    But don't worry! ;)

    I took notes and would like to share it for those who need it: 👇🏻
    - time word + 就 - Express an action happened earlier than expected
    - 我昨天五点就起床了
    - 你妈在你小的时候就离开了
    - 我们早就有新房子了
    - event1 / action1 + 就 + event2 / action2 - Express after action 1 finished, action 2 will happen immediately
    - 剪完这段我就去 after I finish editing this part, I will go
    - 就+ 要 - Express an action is going to happen in the near future
    - 客人就要来了 The guests will arrive soon (they have almost arrived
    - 我们很快就要有自己的新家子 We’re going to have our new house soon
    - 就 + 要 - Expressing “just”
    - 我就要吃这个 I just want to eat this
    - Reason (,) (S) + 就 (then) + Next action / The result - Expressing an if-then condition
    - 我喜欢就拿去 If you like it then you take it

I was helping a Taiwanese friend with English a couple of days ago, explaining that when someone is being talked about and the same person unexpectedly appears, In the US we say “speak of the devil.” My Taiwanese friend said that in Mandarin, the equivalent would be “Shuo gui, gui Jiu lai” (說鬼鬼就來). I didn’t fully understand what he meant until now.

    I just want to give an advise to the other fellow learners who follow you. Don't get bumped by these tricky characters. The secret is to get exposed to the language as much as possible (by listening to podcasts, watching videos, reading, etc.) and at some point you will just use characters like 就 and 了 naturally. Native speakers don't think about it, they just use them when it feels right. And this goes for any language you're learning.
    Good luck!

      Arama Laura Hello Laura!
      Yes I think your way is okay! Especially you have pressure to pass the exam. And at your stage, you do need to accumulate enough characters, vocabulary and basic grammar to move on to next level. Just that pronunciation is quite important when you want to communicate in Chinese. Remember to figure out what the differences are among those sounds so that you can have a great progress in your listening and speaking.
      Good luck with your learning! 加油💪

    • @GraceMandarinChinese
      @GraceMandarinChinese  4 роки тому +5

      James Wong The answer to this question varies among people. It depends on how you analyze and categorize it. Even dictionaries have different definitions of this word. I don’t think you have to memorize how many versions there are. Just listen more and practice using it in different contexts. It will be okay! ;)

    • @JamesWongLife
      @JamesWongLife 4 роки тому +2

      I completely agree with this. The way I go about it is learning the different meanings, but not necessarily memorising their exact use and definitions. Then by having a lot of input, you will come across 就 or whatever grammar you’ve learned and see how it’s used in context and slowly get used to it and it’ll become part of your active language.
      The downside to this way of learning is it doesn’t test well, often the grammar is taught then a test is given for the chapter within 5 days which isn’t enough time for new grammar patterns to be internalised.
      It’s a common phenomena that people can test well at a language but can barely speak it, I think the reverse holds true as well.
