    I’ve been a dental repair technician for over 20 years and run my own business installing and repairing dental equipment. I really appreciate your comments.
    As a patient I have never had a cleaning with a Piezo. I have only had cleanings with a Cavitron. I really appreciate your input and I would really like to try a piezo in the future as I definitely have sensitivity with the Cavitron

    Pretty much you said the opposite of what I was taught and experienced. The cavitron tips I have found are thinner and the piezo seems to be more patient friendly. Yes, you want a halo or spray of water coming out of the tip not a stream. If you have the proper spray or halo, you will not have sensitivity and the tip will not heat up. Also, the piezo water in the patient’s mouth is less and the patient typically does not feel the water build up as much.

    You’re funny I like you. Honestly I would love to hold the saliva ejector during a cleaning. Again as a dental repair technician I understand what the equipment does and I understand that most patients do not understand. If I could hold the SE during my cleaning I think I would be more comfortable. I may suggest that to my hygienist next time!!

    How do you feel about using the prophy jet/cavijet when it comes to stains? You’re very knowledgeable how long have you been a hygienist?

    I font agree. I feel greater adaptability with the ultrasonic. Pixie are limiting due to their action. Ultrasonic has thinner tips The cavitation kills bacteria better.

      I find its still 50/50 some people prefer piezo and others ultrasonic. Thanks for commenting

    Lucky for us NDT Techs, metals don't mind when we use piezoelectric tools on them. Salute to all the Dentist near and far 🦷

    Hi. I have a severely autistic daughter. Our dentist retired. The new dentist has not been able to get into my daughter's mouth, in either of our two visits with the new dentist. My daughter has built up a lot of tartar during this time.
    We switched to a Sonicare toothbrush, which I hope will help stop further build up. I am able to get in her mouth myself, because she trusts me. I bought manual dental tools, and have been able to remove some of the tartar at home, albeit slowly, and not completely.
    Is there a at home cavitron type tool you would suggest? As my daughter is getting to a more adult size, it would be much easier for us, if I do most of the work at home. Then, the dentist can just check her mouth, and not traumatize her in the office.
    I am just trying to avoid having to go into the hospital, under anesthesia, to get her oral care done thoroughly. They don't want to give her anything in the office, (even laughing gas) because she was a micro-preemie. (14 years ago)
    Money is less of a concern, than her dental health, so even if it is expensive, I would be willing to try an at home machine.

    so what I am interested in is using the ultrasonic tool to clean up small details in glass casting - not the glass itself, just the layer of mold material that adheres when the piece comes out of the kiln. Think it will work?

    While using cavitron in tropical country like philippines it is more problematic during summer time due to hot temperature,the water coming fr our pipeline is already hot then passing thru the scaler handpiece ,patient will complain that the water temp is somewhat unbearable.

    low water is painful for the tooth.
    it should be stream of water and fine water spray will not clear the debris.

    • @dentalelle
      @dentalelle  5 років тому +2

      The correct answer from all the texts and teachings is a fine mist. Over pulsating water doesn't remove debris either, its a mix of the vibrations and water.

    do you experience a lot of back pain as a dental hygienist? because I have really bad back, so I am hesitant to become a dental hygienist.

    • @dentalelle
      @dentalelle  7 років тому +1

      I don't personally but I know some that too. It depends on posture, hours of work, yoga/massages. But, if you have a bad back already this profession won't help :(

      Get a loupe, that helps a lot.. Just make sure the loupes working distance/depth of field is long enough so you dont bend over to see the operating field .

    I was taught we never put tip of a cavitron insert on the tooth (only face, back, and laterals are to be used I was taught)

    Hi- Just curious, can you please cite your research? Is this commentary opinion or researched based? Is there any data or documentation you can share? Some of this is plausible, but you do not provide any sources for citation. I love the idea of what you're trying to express, but there is no definitive recommendation based on research or knowledge. May I ask for you professional, experienced -based opinion on air powder polishing procedures, (GBT)-start to finish? Thank you so much!

    • @postersm7141
      @postersm7141 4 роки тому

      lee penick I appreciate that. Most hygienist don’t do that because apparently hand scaling is too much work LOL

  • @manuelazarcon2603
    @manuelazarcon2603 Рік тому

    Cavitron is old type of scaler need more water to avoid the handpiece from overheating that why it is best to be use in western countries & this type of scaler is more durable & less trouble

    🤣🤣🤣 I make them hold the suction because they need to work. They already don’t do what they are supposed to at home. They work in my chair. There is no choice🤷🏻‍♀️

    The magnetostrictive doesnt have "more power". Its operator technique.

    • @dentalelle
      @dentalelle  6 років тому

      Eva Masters it has more power = rpm :)

    • @dentalelle
      @dentalelle  6 років тому

      Eva thank you but it DOES have more power. More RPM. Operator technique does play a part as well though

    • @engagingtragedy5895
      @engagingtragedy5895 6 років тому +4

      Nope, magneto is less actually. I teach instrumentation. They are around 18000-45000 cycles per min while piezo is 25000 to 50000 cycles per minute

    You don't say what country you're in.
    I would buy my own Cavitron, up to £2.5k if I could find a qualified Dental Hygienist to deep clean my teeth in my home every three months. (UK)
