I didn't notice Eli through Layne's whale play until I'd seen it 3-4 times....great reaction. More texture in their performance.
You never heard that part of the song because they wrote it for this video 🙂, and added it to the original song. I believe Geoff did it. 😁
Geoff's line about carving out the drunken sailor's heart with a spoon is a tribute to an Alan Rickman line in "Robin Hood" 😁.

Not your ordinary Drunken Sailor. Drunken Sailor is Bucky a previous member from way back when they were called 4:2:Five. He's been in two other shorts, 500 Miles, and Candy Caravan Escapade. Bucky choreographed Geoff's Monster Mash video. Gang back together from Hoist the Colors. The BTS video Shanaigens was so fun.
Bucky is currently a c.haracter voice actor at Disney World. He goes back a long way with VoicePlay. To quote from one of their other videos: Oh, Lord....what fun was had here.
Love seeing Jose back with them, he's so fun! Also love cesars twerking at the end 😂 and you can't beat crazy eyes Layne, high note Eli and low note geoff 😂💜
Regarding putting him in the longboat: I read recently that ship's boats were kept partly filled with water when not in use to prevent the boards from shrinking so the hull wouldn't leak when they were needed.
You never heard that part of the song, because Geoff likes adding bridges to repetitive songs. He’s done it often lately.
The drunken sailor is Matt “Bucky” Buckner. He was a member of Voiceplay in their 4:2:Five days. He provided the choreography for Geoff’s Monster Mash and has appeared in their shorts Candy Crush and very recently he was hilarious in I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles). Just watch the background from the beginning of the shorts.
The set is for the Villians Lair series at Pattycake Productions Studios )owned by Layne and Tony (VoicePlay’s former baritone). Just dressed for pirates.
Fun fact: that set was finish painted by a gentleman that was one of the artists for the Hogwarts Castle at Universal.
Love watching them acting with "their brand of crazy" but even so they still have "their brand of amazing talent" to go with it. Layne just killed the percussion and everyone got to shine a bit. Cesar twerking had me in stitches. Bucky tossing that creepy doll across the room was perfect. That thing gotta go!
I have watched this quite a bit since it came out but I hadn’t really paid much attention to the worried look Eli is giving Layne when he’s playing with his toys. But I think I might’ve found an Easter egg!
They recently did a mini of the Wellerman. In that piece, a whale approaches the boat, they harpoon her, and she takes them for quite a ride. At one point the lyrics state that it had been 40 days and the boat and the whale were still connected and she was still taking them for that ride. Maybe that’s why Eli looks so worried.?? 🚤🐋😮

I'm nit sure who had the most fun; us or Voiceplay, but I kinda bet it was them.
Oh, and the harmonies were worth the night long practice.

The closed captions said that the sounds that Layne was making was Celtic Drums. After they did that emotional version of Creep, this was definitely needed.

Layne's "drumming" in this has the sound of the Irish bodhran or hand drum. The accents too give the impression of an old British sailing ship. I believe that there is a connection to the whaling ships and New Zealand. The penalty for being drunk on a ship was pretty severe. Being out in the scuppers with a hosepipe on him doesn't mean being hosed down, but having your head pushed into one of the scuppers, or drainage holes in the ship's side, and being "whipped" with a length of hosepipe. The drunnken sailor is Matthew "Bucky" Buckner, a former early member of the preVoiceplay greoup 4:2 Five. His is now a voiceover actor and entertainer at Universal Studios in Orlando. Geoff has started adding a bridge to a number of songs lately, and this was one of them. Do you use the term "three sheets to the wind" in the US? It's ca ommon term for being drunk over here. In the BTS we see some of the guys doing the Floss too. LOL

Great reaction to this fun one- thanks! The drunk sailor in the middle is "Bucky", their old friend and brief member of their old group from high school/college days "4:2:Five" before they changed their name to Voice Play. Bucky does voice overs for Disney and choregraphed the Geoff clones dancing in "Monster Mash" ( there are also some recent Voice Play minis with Bucky as their featured guest). 4:2: Five and older Voice Play did a lot of these comedy, musical skits when they performed live on stage. I would recommend that for more of this kind of comedy live check out "Road Trip", "A Crimpella", or "The Chicken Song"- they are hilarious! You can also see their fun and humor together in their minis when they are strolling the mall where their studio, PattyCake Productions, is located.
I've reacted to a few of those minis, I'll have to do it again soon.
Last thing I noticed is Layne playing with the long boat still. lol They did have a blast making this, the BTS is fantastic! Thanks for the reaction!
