after Bose left after his short trip to the islands, INA had little to no control over the administration of the Island. In 30 Jan , 1944, the Homfreyganj massacre occurred in Andamans, where 44 Indian civilians were shot by the Japanese on suspicion of spying. Many of them were members of the Indian Independence League.

His father Janakinath Bose was a lawyer by profession and had shifted to Cuttack from Bengal to carry out his legal practise there. They had a house in Kolkata (still there) where they kept visiting every now and then. Subhas, however, was born in Cuttack. He left Cuttack after his matriculation exam to join the Presidency College in Calcutta.

For interactions IFLU and Hyderabad Varsity were worth experiencing. I feel a sense of belonging to the South for its unique mux of tradition and modernity, and their pride for their languages are admirable 👍 and worth following by others.

Andaman was the first Indian land to be free thanks to Japan and bose
however, the relationship between andamanese people with the japanese was not good. the japanese officers and men were quite racist and to add to that, they were extremely suspicious that the natives were spying for the british. hence, hundreds of andamanese were tortured and killed by the japanese. the tragedy was that, since the INA did not have a military presence on the islands (although officially Azad Hind was in command there), Netaji could not stop this wickednes by the japanese. the ina did protest several times, but the japanese did not listen. of course, this was not the only time - there were several other instances were Indians and Japanese clashed. On one hand, Netaji had excellent bonding with the top Japanese leadership; on the other, on-ground Japanese and INA soldiers often had bitter exchanges. complexities of politics.

Around 2000 Indians died due to Japanese brutality during their occupation of the islands from 1942 till October 1945. In 1943 , when Netaji arrived , he was kept away from the local population interaction because they would complaint agains Japs . Bose had slight idea about that but he cannot do much to prevent them. Even after Bose left after his short trip to the islands, INA had little to no control over the administration of the Island. In 30 Jan , 1944, the Homfreyganj massacre occurred in Andamans, where 44 Indian civilians were shot by the Japanese on suspicion of spying. Many of them were members of the Indian Independence League.

His father Janakinath Bose was a lawyer by profession and had shifted to Cuttack from Bengal to carry out his legal practise there. They had a house in Kolkata (still there) where they kept visiting every now and then. Subhas, however, was born in Cuttack. He left Cuttack after his matriculation exam to join the Presidency College in Calcutta.
