Not only the music but the artwork on both Demons and Wizards and magicians birthday albums is by Roger Dean who also done all the Yes albums and the Osibisa albums, a brilliant artist.
Man, this brings back memories. 68 here! Found This: “Uriah Heep is a fictional character created by Charles Dickens in his 1850 novel David Copperfield. Heep is the primary antagonist during the second part of the novel. His character is notable for his sycophancy.” Good to see the younger folks willing to discover new groups and genres.
This is the first time I have written to you, I have been subscribed for years, you are my favorites, you are a wonderful family and I love seeing you. I want to humbly congratulate you, you respect the music, you make accurate comments and you are very pleasant, right down to your tone of voice. Greetings from CHILE my beloved country.
Yep and all pre computer, LOL...all artwork. I'm an artist so yeah and my career has been in graphic design. Lots of artists/illustrators kept busy back then.
Saw Uriah Heep in concert way back in the 1970's. Anyway FYI today would have been Foghat's great lead guitarist Rod Price's 77th birthday. Unfortunately he passed in 2005 from a fall at home. Would be great to react to one of his great lead guitar perfomances on a their 1977 LIVE album called "Honey Hush" or Honey Hush (Live) (2016 Remaster, which is one of the great LIVE jam songs ever recorded. Hey, it helped me break the 1000 pound barrier in weightlifting 😉
Such a great band and song . . a real favorite of mine . . . glad you covered it . . . there is a "live" video of them doing this song . . . they looked so baked, lol
Lost in the sauce songs..."July Morning" ( full album version), and the beautiful "Firefly"...rockers..."On the Rebound," "Sympathy," "Who Needs Me," and I love "Sympathy!"
Love Uriah Heep. Wizard is a great song. Easy Living is a great. My Sister has this album. I would listen to all the time in the late 70's. Jay & Amber thank you for the memories. Look at that amazing art on the album cover. Love y'all
I read that Uriah Heep is going on their farewell tour the next coming years. You should try to go see them! :) And I have to say, I see Amber have lost some weight and she looks stunning! 😍😇
Oooww...always loved this band and this song is one of my favorites! Their name has always been a laughing trip...naming yourselves after a conniving hooligan? 😂😂😂
I'm an old boomer and that takes me back to my college apartment ca.1976. Would follow this up with some UFO and pass the bong. Thanks for the time travel.
My favorite era is from the mid '60s to the mid '70s. It's a time that is lost forever, and even though I'm an old man now I wouldn't trade those memories for anything.
A buddy and I went to see Uriah Heep (we were crazy about them) in Birmingham in the 70's. For some reason they were canceled but we did see Earth, Wind, and Fire and they were terrific. We got stoned of course, met some girls and stayed in B'ham for a while. Very disappointed we missed Uriah Heep but still had a good time.
Uriah Heep was a British band but the bassist (until he met with a terrible accident on stage) was New Zealander Gary Thain. The band as a whole was a unique crossover between metal and progressive. They did indeed give of a magical, mystical vibe and lyrically they were quite poetic. Heep was in a class by themselves.
I haven't heard this or the Wizard in a very long time, but I remembered all the lyrics..every one! Lol Thanks so much for this one, and I love your reactions!! ❤
First album with new drummer Lee Kerslake which made up the classic Uriah Heep line up. With David Byron on vocals, Mick Box on guitar & only member still in the band & alive. Ken Hensley on keyboards & guitar & Gary Thain on bass. Sweet Lorraine Gypsy Sunrise The Magician's Birthday July Morning Circle Of Hands Wonderworld
oooooo, Jay - I'll bet YOU are going to DIG THIS ONE!! LOVE ME some URIAH HEAP!!! :) STILL sending HUGS & PRAYERS for YOU & YOUR WHOLE FAMILY!! ENJOY!!
Great choice today J and Amber. Saw Uriah Heep back in 1973 at Keil Auditorium in St. Louis. Check out Magician's Birthday. Amber they will take you on a musical trip good vs evil. Wonderful to see you guys. Be good to yourselves!
Uriah Heep's "Demons and Wizards" is an album you could make a great episode of listening to from start to finish. The entire album is really that good. We'd love if you would do that!
1976, a girl invited to go see KISS. No opening act had been advertised, so I was extremely surprised and pleased when Uriah Heep took the stage, as I had been a fan for years.
I was at the "Uriah Heep Sweet Freedom Tour" in 1973. Uriah Heep headlined the show with Earth, Wind and Fire as the second band. The opening band was a three man group I had not heard of before. They called themselves ZZ Top. Even though I went to the concert to see Uriah Heep, Earth, Wind and Fire stole the show.
Now we're talking, the mighty Uriah Heep! This song was a big hit for them, it got great airplay back in the 70s they were one of the best. I was beyond lucky to see them in a theater in 1973 with ZZ Top opening on their Tres Hombres tour. We were stunned by both bands just blowing us away with incredible Rock music, though different, they both had the same effect, a state of euphoria after their set, we floated out of that venue. Do their epic song Gypsy when you can, another killer cut. Enjoy! 🔥🎵🎸🎤🎹🎶🔥
I saw three bands at the Allentown fairgrounds in 1973. ZZ Top was the opening act followed by Earth Wind and Fire and then Uriah Heep! What an awesome experience!!
Taking me back to high school again. We simply called them The Heep. Back then you would only hear them on FM radio because AM was still all about top 40. Definitely progressive rock, especially for the 70's.
Born in ‘74. Another band I was so very glad to discover when I was in high school in the very late 80s to the very early 90s. While I was into rock bands of my own era, of course I was already into Zep, Rush, Kansas, Tull, DP and many others, I’d never heard Heep on my local rock radio stations. I picked up The Best of Uriah Heep on a whim in, like, 1990 at age 15 or 16. Instantly loved it! Ya’ll should react to the title track from their album “Salisbury”! I think you’ll dig it.
Loved Uriah Heep since I was a teen - their original bassist Gary Thain was a New Zealander (Kiwi), so the band had great support here and toured a couple of times! Gary sadly died young after being electrocuted. He played on all these early albums. The cover of this and The Magician's Birthday were by UK artist Roger Dean, he did a number from YES to Osibisa - speaking of which check out Osibisa's Dance the Body Music!

Uriah Heep was my second concert ever. The first was The Beatles at RFK. Heep was the headliner. First band out: ZZ Top. Second band: Earth, Wind, and Fire. 1972.
@@JohnLennon99791 Oh it was horrible. I was 10, and up in the upper decks. I couldn't hear them at all for all the screaming around me. I honestly hated it. BUT, I do feel lucky enough to have actually seen them.
My all-time favorite by them is 'Tears In My Eyes'. A fantastic song that is extremely underappreciated. A ripping slide guitar riff to start off, an absolute rocker, then it goes into something completely different in the middle, almost Yes-like stuff, then some great jamming, then back to the where it started.
I was listening to Sade “Is It A Crime” and I was listening to her voice soar and thought y’all would love it. If UA-cam will allow it, then that would be cool to see y’all react to that song.
That's one of their most famous song also live. Please check out their longer suites like July Morning, Paradise/The Spell, Pilgrim, Salisbury, or from the newer albums Rocks in the Road or You'll NeverBe Alone. They were kind of the inventors of Prog Metal. It's their merging of organ and guitar as well as the harmonic singing that makes them quite unique.
I attended their concert at Massey Hall in Toronto in the early 70's. They appeared with Wishbone Ash who is another amazing band you must check out. One song in particular that is a must listen is the song "Phoenix" These two bands on the same ticket was clearly one of the best concerts I've ever seen.
Oh man, where to start? Bird of prey, the version on Salisbury. Also from that album high priestess and time to live. From look at yourself the title track, July morning but that's a really long song. Another from demons and wizards would be rainbow demon. From The magician's birthday, Sweet Lorraine, Blind Eye, Rain and Tales. From the first album, gypsy, and a song that was deep in my memory rediscovered the riff much later, Walking in your Shadow.
1973. College dorm room. Black light poster covered walls. Passing the joint. Mind moving across the Universe with the Heep. Memories. Circle of Hands is a must.
Personally I didn't hear this until I was in the Philippines getting the ship I was on getting refueled. Getting ready to go back to the coast of Vietnam. All of 18 years old, had some of the best hash I ever had in Singapore. One night after work I got lost on the ship and I knew it like the back of my hand because of my job.
Great band and great album cover art from Demons And Wizards and The Magician's Birthday by Roger Dean who did a bunch of Yes albums as well. This was my introduction to them in 1972 at the age of 11. I got to see them at Summerfest in Milwaukee in 1979. Check out Traveller In Time and Rainbow Demon from this album, Sweet Lorraine and The Magician's Birthday from their next album and Sweet Freedom and Seven Stars from the Sweet Freedom album. Also go back earlier and listen to July Morning. Enjoy!
Lady in black is one of my all-time favourite songs of theirs and also my late mothers favourite as she is the one who got me hooked on Uriah Heap R.I.P. mum.
My favourite band, seen them twice….my wife and I were actually invited on stage to head bang with the band in 2011….have all their albums on vinyl, cd, so many concert dvd’s, books, picture discs, box sets, paraphernalia…autographed stuff, pictures with the band from 2001 and 2011…solo stuff of most of the band members…off shoot bands of most of the band members…
Love her new hair cut, looks nice.
So cool. My uncle introduced me to the Heep in 1974. Such a great band.
Great choice. Amber your hair suits you, looks beautiful. 💖
Gary Thain was the bass player on this song. Tragically he died many years ago of a heroin overdose. No Narcan back then.
Uriah Heep opening for KISS in 1976 was my first concert! Love this song!
Nice
It was the "Destroyer" tour. Uriah Heep, Bob Segar & The Silver Bullet Band, Ted Nugent and Kiss. Awesome.
I saw that tour in Roanoke Va
Yes, seeing Uriah Heep when they opened for KISS in 1976. It was great. And it was in North Dakota.
Was my 1st concert too , In Roanoke Va.
Another winner from this legendary, great band! I've been a fan since 1970.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤👍👍🤘🤘
I barely knew them before I saw them open for Def Leppard in '83.
The Leps were pretty disappointing after hearing Mick Box do "Magician's
Birthday" live, 25 rows back from the stage, right in front of the mixing board.
I went out the next day and bought every Heep album at the record store.
@magnificentfailure2390 great music. I'm not surprised you bought them all. Discovery is part of the fun of music.👍👍
Next song should be Return To Fantasy. Because of the great intro.
Wise Man, Hold Your Head Up, Free Me, Lady In Black, and Sweet Lorraine. I’ve said it before, Amber is a rocker at heart. She gets it.
Lady In Black, but the album version, not the "old man live" version
@jamesdamiano8894 wasn't "Hold Your Head Up" by Argent?
@ originally yes but Uriah Heap also did it. Very true to the original.
Circle of hands.
I'll second all of those. Can't go wrong with Uriah Heep.
Another song that is ALWAYS turned up to 11. Rock on!!!
OMG....! I first heard this album in 1972... It still holds up...
Wow you guys are going deep into the vinyl ...kudos to you guys!!!🎉 Uriah Heap❤
My older sister LOVED this album, so did I. I heard this song A LOT in the early '70's. Thanks for the memory!!
The magicians Birthday...will rock your world into fantasy land
Not only the music but the artwork on both Demons and Wizards and magicians birthday albums is by Roger Dean who also done all the Yes albums and the Osibisa albums, a brilliant artist.
The bass work in this song is pure genius.
I do love the rock music from the 70s that use the electric organ, it works beautifully

Magicians birthday is absolutely epic
"Circle of Hands" > "Stealin" > "Rainbow Demon"
65 years now, still can sing along, remembering the lyrics. The LP covers in the 70`´s have been something else🥰
Album cover by Rodger Dean the artist who painted all those great Yes album covers

The great Gary Thain on bass
The bass (Mr Bolder) really holds their songs together. The more you listen to Heep, the more you really start to appreciate it.
Gary Thain played bass on this album, and the next several.
From their Abominog album you need to do “Too Scared to Run”, “On the Rebound” and “That’s the Way That it Is”
Named my son Dylan (after Bob) Uriah (after U Heep)...thank you...great band
