When Cate is speaking to Rooney when they're taking pictures together, Rooney is just looking down . looks like she feels rather uncomfortable. Then again Cate's eye are quite mesmerizing to look at.
There is some tension, dare I even say it is of the "sexual" kind between Cate & Rooney... You can see the way they are uncomfortable with each other... When I'm attracted to a woman, there is generally always that little bit of grr. Hopefully it will come across on film. Cannot wait!! Both wonderful actresses.
Isla Rooney gave a fawning speech about Cate Blanchett at the Santa Barbara Film Festival. She obviously very much admires her, and she also said she was very nervous at Cannes so all of that amounts to the "tension" you may see here. Cate is just being Cate, as in she naturally emits something alluring. And she was also a bit protective of Rooney because of her nervousness and it being her first time there. See their post-premiere red carpet. They're not at all uncomfortable with each other, see their interviews after the Cannes premiere of Carol.

Isla I Agree with you they are slightly uncomfortable. It also shows in some of the interviews. However, it must be nerve wrecking to be put on the spot like this.
Attas van Patatas I can't imagine how stressful it must be for certain (the look at me! Don't look at me! kind lol) actors actually... I wouldn't cope at all.
I wish the photographers would tone it down slightly ... I know that's an unrealistic expectation since they need to get their job done but surely they don't have to sound like vendors at a fish market ?! Poor Rooney looks quite nervous and tired with that constant cacophony :/
