Same! It really is helpful to hear someone explain the position, itself, as well as their take on the card "within" the position, and then how it relates to the other cards/positions. Very helpful.

    Lovely video!
And that last position, the word KEY was so great to hear; just reading it as 'outcome' I always felt opposite to my approach to tarot, but reading it as the Key to the outcome really transformed it for me.

The Celtic Cross is the only spread I've ever done. I'm an inexperienced reader, but it seems such a sensible spread. I really enjoyed watching you do the readings. That, in itself, was educational for me. Thanks, Lisa!

This was the first spread I learned and is my favorite. I still have the deck (my first one) from the 90s where I learned this way of reading. The wording I learned was position 1) The Heart of the Matter 2) Crossing Card 3) The Root of the Matter 4) The Current Situation 5) The Recent Past 6) The Near Future 7) How you see yourself 8) How others see you 9) Hopes and Fears 10) the Outcome.

Holy moly, Lisa. I always avoided the Celtic Cross because SO MANY CARDS and I always felt like it would take too much energy and the write ups I encountered seemed so confusing. Just did my first Celtic Cross reading and this method is SO EFFECTIVE. Where has it been all these years?!

I was intimidated by the Celtic Cross when I first started reading, but now all my client readings end up involving at least that many cards so I've been gravitating back to it 😅 I really enjoyed seeing your take on it! Tom Benjamin's New Celtic Cross is great, too 😊

I use the Celtic Cross - most often for others, but sometimes for myself as well. Generally, I prefer larger spreads because I always want more information LOL. I find that even if I do a three card spread, I end up pulling more cards to chunk up or chunk down. When I draw for myself, I tend to make up spreads on the fly just based on my intuition.

Hi, Lisa, I'm late to this particular party, but I've been watching your videos for a while now, and as a relative newbie, they are fantastically helpful. This one was just awesome! I agree with so many of the comments. I always found the Celtic cross so intimidating, I thought I might never get to it. My readings for myself and others are usually 1- 5 cards. But this was SOOO inspiring. I'm going to do a Celtic cross tomorrow, and keep practicing it from now on. As others have said also, it's really helpful to see how you do a reading, or two in this case. I have this panda deck, and it is so cute. But I haven't actually used it very much yet. Kudos to you for a great video with great learning from it.

YES the Celtic Cross is awesome! I'm so glad this video was helpful to you!!! It was kinda this video and kinda some live q&a's I did from my Tarot with Training Wheels beginner series that inspired my new Learn to Read Tarot with me series - that's a series just like this video, kinda, where I break down a simple spread and do a few sample readings with it and verbalize how I get the results I do from the combination of cards, so you might enjoy those videos. I have a new one coming out at the end of this month. ALSO I'm hosting a Troubleshooting the tarot Q&A this Sunday! Hope to see you there!

Like Dawn Michelle said in her video the wording in some books is confusing and doesn’t align with her practice... I had that same opinion. Interesting to hear that you use it all the time. Most tarot tubers generally have not for them kind of attitude concerning the Celtic Cross. Thanks for the insight!

I am listening to this to learn the celtic cross and derivitives of which you are an amazing and clear teacher but....you just did that spread for me!! It feels like it was a personal reading and with a second spread follow up!! I have been working in a job that i did love but has had some really severe challenges and has actually made me feel like i dont like who i am at work despite knowing my job so well. Luckily i have a manager who knows me very well and wants to see me sparkling and happy again and suggested a job in another department. I have had some fears moving as i am so close to long service leave that i dont want it to affect my stability there but i desperately need a change to be happy and feel myself again. I have been put forward for a transfer and they want me in the other department. I have the skills and knowledge but just need to transfer that skill and knowledge into a new role and learn how to do the new job methodically. It will be quite different but will give me a breather from the immediate stresses of the current job. There will be deadlines to meet and challenges in the new job but the worry is learning the new processes and procedures and when the transfer will happen. So excited for the new opportunity but want to make sure a secondment does not jeopardise my long service leave or my original position. Very interesting how your reading resonated exactly with my situation. Well done Lisa 🥰
PS i think because of how personal it felt it may help me learn the positions well...going back to replay it now 😆

So funny, I like a reading without a question. I lean, possibly too heavily on what the energy surrounding someone at the moment is. Then again I don't read professionally. That probally makes a big difference and probally frustrates the people I have read for me. Yikes. Thanks again for sharing your knowledge with us.

this was really interesting. I may come back to it and try it. I usually lay 3 to 4 cards down and then go by rows down to see what is lining up where, and pull out different patterns. Like one column having all wands, or maybe it has 3 wands ans 1 cup what what does that mean. Maybe diagonal all the numbers are 2s and what does that mean and add to the reading.

You said that you don’t remember where you learned it this way (hopes & fears). I had the deck Mythical Tarot, back in the early 90s. It was the only deck or book I used back then and didn’t use cards again until a year ago. It came with a black cloth with an outline for the card spread. These are the terms I remember it using for each position. So I just wonder if that might be one of the places you encountered these position definitions. Course it was probably in many books this way back then too.

thanks so much for this video, it makes it feel very much more clear than i have been understanding it before and inspires me to try some imaginary readings! do you often do a celtic cross for yourself too? or can you do a celtic cross for a friend who is on your mind and far away, but not something you will necessarily tell them about or talk to them about ? just to get ideas about where they are at for your own knowledge or feeling of them? and lastly, do you ever do a celtic cross with all Oracle cards? A lot of questions.... answer or not however you feel.. I love your channel and am so grateful for all the knowledge and fun you give to the world of Tarot. by the way, i just Had to buy the Monstarot by Joanna Nelson after hearing your fondness of it, and after seeing Marlene Theresa's delightful daughter do a reading with it and calling you her favorite tarot-tube reader of all time! thank you for all you give!!! you are "a river to your pepole" (quote from the movie Lawerence of Arabia)

As I commented on Dawn Michelle's video, this spread has always been card soup to me. Between bith videos it now makes much more sense. I really appreciate videos that get into the details of HOW people work with tarot/oracle and how to apply what comes up. I frequently get stuck on practical application of concepts, so things like this are super helpful.
You mentioned that you use this spread mostly for others and less for yourself. I am curious what spreads you DO use for yourself? I am a fairly recent subscriber, so you may have already covered this in a previous video? Many thanks.💜

For myself, I often work in smaller spreads of 1-4 cards. In fact, I started a list of my favourite 3 and 4 card spreads in my bullet journal a couple years back and I still refer to that list all the time. There are a ton of great ones on Instagram and such. :) But my favourite one I ever created is "Energy / Obstacle / Advice" and I find that works for most things. However, for my daily practice, I pull an oracle card (usually) for the energy of the day and based on the message I get from that card (and I love working with the guidebooks for this), I then ask a follow-up question and pull a tarot card, and then another follow-up for a second tarot card. :) That's my current practice!

I always look to see what's on the table and what's not but in a small spread like that, I'm not likely to give it as much weight - but it's still going to catch my attention if all 3 or 4 cards are majors (or 2/3 or 3/4 are) or if they're mostly/all pentacles or swords or something. If I pull 4 cards and two are swords and two are cups, then I know my client is probably in their head and feels about the question etc. It's still an intuitive process.... if it's a mix of suits etc it's not going to probably have a ton to say to me. :)
