- Every developer loves to play with the shiny new thing. And while that's fun, it's not always the best use of time and not a means to an end.
Here is where I set up Wordpress - www.ionos.com/hosting/wordpre...

#softwaredevelopment #gatsbyjs #wordpress - Наука та технологія
I love it. It's not worst than any other cms/platform, and it's free. You can also find the solution to most of your problems with a simple google search and not having to dive into forums or badly written support documents. Most important, worldwide support. I tell my clients "I could die and you'll find a replacement the same day! :)))
I have done a few freelance jobs for people who wanted a website. Usually these are small startups or shops that require a landing page/ecommerce to get into the digital market. I have always used WP for them, cuz obv they dont have an IT department to take care of the site and neither themselves are technical enough to handle a simple change like adding a post/product. Thats why WP flourished and will keep on doing so
Yup, that’s one of use cases that WP is really shine. Use the right tool for every case.
I built a headless we site for a client. They had a team of content creators that used wp and it was displayed in angular app built with bootstrap so it could be customized to their liking by me. Worked great.
Wait until you need to customize it because of the clients requirement that wants advanced stuff like advanced animation, 3D, new building block, multi-step form, form with array, etc. WP may have the plugins, but the plugin needs to be carefully chosen and limited on what we can customize. Often, they put it behind the paywall. We not only deal with the visitor but the project owner that has their own requirements.
So, if you're a business owner who doesn't mind using WP and accepting it's limitation, then go for it.
I don’t understand most of the comments. People call themselves devs and can’t code a custom theme or use rest api to get a json data for a react app. Possibilities are endless. You can use wp only as a backend and cms.
You're talking about WordPress developers who understand the structure of the WP.
WP as headless CMS is not the actual problem, and most developers actually could do it. It's just when you're using WP as your CMS, page builder, form management, etc, that get complicated when we need to customize it and hand over getting complicated for other devs.
@@zunnur1 huberthub is correct. If you don’t like what’s out there you can literally code your own plugin or a theme to cover ANY of the “custom” issues you mentioned you client wants. Otherwise just use what’s already out there as somebody most likely solved that problem before and modify it.
In my experience Wordpress is great if does most of what you need out of the box, but it starts to go crazy when you need to turn it into something else that Wordpress does not or could not support. It’s also frustrating if your beatiful theme does not support the plugjns you need 😕 and if you ever need to install a ton of plugins, the site just gets slower, not to mention most of those plugins actually have paywall, and I’ve also noticed that some large plugins sometimes do not cleanup their mess and make permanent alterations to your database tables which they don’t revert back if you decide to uninstall the plugin 😢
Do not postpone installing security updates if you self host it. Since it is the most widely used CMS, it is also the most targeted one for security bugs .
true. that’s always been Wordpress’s claim to security fame
Docker + WordPress tests please
In my day job its all WordPress - while its 'boring' and not as fun as playing with the newest and shiniest frameworks out there, it just works for most cases.
As a LOOOONG time developer I have despised WP. That said... 99% of website visitors simply want information or services and so long as it is presentable they couldn't care less about any special effects or programming wizardry and in the end WP probably provides the easiest path to creating a useful and functional website. "Devlopers" have become too busy creating complexity for the sake of preserving an almost obsolete profession.
:o Alex, you are no longer my son!
and you not my mom
What's the microphone staying behind you?
That's my old Rode NT-1000. I've had that for 25 years and love it.
Hate Wordpress to my bones, is like going to ikea and be stuck with what they have. Usually 70%-80% satisfied but never 100%
Also raised a generation where a lot of people called themselves being a developer without even touching a single line of code..
If you think about it, are we truly ever REALLY satisfied? Even if we roll our own, it's constantly a work in progress.
@@AZisk But wordpress is a mess in progress.
The "best" about wordpress is, you can make a website without knowing how websites are made and the worst thing about wordpress is, you can make a website without knowing how websites are made.
There are so many morons out there who sell websites to clueless clients who end up with a super slow websites with 27 unpatched plugins in an outdated wordpress who never saw an update with a cheap theme from any cheap indian developer ... and then they're hacked or infected and the so called "wordpress developer" is not responsible any more.
Hey Alex! Where can I send you my opinion!! :-P
you’ve got my email don’t you?
Wordpress is the modern Frontpage but worse.
Hugo
Hugo might be a bit better than what I chose bc it will change less and it doesn't depend on the craziness that is npm. But overall, the message is, if you don't have to build it, don't.
I like php but every php developer is trying to avoid dive into WordPress, tones of shity code 😂
I'd rather write my own solution than deal with wordpress. Once because I like to make web sites and web app, secondly because if I want something custom I don't have to beg to the wordpress comunity to do it for me. I would never learn that crazy php behind wordpress. If it isn't MVC I don't want to touch it.
And for the front end depending on the type of the site/app a SPA or a clasic server side render would do the job. Also no need for CSS when you have Tailwind.
All that I would need from a 3rd party would be the UI/UX. I suck at that.
First one here
Woot!
SilverStripe just try 😉
