Thank you for being that voice. We need you! I’ve just finished my first placement. 5 weeks of working 70+ hours a week, 37.5 for free, it has absolutely wiped me out to the point where I felt my learning suffered at times due to tiredness and I also risked my life and the life of others because I nearly fell asleep at the wheel of my car...not once but twice! I don’t have any choice but to work in order to survive. The student loan company assessed my partners income so I get less than £400 a month to live off. I struggled to even buy fuel to get to placement. The passion and love for Nursing is the only thing that’s got me through but you’re right it’s not fair. The Tories should be ashamed of themselves, it’s the worst type of exploitation.
Taisie Wilson That’s awful for you!! 💔 they don’t realise how hard it is for us. When I was explaining the things we do and how we aren’t really supernumerary, they looked shocked! I honestly think they will do something now. They have to. They will end up with no nurses at all otherwise. It’s already running on the minimum requirement and below 💔 I can’t wait to qualify and finally earn some money 🙈 seeing the finish line keeps me motivated x
Thank you for speaking out for others even though it hasn’t affected you. I hope by September 2020 when I hopefully start things will have changed. But if it hasn’t it won’t stop me. The sad thing is I’ve come across a few people who thought doing nursing was impossible now because of the cuts but it is possible with student loans. And yes I’d love to see what you do at sexual health and a how you cope on night shift video would be awesome too. I’ve heard of a few nurses who have quit the profession not long after qualifying because of “nurse burnout” which they’ve said is a lot to do with the night shifts. X
Natasha Hewlett I hope so too Natasha! I think they will change it to be honest. They need to do something. The loan system isn’t that bad to be fair, you get more money than what I get on the bursary and when you eventually pay it back it’s only around £8 per month. It doesn’t go against your credit rating either 😊 I’ve been on some wards that have separate night staff to day staff which is great! Because some nurses love doing purely nights :) I’m not a night nurse at all 🙈 x
Love this video. I’m starting my degree in Sept 2019, hope they manage to get something by then for placements, I agree with you, I don’t mind paying for my education, but I think we should’ve paid for the hours ‘worked’ x
It'sIzzy thank you! I think we should too. One of their questions asked about being ‘supernumerary’ I may have laughed a little 🙈 I have a nervous laugh haha. But I told them ‘we are supposed to be but that’s not the case. We physically work those 12 hour shifts’ x
That’s horrible with the situation that Nurses’ are going through. It’s so cruel and upsetting; I hope something positive changes. What would the world be without Nurses? What if? On the positive note, I cannot wait to see you in Amsterdam! I have never been but my parents went there for their honeymoon. One day, I would love to go there. Yes please; I would love to see videos on Sexual Health vlogs! 🦋✨
Sez Francis it’s not nice to see or hear about 💔 I’m one of the lucky people who still gets the bursary and funding thank gosh. But even that’s not enough to live on. It’s cute here! The buildings are lovely. We have the Anne Frank and Van Gough museum tomorrow ❤️ Today we are heading out to one of the biggest flea markets 🎉 that should be fun! Xx
Realistically, do you think that funding like the bursary might be coming back soon? Would be great if it did but I'm guessing if it was introduced again, it wouldn't help any current students already on the course, only new students from the date it was introduced 😔 love your videos by the way ❤
Naomi Somers Thanks Naomi. Yes I do think they will do something :) it sounded like they have already started looking into what they are going to do; bring back the bursary or putting something else completely different in place. With the drop in student admissions they have to look into it and figure it out I think. But you’re right, I doubt it will be helping any current students who are paying which wouldn’t be fair. Unless they scrap it for them as well and then back date all the money to them maybe? 🙈 That’s a good point! X
I want to be a nurse but I can’t afford university yet. I’m working as a cleaner to save just to get to university. Fingers crossed that they add some financial aid because it would help me so much. It’s sad because I know people like me who want to take on the career but just can’t sustain a living. Any tips about how you manage to budget would be appreciated. Have a good time away! Xx
Sarah Redman Hi Sarah :) That’s such a shame that you have to work so hard to save for this. It will be so worth it in the end though. It’s tough but it’s not too bad. You just have to really be right with money and go for cheaper brands 🙈 my new love is Asda and Aldi haha. My bursary and loan covers my rent and bills then I just do extra bank shifts to live :) x
I want them to fund the course. I started in 2017, I'm incredibly lucky that I get paid my wage because I'm seconded (open University) financially I'm okay, but due to the funding cuts, my employer can't fund theory time. Which means if we are not on placement, we are working our contracted hours with no choice. It is such a struggle to keep on top of the academic side of things because we are not allocated any time to study or write assignments.
Penny Halliwell That’s an awful situation to be in too! :( it’s hard as it is let alone with all that. We get the bursary and loan but that’s not enough so I have to work every week to make sure I live. In fortunate I have a job where I can revise at work when it’s quiet. Other students don’t get that opportunity 💔
@@ClaireCarmichael it's terrible how student nurses are treated :( and it doesn't surprise me at all when someone drops out. There is so much pressure!
Hey Claire, the bank shifts you do are those only for people who are already healthcare assistants because I’m going to start my nursing course in September and wanted to know if I could do bank shifts coming out of college and becoming a student nurse
iqrah jabeen You can search NHS jobs for bank shifts :) and just apply if you like. With our uni, you can get ‘fast track’ applications for bank shifts at the trust you are working your placements on. So this is just a simple form and you skip past the interviews straight into the bank system to do extra :) x
Nurses in Ireland arent paid on their placements either and we dont get a bursary at all. We are drowning and our government doesnt care!! Its a disgrace honestly!
The haunting on hill house is amazing!
Amazing video
Your positivity is really uplifting. Keep it up and thank you! X
Naomi Ramage Thank you ❤️ x

Mermaid Atlantica I hope they sort Ireland out with funding too :( it’s really not fair at all! We should be paid for the hard work we have to do.
