this is a special video because this song changed everything. its one of the most performed songs in the uk and made countless young people pick up a guitar and learn to play. they were accessible and relateable and inspiring.
Hilarious to see 4 people in a room trying way too hard and the one who makes no effort at all creating musical history on live tv. That is fucking talent.
Except perhaps at the first screening of Wonderwall, the movie from 1968, which George Harrison wrote the soundtrack for, and from which Noel 'borrowed' the title.
I feel like Wonderwall has been around since forever, Can`t assimilate this very first performance, This here is making of history! Look at full genius Noel! Live Forever!
Haha great moment. Noel cool af unleashing the most iconic song of British music in the 90's and Robbie sitting there daydreaming that he's in Oasis while Noel struts off with the guitar.
I think people often forget just how fucking massive this song was when it came out. You don't get that with music nowadays. Truly memorable tunes to define their generation
I know to some people it might be an overplayed song but It's secretly one of my favorites. I love watching Noel perform it, and there's a special element to Wonderwall that keeps me coming back to listen.
It's interesting how the variations of the chords are very slightly different on this version compared to the rest of them that were played afterwards. This was probably the very original way he wrote it.
He changed the key (and a few words) to suit Liam's singing style. He changed key on most songs, since his singing range and style is different to Liam's
That's the thing. Singers always add little things and change the intonation and such, thus over time it goes through the wash so much it ends up being a cover version of a cover version and is it even the same song anymore? As a thought experiment - Ship of Theseus.
@@PomBare Ironically, we can still hear it more or less performed the way it was originally done by Liam, since he sang on the original album version... despite he's always had a dislike for the song.
It suit's Noels range and tone much more, I actually think if Liam had sung the 'other one' in Don't Look Back in Anger they would have been both better songs.
@Vacuum Boots - Agree completely! I know this is 3 yrs old - but I agree completely! I think Noel sings Wonderwall better than Liam does - this version I prefer to the one Noel does with HFB. I think Liams' voice is better suited to Don't look back in anger and he would've killed it during his heyday! But I do really, really love Noel singing DLBIA though.
It was a cool song. I liked it but at the time it was just another good song from an up and coming band. No one could foresee that it would become a classic.
Bloody hell… I remember this like it was yesterday me and my girlfriend turned to each other and went that was fucking great and then having recorded it proceeded to play it to anyone who came round for the next fortnight!
oh you serious? Ha-ha, it's a classic tune and would have probably been even better if Noel sung it. Liam pulled a mardy and Noel gave in. Noel sings it with way more meaning, wrote for Meg Matthews originally and one of the best songs of the past 30 years, just over played to the extreme.
Seriously doubting if you heard the performance above. He did just fine. And while Liam's voice's a definite character, can't dismiss how well Noel sang here. So I'm sure the tune would've still held it's phenomenal merit if they released it as Noel's voice like here.
@danilson69 it's clearly a wrong chord, he hits a C instead of the G I think. doesn't matter though, only guitarists would probably notice a wrong chord!
@MrHurrikanable Same chords, if you listen to the acoustic one you can really tell. It's just a little slower, the acoustic one. But then again, two utterly rate songs.
I'm going to be fucking arsed when I say that the two guys interviewing Noel, well at least the guy with the glasses, is the same guy in the Absolute Radio interview with Noel Gallagher
If you mean Mark Radcliffe I’m guessing you’re not British? He still has BBC radio shows and appears on TV, the same as back then, he’s well known in the UK.
It’s crazy how often Oasis would play a load of un released material that would eventually make their next album. Like you never get an artist Just openly playing unreleased songs multiple times
wow...its funny how noone in this vid really realises the significance of the song they are hearing. the first ever performance of one of the biggest songs of the last 2o yrs.
Turns out Liam hated wonderwall and called it trip hop!! He wanted to do don’t look back in anger but Noel told him he wasn’t doing both as was so pissed off with Liam walking off of the stage and leaving him to pick up the gig!He actually said he shouldn’t have sung either as he wasn’t a great singer back then!
Liam’s tastes are so narrow, he never liked any dance music or anything that wasn’t traditional rock n roll. One of the reasons Noel wanted to go solo in the end, he had to push against Liam to do anything musically different.
People shouldn’t shit on this song despite being overplayed and easy it’s not easy to learn it’s strumming pattern and rhythm. There’s a difference between talent and overplaying
I like how Noel calmly says "this ones called wonder wall" but he's clearly thinking "have a load of this fucking fantastic song i wrote"
Haha yep.
The original "Anyway, here's wonderwall"
this is a special video because this song changed everything. its one of the most performed songs in the uk and made countless young people pick up a guitar and learn to play. they were accessible and relateable and inspiring.
Yup, pickup a Guitar, learn this song, the women comes running! The guys and Wildlife comes running too!!!
Just put some Martin strings on my old acoustic I'm giving it to my ex's 8 year lad I'm going to teach him how to play wonderwall :)
bang on
You just can't say it any better than that.

When he sang "Backbeat . . . " I wonder how many (like me) had the sound of the cello in their minds?
I heard the cello and the drums!
its a mellotron not a cello
Comment Nigga it’s a cello, you can clearly hear it in the multi tracks.
no x42 Noel has said it himself that it’s a mellotron
@@LeterPerman where?
1:22, you’re welcome!
"we just came, cause were good a coming"
For anyone saying he’s playing the “wrong” chord, what do you mean, he literally wrote the song he just changed it.
The Studio version hás 3 layers of guitar playing different stuff, that is why people think it's wrong
@@emfraridades7261 he's also on record saying he had to change the key to suit Liam's voice, but this performance would be how he wrote it

its in the same key you big spastics. the strumming maybe has one more upstrum in the first bar other than that its exactly the same

But props to all you music folks who notice that...I’m just listening in a dreamy state
The canonical Wonderwall performance, none better, superlative! Glad this was recorded!
This absolute classic ended up being my wedding song too, epic
Ah. A simpler world when a good tune, some catchy chords and simple lyrics could pass for profundity.
Lovin how Noel just picks up his guitar and tinny and just trots off
This video of Noel Gallagher is quality and how good Wonderwall can be as a solo accoustic song!
First and best performance ( acoustically) !! thumbs up if your still watchin this in 2013 Oasis we need you back!!
I miss when Noel used to perform this style closer to the album than the miserable Ryan Adam's version instead

For god sakes... Ryan Adams version is a masterpiece! As the original is!
Never heard this performance before, great rendition from the man himself, cheers for this.
my gosh, that fucking guitar sounds so fucking fresh.
Sheer. Perfection. Love you, Chief!
this is so perfect
Wonderwall sounds good with Noel's voice too :)
I've got Robbie's jacket, I'm never wearing it again.
thats cool
Love this version. Amazing songwriter ... 3 chords and all memorable ... great emotion
6 chords
Wonderwall was 6 chords !
Some people would think 5 but there's an additional chord in the step down of ' would like to say to you '
What are you talking about? There's 4 just in the verse
Amazing forever ❤
it's easy to see his strumming in this vid. thanks!
The acoustic sound amazing! Warm/wet sound
the start of a legendary song,

i thiink wonderwall is the best vocal perfomance of the nineties. not my favourite song...but maaan that interpretation...amazing
they cud've reacted a bit more enthusiastically. The first time we'd ever heard one the best songs on one the best bands of all time.
ErniePi
Love how they spout all their bullshit "oh amazing artist, this is so cool etc" then they've forgotten about him by the end.
I love how Noel is dressed like an English pauper out of a Jack London novel every time he plays acoustically in the mid 90's.
how can a song be thaat perfect?
The first ever "anyway here's wonderwall"
That song in the 90’s, probably changed modern music forever.
It was a cool song. I liked it but at the time it was just another good song from an up and coming band. No one could foresee that it would become a classic.
If that were true, music today would be better
What about this simple ass song changed modern music lmao ?
I want go back in time
the 90s can anyone bring them back
The best

Rob went on to world domination for a short while. He was all over the radio. Massive infact. Just not my cup of tea. But many liked him so fair play.

Noel's complete dismissal of robin William's was telling
Think robbie was seriously depressed around this time. Especially when mark Lamar said here's a bloke we just brought in from outside
I didn't know Robin Williams was even there. RIP Robin. Loved you in Mork and Mindy.
Theres no doubt Wonderwall was overplayed and turned into a bit of a cliche but everytime you hear it you realise how fcking mega it is.
Epic!
one of the most played and easily recognizable songs on the planet along with MJs thriller, Fonsis despacito, gangam style

He also sings backing vocals on their version of cum on feel the noize that was the b side to don’t look back in anger , sorry
Dairy products, that's what got me here 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Ah the Deidre Rachid years
Haha what the? He plays "D'youknowwhatimean" instead here! (there is a slight difference in chords between the two) interesting he does that!

Nice guitar he use's. Natural stained Gibson SJ-200.
Dixie Hummingbird variant.
i know im late but its an epiphone i think, idk.
When Robbie and noel were mates.
Did he not play it at a gig in Sheffield first? After playing it he said the place fell quite... Thought I read that in a interview
He played Don't Look Back in Anger for the first time at Sheffield Arena back in april that year. Don't know what you mean by falling, though.
Jakub Popławski i think he's not English and he wanted to say "felt" instead of "fell" :)
