I think Peanut thinks He owns you, the way he faces away from you shows how comfortable he is with you, no fear at all. Great video, pleasing narration!
Your videos always pop up exactly when I need them. Love you and your birds. So happy to see peanut!:) he reminds me so much of my mockingbird. Amazing footage and story. Thank you for sharing it! Fills my soul. Hugs from Boston.
Bird Nerd Diaries! Love it. Such beautiful videos and well edited too! You are amazing! I feed the crows whole corn and suet in the winter during snow cover. They reward me by hanging around the rest of the year and get loud and raucous to warn me when a hawk is in the area hoping to make a chicken meal out of my hens. I have never seen a Gray Jay. It's interesting... I have noticed how BlueJays always seem to prefer whole peanuts instead of shelled.
ANOTHER GLORIOUS VIDEO OF YOUR BIRDS. THE BLUE OF THE JAYS WOULD BE DIFFICULT TO PAINT. AN AMAZING COLOUR, GODS PALLET. YOU BRING SUCH JOY TO ME, AND IT IS YOURS TOO AS WE SHARE OUR LIVES WITH BEAUTIFUL NATURE. THANKS 💜 CAMILLE AUSTRALIA
Years ago when we first moved into our new home we started seeing crickets, grasshoppers and the like impaled on tree branches around our house. Kinda freaked us at first but thenn we saw the Shrike! Very interesting bird!
Amazing 4K quality on the Sony, with the Blue Jays. It's fun to watch the level of trust that you have established with all these creatures. Love the grey jay landing on your head. Take care!
As always another flawless episode. A truly wonderful storybook adventure of a video. Now my week is complete. We would be happy to see any footage of squirrels and even the changing flora and fauna in your videos.
What a wonderful and entertaining video, Lesley! Thank you for sharing this with us. Just watching those beautiful birds flitter about in the air is just amazing and the snowy background looks gorgeous! I hope you have a wonderful 2019 and I'm looking forward to many more of your videos to come.
A marathon video! 😃 I really like the "head shots" - never seen a jay that friendly! Always fun to watch the antics and pecking order. Cool to see the little ones hunker down when alerted- Boris the nuthatch did that on my hand recently (didn't find out why though.) They seemed to respond to a snowmobile in the distance in your video- interesting. I hope your snow continues to diminish- we're supposed to get between 30 to 60 cm of snow by Friday (no kidding!) The newly arrived robins will be disappointed.... Take care!
I live vicariously through you...not sure if you could ever know how blessed you are to be able to live where you are and to go walking around through the seasons, bird watching and even to interact with them. If I had my youth and health back I would move there and build a cabin in the woods and live off the land. I see so much as far as wild edibles...one of my personal interests is foraging for edible and medicinal plants. I love your videos! Please keep them coming. As I can't quit watching!
I am commenting as I watch this video since my memory isn't remembering well this morning. I love the Crows! Hoppy reminds me of the cartoons from my childhood (50s-60s) with Inki the Myna bird. "Your" Blue Jays are so very pretty. Man! Hatch and Maggie sure do move quickly! What a lovely shot of the falling snow! I love to watch snow falling. Maybe if I say we (NW Georgia) isn't going to get any snow this winter, the snow will make a liar of me and turn everything white! LOL "If this keeps up, I'm going to have to" name that little Nuthatch! It is so sweet that you check on all your babies, especially helping Hermoso. Wow! Nice Moose cameo! Hatch and Maggie were talking up a storm just after 14:00. Such a lovely pose by Blue and Sweet Girl. Those sounds were really neat at 16:48 when Fiesty Jay was fussing at Webster. I LOVE how you tap a little limb for Little Gray Jay to sit and then hand feed him some egg! (@ 1:50+) How neat! I really enjoyed this Bird Nerd Diary. I'm glad I had the time to watch it all in one sitting. I apologize for taking so much of your time to read this long comment. I really do enjoy your videos. Thank you for sharing and educating...and entertaining!
This gives me such a peace. I love learning about these birds. You have a beautiful soul. The birds are well aware. May you continue to be happy, healthy, safe, and may you have all you need. Thank you seems ... not enough.
All of your videos are fantastic, but I especially love the longer ones- please keep them coming! You have captured so much intriguing behavior through the years; with your personal connection to the birds you film, they are not only fun to watch, but quite educational.
Hey, thanks a lot. I won't be able to do long videos like this all of the time but I definitely agree that they are a nice addition. There will be more like that in the future. :)
Wonderful, touching and visually beautiful, as always. I like the name Bird Nerd Diaries. My cat Pixel was sleeping on my lap when I started this video. The chickadee calls woke her up, and she watched the video with rapt attention. I wish I could give it a second thumbs-up on her behalf.
All your videos are so calming and just beautiful! I wish I could think of another word that describes beautiful. You are certainly blessed to be in such a magnificent area where the scenery is gorgeous! Love all your videos!❤️
The "something better" your crows would like is cheese. High-strength, extra-mature cheddar is what I give them. They love that. Of all the things I've tried with crows, that seems to be their favourite.
I just discovered your channel. I watch after work with my husband. We really enjoy your beautiful videos and the birds. We too feed and watch birds. Have a wonderful day!
Hi Lesley, Oh how I didn't want this video to end!!! Another creative and heart-warming diary. You always have such a soft spot for the underdogs (Hoppy, Little Grey, Angel, lonely Hermoso) - making sure they each get their fair share in this lovely bird community of yours. Hatch can't wait to fill you in on all the bird "gossip" LOL I love ALL your "crew", but must admit Hermoso has my heart. 💕 Here's hoping he finds a mate this year then he won't have to suffer "kid brother" hanging around by his side ☺ 💕😚💕 Alli
Nora was my sweet Crow. Her mate was Jazz. The first I befriended. It just amazes me to hear you talk to and about them. Thought I was the only one. My neighbors either thought I was a crazy bird lady or thought I was cool. Love watching this.
hi Leslie...I'm backtracking on your videos, since I only discovered your channel a few months ago. thanks for your kindness to animals and you wish to document and share your relationship with them and nature. and, of course, Peanut is quite adorable landing on your head. no wonder you were so fond of him. these are delightful videos and I share them on my fb page so other friends can enjoy them, too. thank you for your love and dedication to the birdies and wildlife, I've learned so much about birds from watching your videos, my ear and eye has sharpened, as a result, as well as my appreciation. please keep up the wonderful good works as long as you desire, as long as it fulfills and inspires you, it's been a blessing for us all. +++
Currently watching my finches brighten up yellow here in Michigan. Also saw my first pair of pelated woodpeckers about a week ago for the year. Always enjoy your videos, you do an awesome job with the footage and editing. Thanks so much✌
Leslie you keep outdoing yourself! Fantastic work as always! The relationship you've created with these wonderful wild feathered relatives is truly impressive (along with your dedication)! Much appreciated!!! I'm gonna nominate you for the Bird Academy Awards!
Thanks Lesley! Look forward to seeing your upcoming videos. Especially the spring ones. I noticed that all of my wintering White Throats have disappeared recently, so they are headed back north. They always were too shy for me to get close to any of them unfortunately, but I could observe when they came up to my back porch to get the food I spread out. The new name of the series is perfect. I like it!
So cute nice to see the December update they are lucky to have you providing for them like that hard boiled eggs and cat food? I can see why that Grey Jay is intruding on Peanut's turf :P Love seeing the little chickadees and nuthatches as always good to see them on guard from the grey Jays if Peanut did... Well birdies be birdies doing what they can to survive. Here it has been interesting this winter two Red Breasted Nuthatches have visited over the winter along with our usual White Throated Sparrows Dark eyed Juncos and Pine Siskins. One was fairly assertive and "no Nonsense" getting what it wanted and leaving to the trees until it finishes its current seed as was ready for more but the second was probably the most timid little bird I have ever seen it flees at the first sight of any thing and sometimes even when there are no other birdies in sight I've been worried about it. More in general it is worrying me that our typical migrators haven't left yet as it is already april yesterday I saw a few white throats some Juncos and a red breasted nuthatch (the one that isn't afraid of everything) Today I have only seen one female Junco so I'm thinking they may have left? Thanks for the dose of cuteness :)
Thanks very much for sharing the videos. Only came across them the other day. Jealous that you get Blue Jays eating from your hand. About 4 years ago, saw my first Blue Jay eating out of a persons hand just east of Toronto. I always get a big thrill when a bird comes to my hand to get some food. Interesting that the Gray Jay eats hard boiled eggs.
I so enjoy your videos! I would give anything to have them feed out of my hand! I have a screen tray (in case bird seed gets wet and can dry so as not to feed moldy food) setup outside my home. I started watching birds when I was told I couldn't do something because I was a girl .
You wander in the woods with moose! My soul you are a brave girl! I thot I was a country girl but I'd be scared in the woods if there were moose around. I live in southeast Michigan. So no moose around here!
Thank you for the video! Hope your pretty birds send you happiness! My Jays are well into their courting time here in Western NY. Great to see your video!
I'm curious about what state you live in. I'm guessing Wisconsin or Michigan? I love your vids. Makes me feel more 'normal' to be around other bird nerds like me! Wait- we're the normal ones, right gang!!; Ha ha. Love to read the comments too. Ain't nature grand!
Nice videos collection ... like how you name your familiar bird friends ... here hoping you may name a new friend "Columbo" 🐦 You have a wonder voice ... Just changed my Bird feeder to a hanging wide open tray, enjoy seeing a variety of birds sharing the feeder like sparrows, mourning doves and cardinal couple
I eat a lot of chicken, and when Im done cooking it I debone all the meat then take the skin and fat and gristle and cut it all into pieces. Each morning I toss these chunks onto a shed roof and let the local crow family enjoy them, their summer roost tree is just down the alley from the house and they have learned to stop by all winter long, especially on these subzero days.
I think Peanut thinks He owns you, the way he faces away from you shows how comfortable he is with you, no fear at all. Great video, pleasing narration!
Wow! Loved those close ups of the Blue Jay's 😍😍

So cool that they eat from your hand!
Thanks love your videos . they make my days so much better.

So cute with the snow on their beaks 😊
Years ago when we first moved into our new home we started seeing crickets, grasshoppers and the like impaled on tree branches around our house. Kinda freaked us at first but thenn we saw the Shrike! Very interesting bird!
Those 2 Blue Jays fighting stole the show! And I love how tame those Gray Jays are, along with Peanut's appetite.
Amazing 4K quality on the Sony, with the Blue Jays. It's fun to watch the level of trust that you have established with all these creatures. Love the grey jay landing on your head. Take care!

Another great avian anecdote of bewitching birds. Great scenery👍
I appreciate these captivating and meditative video journals so much. Treasures.
