    10:03 this made me cry. “How do you love a monster” broke my heart. Yes, his son committed a horrible attack, but this man had decades of experiences with his son that were not horrific. It’s so sad that people we love can do horrible things. I feel awful for all those who were affected.

      That was pretty rough to watch...it makes you realize that "okay maybe THIS is why some parents can just overlook terrible things their kids do" because I myself wondered that when I think it was the Gabby case happened? Like how could a mother assist her son in hiding from the law when he's a killer? When he took the life of an innocent? But seeing this....I think i get it now.

      dude, that shit had me literally in tears. I am a desensitized American zoomer watching this on an iPhone but that man’s love for his son is one of those few and far between moments of reality where it is so hard to see this as a simple shooting or assault like we have here in america. we see it happening en mass over here, every week there is a kid shot at a school or beaten to the point of death and it has never made me feel the way that the aussies seem to. I really don’t know how to explain how this guy halfway around the world can get to me more than the people i live less than a mile from.

      You're not paying $700 for a bad device.
      You're paying $700 for a fancy brick that only becomes a bad device if you pay an ongoing subscription, and returns to being a brick when you stop paying.
      Unlike a smartphone which at least is still usable as a portable web browser (when there's Wifi), MP3/Video player, alarm, notepad, and everything else it does if you stop paying for connectivity on it.

    As a industrial design student, the burden of "do no harm" should fall on the product, not the consumer and certainly not a critic, who serves the consumer. How about creating a product that actually is worth the cost of material and manufacturing and actually in beneficial to the consumer? Its sad that these days that's really hard to find in a product, but that is how it should be.

    • @EisenWald_CH
      @EisenWald_CH 21 день тому +1

      I agree with you but also believe that this product is actually worth it for several people, the problem lies in its low market cap of people it would actually be useful to, and thus forcing the company to expand into people this product does not justify the price or engineering, but again this is a problem of the company, product and in this case product placement in the market.

    The father of the mass stabber seriously almost had me in tears in this pizzeria. Quite often after you hear these stories you’ll hear a family denouncing or distancing themselves from the perpetrator, but he stands there heartbroken over the death of his son and over the pain and death he caused. How a man can stand so much public multifaceted pain is beyond me. His grief and internal conflict really got to me.

      His words broke me. I’ve suffered with mental health issues for most of my life now, I’ve never been a risk to others but I was for a while very much a risk to myself. I cannot begin to imagine the pain he’s going through, he’s lost his son to a terrible illness, and that son that he loved and will probably always love hurt many people. You can tell he feels for those who were affected by his son’s actions and that he shares their pain, and he knows what his son did was terrible but he lost his son and he seems to feel guilt for still loving that son. I hope he can learn to mourn, and not blame himself for what happened.

      I am pretty sure that's why the IDF bombed the Iranian Embassy in Damascus, Syria on April 1st, which is technically Iranian Soil and a direct attack on them. By UN Charter 51 Iran has a right to defend itself and respond to that attack (the same charter Israel is bastardizing as an occupying force currently). Their (Iran) leadership even said they would not have felt compelled to do anything IF the international community (UN) would have actually condemned that attack on April 1st and taken some sort of action against Israel for doing so. It's so wild that people are saying Iran is bringing destabilization to the region when it's Israel who is attacking multiple countries in the region, opening conflicts on multiple fronts, and attempting to force it's allies into the conflict and assist in retaliations. Netanyahu is literally making the world a more dangerous place for every single person in the Middle East, Jewish people included, and even potentially affecting the safety of the globe. Really hoping there isn't any further escalation on either end because obviously all war is fucking horrific and imo a failure of humankind on some level but watching the west paint this picture that this is all Iran's fault or that it was unprovoked is frustrating, not surprising at all really, but super frustrating.
      And now of course since Biden did actually push for a de-escalation the war hawks are coming out, eager to throw us into the conflict and HARD for the sake of defense contractors (like Boeing), which would literally further destabilize the region, the very thing they are also criticizing Iran for doing.

The need for psychologists are skyrocketing but they make it incredibly difficult to become one. There are no beds in hospitals for mental health patients so people get thrown out. Ofc, our lack of expectation that mass murderers will be running around our shopping centres in the first place played a huge part in people's reactions too; I imagine in the US even without a specific announcement, they'd probably assume it was something like that just because it's so common there.
      Our schools have specific drills/announcements for the unlikely event that a potentially armed offender is on school grounds (code black, usually), perhaps public places should have this kind of thing too. It is likely it was a large combat knife, which would explain how much damage he was able to do - combat knives are designed to inflict as much damage as possible. These types of knives are illegal to carry in public in Australia, but not illegal to personally own and possess, though I wonder if that may be something that changes now.

    As an australian, violence against women is a huge issue in australia right now. Three women in Ballarat were murdered just within a few months. Then not long after after we hear about the rally against gendered violence in Ballarat we get the news about the Bondi stabbing, it's terrifying. All the women I know are talking about it and we are all worried. Many women I know are too scared to refuse men's advances in case they react violently.
    This shit needs to change.
    Edit: Ballarat not Bendigo 🤦‍♀️ sorry about that

    The Australian dad showing his grief breaks my heart and is the reason why the US is the last remaining 1st world country to have attacks like this, daily. This stabbing sucks for the victims, the parents of the attacker, the attacker for the lack of mental help and the country as a whole. In the US it immediately shifts to "he was exercising his 2nd ammendment right" or "it's those darn video games."
    Showing compassion and acknowledging that these are no win situations is how you actually work to prevent them from ever happening again

    My heart goes out to the victims of the stabbing, but also to the father. It was hard to watch, without crying myself, his emotional apologies, when it truly wasn't hit fault. He tried his hardest, did everything he could for his son, and now he has to deal with the grief from the loss of a son and the nagging thought of "could I have done more?" I would probably be more tearful and inconsolable if I was in his shoes. I pray for everyone involved.

    I’m an American that has been living in Australia since I was a kid, and I wanted to add something I don’t think many people are aware of. Australian’s have something called mateship. You can also describe it is as connection. A sense of camaraderie. I know you’ll jump to thinking ‘every country has it’ but it’s more than anything I’ve ever experienced elsewhere. Sometimes it looks like those protestors, sometimes it’s offering financial/physical aid, sometimes it’s dressing up in your best attire to take your bins out during covid (if you know you know) but it’s always inward, always emotional. They have it for the victims and the families of the victims, but they also have it for the family of the one who committed the crime. They have it for all those that witnessed it firsthand and the first responders. All the hospital staff and the psychologists that will help years into the aftermath. However, it’s not just for those that experienced it. It’s also for the parents and teachers who have to explain it to their children. It’s for anyone and everyone to shoulder at the same time. As a collective, they ARE each other’s pain. Sometimes they disagree with how others go about their mateship, but one way or another, they ALL do it. They have decided that when they fall, they will fall together... and when they get back up, they make sure everyone else gets up too.

      Aussie here, thank you for describing a cornerstone of our country so beautifully and completely. Mateship gets co-opted by politicians and people with an agenda, so it brings me so much joy to see the concept so clearly understood. It's also wonderful to hear an outside perspective on mateship since it's almost innate for us

    • @GrimFelArt
      @GrimFelArt 22 дні тому +24

      Aussie born and raised here, can confirm. It's instilled in us from childhood that even if you dislike someone on a personal level, at the end of the day we're all human and if you see someone who needs help, if you can do anything you should step up and help. Whole communities will come together to help each other and defend each other.
      The suburb where I was raised, during covid, the little family-owned corner store stayed open and became everyone's lifeline. Everyone already respected the bloke, he and his family have owned that shop for decades; a few substitutes for a year or two here and there but he's always come back. I think if it weren't for him and his wife and kids working their fucking asses off to stay open for those years, a lot more people in that suburb would have been in trouble. They did their best to keep prices as low as they could and were more than happy to take on IOUs for those in need. I'm pretty sure that if anyone ever gave him and his family trouble, the entire suburb would hunt that person down lol.
      That's what mateship is to me and I'm glad that we have this social culture here. It really showed in the way people risked their lives to try and tend to the wounded. And that hero of a security guard who died trying to stop him, the lifeguard, the people who ran up to try to block his entrance into stores. Legends.
      Australia isn't perfect by any means, we have our issues like any other place but the way people will come together to lift each other up is what makes me proud to be Aussie 🇦🇺 🇦🇺
      I just want to give that dad a hug. I feel so heartbroken for him, and for the families of the victims. What an awful tragic thing to happen, and the church attack too.

    As a Brit, I will say that in 2017, it felt like the entire country was on high alert in regards to any terror attacks. I'd just turned 17 when the Manchester arena bombing happened and I remember regularly talking with friends about what we'd do in event of a bombing and whether we were at high risk of it in the couple of years preceding the attack. It was so present every day that we would joke about it, and my drama teacher told us to devise a piece on IS as part of a lesson.
    Though that wasn't countrywide, in 2015 through 16, pretty much every school in my local area received at least one bomb threat. It was in the news everyday and everyday, you'd be thinking _is this the day we get one?_ or _is this the day it's not a hoax?_ It became so commonplace that one of the schools stopped evacuating off of the school premises because they'd gotten so many, and by the time my school got one, teachers were so prepared for it that I got told off for walking on the grass as we evacuated from a school that might have had a bomb in it.
    That dad is entirely correct when he said the whole country was on high alert; we were and so when the bombing happened wasn't at all out of nowhere. It was horrifying, but it didn't feel shocking.

Not to mention it takes significantly more energy and time to get even remotely similar results. Guns on the other hand have absolutely no use other than killing. I understand the argument in hunting and property protection in rural areas where wild life could be a potential threat (and obviously in certain kinds of policing), but aside from those narrow and limited uses, there is literally no use for a guns other than death and destruction. You cannot cook with a gun, you cannot carve with a gun, you most certainly can't weave with a gun. It is also long range, so you are not even required to be seen to take a life and leaves little to no room for defense, even in circumstances with other "good" guns. Not to mention the sheer number of people you can kill with little to no time or energy using some widely available guns in the US. These things are not equal in the discussion for banning and/or regulation.

    I'm in Sydney, Australia, and something people forget is it's not just the doctors, nurses and paramedics that interact with the victims in a health setting. Anyone who died or dies going forward from this incident is then taken to the Coroner's Morgue for examination and possible autopsy as well. The technicians and pathologists are exposed to the worst cases where they couldn't be saved or help was too late. I'm studying a program that leads to directly to working in a Forensic Mortuary setting, and something like this is extremely confronting, but the work we do is so important for closure for the families and the communities. We can't change what happened, but we can try and change the outcome for the future through coronial inquests and recommendations to the government. This isn't over - its going to be YEARS till the full inquest is completed, but I hope for now some comfort can come to the families of the deceased victims that their family members are being treated with the utmost respect and dignity they deserve.

As long as you have the most basic health care or even free health care, you can get an STD check appointment, possibly on the exact SAME day. The crap thing about the Sydney stabbings was that it was the first day of school holidays. The centre would have been packed with parents and kids. It’s a difficult centre to navigate at the best of times and many people need to visit several times to really orient themselves. It’s also an area with a high visitor/temporary worker population.
    The coverage of the incident was heinous from channel 7 and 9. Shoving a camera in the faces of the two brothers who saved the little baby girl was awful. There was no blurring early on just full open shots of people dying. Zero empathy from our commercial news stations. Channel 7 also named the wrong perpetrator and that poor kid got trolled and harassed over it for a full day forcing our government to name the actual perpetrator when they hadn’t wanted to. Horribly handled by them. The whole thing has had me in tears the last few days. The poor family of the Chinese student who will never see her come home, not to mention the father who is sitting beside his daughter hoping she will pull through. Devastating.

      Totally agree. Channel 7 also had the wrong guy in 2021 when baby Cleo was kidnapped. Just casually ruining people's lives so they can be in first. I hope they get sued into oblivion. Also, there was a weird sense of entitlement surrounding this incident, people wanting immediate information and demanding all the details of the perpetrator just hours after it all happened. And news media fed into it by doing horrible post-incident interviews with clearly traumatised people, and showing footage of victims before they're families could have been contacted. Awful.

Both of these people were well respected leaders in the automotive enthusiast community here. It’s torn a lot of us apart. Most people understandably are expressing lots of anger because of his actions. But this anger is also being directed to anyone like myself who are struggling with the fact that our friend committed this heinous act after he had spent years building up our community and doing so many amazing things. I hate what he choose to do in his final moments. But he was still my friend and there are still almost ten years of memories with him. One of the most important things I've learned in therapy is that you are allowed to experience *all* those feelings and that they are absolutely valid. You are allowed to be angry at someone who isn't alive anymore, while at the same time feeling sympathy for the horrible pain your friend must have been in to do something like this. You are allowed to love him and hate his actions. You are also allowed to hate him. Furthermore, you are also allowed be be angry at your friend for ending his life like this. There are no wrong feelings in a situation like this.
      Whatever other people might say, your feelings are valid and important.
      I'm really sorry that you are going through this. It's horrific. Please make sure to prioritize your well-being and emotional health. If that means disconnecting for a while, that is absolutely okay.

    As an australian, the stabbing in sydney is running all over the news here atm. But shout out to his parents. They have handled this with the most empathy and compassion for the victims and the officer. They contacted the police when they recognised him on the news and wished the police officer who shot their son well and they hoped she and the other wintesses were doing okay with the trauma they had to witness. Its a shit situation all round.

      Though I do think the overall threat of US intervention has prevented worldwide escalation through much of the last 7 decades, with smaller hostilities occurring as opposed to large scale. And it pains me to admit that as an opponent of US intervention. I'm more of an isolationist in that I think the US needs to save the money and spend it elsewhere(healthcare, retirement, etc) and keep a smaller but formidable defense force and let the rest of the world fight their own battles.

    The Manchester bombing is one of those events that will never leave me. I remember being at a vigil for the Pulse shooting, and at that moment I just felt a wave of dread, worried that something was going to happen in Manchester. I remember seeing this guy who was a regular in the gay bar where I worked, he was hugging his friend and bawling his eyes out, and that was the image of the Pulse vigil that was burned into my brain as my memory from that event.
    The next year, that same guy, Martyn Hett, was killed in the Manchester bombing. Also taken from the world by ISIS, just like those people he was crying for.
    The most sickening part is, while I was having these thoughts and suffering from this dread, Salman Abedi was just across the street from where the vigil was held, in Gramby House, learning and assembling the bomb that would cause this tragedy. What should have just been paranoia was eerily true with hindsight.
    So many of my friends were at that concert, I had just left Manchester a few months before the bombing, and I still feel a strange sense of survivors guilt over it. I wish I could have done something to stop it.
    To know that MI5 could have done something to stop it and didn't, that's unforgivable.

      Imagine what it would have been like if there were good folks with guns. Like security guards could have stopped so much useless loss of life. Regardless of what anyone thinks. If you take away guns (fine) If you take away knives (fine) take away cars (fine) its a slippery slope. Because anything in the wrong hands can be wielded like hammers, bricks, trees, rocks, rope, razor blades, syringes.. The point is.. a sick person who has no value on life will find a way to harm others. So logically speaking.. Its best to arm those with good hearts rather than taking away liberties in hopes to protecting. To further my point of view. Lets say your country gets invaded by whom ever. The military can't be everywhere all the time. There is power in numbers. And if the government are the only ones with the guns.. then who's going to protect those who get stormed by some rogue force of bad folks who don't care about the law and obtain firearms or explosives illegally.

    • @TwistedSense
      @TwistedSense 21 день тому

      @@gg_sam7847 Thats a wild take. The moment you start taking away the right to defend yourself is the moment you have situations like this. Is it not better to arm those who are willing to understand owning and carrying firearms? As someone who's been around firearms my whole almost 50 years on this earth. I've never been shot. I don't trust anyone to come and save me in a milisecond of someone losing their value of other lives. Imagine how fast it could have been de-escalated if the security guards were allowed to carry guns. Bad people don't care about laws.. You can outlaw anything. Bad people will still get whatever is outlawed. Look at all the drugs... You can't honestly believe that they are in their head saying... Oh its against the law. I don't want to do it. Nah, its more like.. Oh its illegal.. Let me get more power and money. Nature is very grim and gross, its either predator or prey. Which side would you rather be on? Im not trying to be argumentative. Just offering a different perspective. In any instance 10 good guys with guns is better odds than 3 bad guys with guns.

    You know last Saturday I thought I was having a bad day. I was Bondi Westfield trying to do some shopping. Nothing was working. I couldn’t find what I needed, made several mistakes and in the end was frustrated and annoyed.
    I walked back and forth in the area trying to motivate myself to continue. I even got myself some bubble tea as motivation. I wanted to go in and just casually shop, but in the end I made the decision to leave because I was too annoyed and tired.
    Legit 40 mins later the stabbings happened in the areas that I had planned to shop. So I no longer considered that day to be unlucky. I was very, very lucky.

    I very much appreciate the footage of the attacker’s father. Humanity as a society is always very quick to demonize the villains and ANYONE associated to them. We forget the REPEATED lesson that our monsters are people and often we either make them or fail to prevent them, and that failure is not always from lack of effort or love. The father is horrified and broken and will have to find the strength to live with the fact that this killer he abhors and the child he loved from the second he held him in his arms are the same person.
    I feel for the father, he is a victim too. And I can say that while not taking any compassion from those killed because there is no limit to humanity’s capability for compassion.
