After I had so much fun reacting to Airplane, you guys were wise enough to recommend another classic comedy with Leslie Nielsen. And let me tell ya, THE NAKED GUN: FROM THE FILES OF POLICE SQUAD (1988) did NOT disappoint.
🕵️♂️ Dive into the absurd and uproarious world of Lt. Frank Drebin as he bumbles through one ridiculous scenario after another, trying to prevent an assassination plot with his peculiar brand of policing.
🤣 Watch as I try (and fail!) to keep a straight face through the non-stop jokes and slapstick humor that have made this movie a comedy classic.

I still remember the night my Dad took me to see this movie in the theater in December of 1988 when it came out. I was 12. I was Just starting to get and understand adult humor. It was just my Dad and I.... the theater was packed.....
Everyone was falling off their chairs. Especially the scene where Frank breaks into Ludwig''s office and catches it on fire, and he's hanging off the balcony...... people in the theater were actually sliding off their chairs on to the floor, my Dad and I thought we were both going to literally laugh our guts out, we couldn't talk when we tried.
To this day it's by far my favorite comedy of all time. I have never laughed as hard at a movie.
I remember the night we went to go street see NG:33 1/2 at the drive-in. We were just getting ready to eat dinner and the chase of OJ in his Bronco had just hit the air. We watched it during dinner, and then watched OJ in the movie. I remember thinking it was a weird experience. When OJ first came on screen people started honking their horns and you could hear cheering.
Side note: The mayor is played by Nancy Marchand, AKA Tony Soprano's mother, Livia.
Yes! I realized this about halfway through the movie haha
She was also in "Brain Donors," a sort-of remake of the Marx Brothers' "A Night at the Opera." She played the Margaret Dumont role.
Speaking of which, if you like this style of comedy, I strongly recommend the classic Marx Brothers films. Start with "A Night at the Opera," "Duck Soup," and "Animal Crackers" (the order doesn't matter).
She was great on Lou Grant.
It isn't Naked Gun without Nice Beaver.
Priscilla ❤️
@@PUNKinDRUBLIC72 Thank you, I just had it stuffed.
@ Just make sure the "gun" doesn't go off.
They're eating pistachio nuts. They used to be dyed red.
“Mrs. Nordberg, we can save your husband’s arm. Where would you like it sent?”
Gets me every time. :-)
You cut the best line of the movie: "Nice beaver!", "Thanks, I just had it stuffed..."
Hey!!!! It's Enrico Palazzo!!!!!🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶... *also played Francis Pee Wee's neighbor in Pee Wee's Big Adventure
And the adult Stillwell at the end of A League of Their Own.

This movie is based on a TV comedy series that the producers of "Airplane!" created, called "Police Squad", that used the same style of humor as in "Airplane". Unfortunately, the network canceled the series after only 6 episodes, if I recall correctly. In that series the Frank Drebin character was created specifically for Leslie Nielson to be cast in that role. I believe episodes of "Police Squad" are available for viewing on You Tube.
It was canceled for having too make jokes. Not too many bad jokes. Not too many high brow jokes. Not too many low brow jokes. Just too many jokes. Give execs any chance to underestimate the TV audience, and they certainly will (and to be fair, sometimes it’s justified).
Who are you, and how did you get in here?
I'm a locksmith.... and i'm a locksmith.
The only thing better, entertainment wise, than absurdist humor is watching someone just throw themselves into enjoying it. I am going to love the next few minutes of my life. Thanks for the upload, Christy!
I love this movie so much!
@@CristyReacts On the off chance you haven't seen Monty Python and the Holy Grail, You'll love it just as much as this one and Airplane. I'd be shocked if you haven't already gotten a few hundred suggestions for it, but thought I'd add another one anyway. Hope you're having a great day.

we're both from the same hometown, Regina, Saskatchewan Canada;
my auntie owns the house Leslie & his family lived in until he was like 4 years old
& in 1995, Weird Al was here doing a concert,
& when I was born, Al held me before my parents did 😊
Great Christy!! Ok onward to Naked Gun 2 1/2. Excellent sequel. Then Naked Gun 33 1/3. And a once you liked the baseball so much, watch "Major League" another outstanding comedy. Thanks again for sharing.
For anyone who doesn't know, Leslie Nielsen didn't get into comedy until he'd already had a full blown career as a dramatic actor. Forbidden Planet (1956) is classic sci-fi and Leslie looks the exact same lol
Amazing
Leslie Nielsen is an International treasure surely. And don't call him Shirley
His brother Eric was a Canadian member of parliament and the deputy Prime Minister for a time.
@@Fred-vy1hm He represented the Yukon for almost 30 years in Ottawa.
I was fully gray at 45. But you're right. Leslie Nielsen was 62 years old and Priscilla Presley was 43.
I think Steve Martin might also like to have a word with Cristy about that. 😉
As someone who was fully gray, before his 50th birthday, let me tell you: no - you don't have to be 50 to be fully gray.
Nielsen was 62, Presley was 43.
After all, she was married to Elvis! Who had already been dead 11 years at the time.
P.S. I'm 51 and still fully brown 😛
Sheesh... what's with the relationship police? If they're both consenting adults and not harming anyone, I say let 'em canoodle all they like.
Thx, I just checked their respective ages as well, but since you already covered it, I don't need to take the trouble of writing that here now - just this considerably longer message to you. 😅
Yeah, I know a guy who was fully grey by the time he turned 35.
Everyone correctly gives Leslie Nielsen props but George Kennedy was another great actor who had a long career in drama before doing any comedy. If you want to see him in a classic watch Cool Hand Luke. It will show you Paul Newman as a young leading man also
I'd also recommend Thunderbolt and Lightfoot. Peace, all 💕
Also, Charade is a great movie with George Kennedy (and my favourite movie pair Audrey Hepburn and Cary Grant).
When Drebbin parks his car and it rolls down the parking lot and runs over a fire hydrant, that is a Los Angeles Department of Water and Power yard I worked at for years. One day a fake fire hydrant appeared in the parking lot and was gone several days later. I didn't understand why until I saw this movie
Since you paid respect to our beloved and departed Leslie Nielsen in your intro, google espn obituary enrico pallazzo. A fitting tribute for a remarkable man.
I didn't know that existed, thank you :)

Oh my goodness I love you laugh you’re probably already married and I’m too old but maybe we could spend the night together or something I’m a good man. Yeah I’m too old I give you he want and even more than you want and your laugh is infectious and you get everything about this movie Silly it’s right on point. It’s funny and you’re gonna laugh. Knocks me out it’s funny and sexy and you’re a real gem aren’t you
I’ll bet you’re already taken but I appreciate your laugh till the end of time …..
@ Yes sorry I'm taken. I'm sure any man would be lucky to have you though.
There's "Naked Gun 2 1/2", and "Naked Gun 33 & a 1/3rd", plus there's also Airplane 2 you can check out! My dad used to love these movies.
The sequels are pretty solid as well.
Also strong recommendations for Top Secret, Hot Shots, and Hot Shots : Part Deux.
I've heard great things about Top Secret!
@CristyReacts Same trio of writers/directors. Val Kilmer's first movie and he's freaking great. Even if every single joke doesn't land, the next one probably will.
And the TV series Police Squad.
Definitely Top Secret and Police Squad.
@@CristyReacts You absolutely need to watch Top Secret now that you’ve gotten started on the Naked Gun movies.
I must beg to differ, by 50 I had been fully grey for the better part of 2 decades. It just happened.
Leslie Nielsen was just perfect in this role, can’t envision anyone else playing the role as well as he did; bravo and RIP 👏
You should stick around during the end credits roll and read the texts 😂
There was a tv show also. I love how at the beginning they put the name of the episode on screen, but what the announcer says is the name at the same time, is totally different and unrelated. Cracks me up every time.
And the guest star gets killed off at the very beginning. Also, the guy that did those announcements came out of retirement to do them. "Police Squad, in color."
The entire credits scroll was loaded full of jokes
Comedy played straight is just so funny. This needs to be watched several times to get every joke especially those in the background.
You should watch another movie from the same team who made Airplane and The Naked Gun.
It's the 1984 comedy Top Secret and it has Val Kilmer in his first role.
Same type of comedy, it even has a higher count of jokes per minutes, it may well be their best movie.
Warmly recommended.
💯💯💯
After so many years, and countless viewings, this movie still makes me laugh! Thank you, Leslie Nielsen!
You cut the "nice beaver" scene?
WTH Cristy? LOL
That scene is iconic and has been quoted countless times by countless people over the years.
It wasn’t Cristy who cut that scene. That was the decision of the editor. :-)
@@bradleybradley4363 Thank you for clarifying.

You certainly have to watch "Top Secret!" seeing as the Zucker-Abrahams-Zucker humor hits you that strongly, it is amazing.

Alright then I will!

I know someone who started to grey when he was 14 and was completely white-haired by 19. Kept his hair basically forever. Really leaned into the Santa Claus look.
Who? Steve Martin?
@@rogeriopenna9014 A family friend. Not famous to my knowledge.
Nobody gets that the line about the mayor not wanting any more instances like the park. It was a reference to a Clint Eastwood classic "Dirty Harry" where they say a similar line to his tough cop character
The finger in the hot dog was the assassin who fell in the vat at the stockyard.
Yeah, some sharp eyes recognise the ring to start with.
This movie is actually based on a short run series called Police Squad, also starring Leslie Nielsen and spoofed detective shows from the late-60s onward. There are a lot of re-used jokes, but I still think the show is well worth watching.
“Let me know know if there’s any other films like this!”
Naked Gun 2 1/2
And naked gun 33 1/3!
RIP Leslie Nielsen.
You have brought laughs to generations and will be missed.
"Let er' rip."
If the Queen can drive trucks in WW2, she can toss a baseball. 😂
"The shell of the pistachio is naturally a beige color, but it may be dyed red or green in commercial pistachios. Originally, dye was applied to hide stains on the shells caused when the nuts were picked by hand. In the 21st century, most pistachios are harvested by machine and the shells remain unstained." I wondered why I don't see red-dyed pistachios anymore.
I loved your reaction! there are 2 more, "Naked Gun 2.5" and "Naked Gun 33/3" are hilarious as well.
Cristy, you are the only person I've seen get the Lady of the Worthless Miracle.😂😂😂😂😂
Kingpin is a very underrated comedy and really really funny.
Just think, the next time Cristy reviews a movie she could be watched.
If you loved this, you'll love Top Secret. It's right in your wheelhouse.
You should watch Top Secret, its from same time as Airplane, made by the same guys and the humor is same. Lead actor is a very young Val Kilmer.
Yes! It's on my list, probably next month!
@@CristyReactsAhhh excellent! Also plz don't forget about Hot Shots! 🤩
You need to watch the credits fully!!! there is hidden stuff in there thats a riot!!!
If you watch the _Police Squad!_ series (a fully epic total of 6 episodes, which I highly recommend), you’ll know why it’s a shame that they never went to get a shoeshine in this movie. The fact that it only lasted for those few episodes in 1982 also ties into why all the food in Frank’s apartment was long expired and his freezer wasn’t defrosted. He hadn’t been back there since the show was canceled. 😄
TOP SECRET is like this and Airplane... A must. lol
General Streck, German High Command: [talking on the phone] What is the condition of Sergeant Kruger?
[pause]
General Streck, German High Command: Very well, let me know if there is any change in his condition.
[Hangs up]
General Streck, German High Command: He's dead.
For the same type of humor, check out Used Cars (1980) and The Ref (1994). Neither one is well known but funnier than hell.
You won't be disappointed.
The Ref is a good movie, obscure and underappreciated, but well worth watching, but it is not the same type of humor as "The Naked Gun" at all.
So many people miss the ankle bracelet joke in that it was a wrist bracelet that somehow made its way from that location to its new one.
Nice beaver.
Thank you, I just had it stuffed.
The man in the role of the driving instructor is the acclaimed actor, John Houseman. About the time this movie was made he was making commercials for the investment firm Smith-Barnry. At the end of each commercial Houseman would say, "When they talk people listen."
You’re thinking of EF Hutton’s tagline. The Smith-Barney one (which Houseman did) was “They make money the old-fashioned way… they _earn_ it.”
@0okamino You're right, I got the lines confused. My apologies to Mr. Houseman.
One of the best most overlooked movies in this genre is "Top Secret". Val Kilmer doing Elvis. It's brilliant, and the music is amazing
Hello Cristy!😊 Priscilla Presley was 43 years old at the time of this filming. She is Elvis' ex-wife. Leslie Nielsen was 62 years old. His hair went white prematurely starting in the 1960s.😉 Great fun reactions to this silly comedy. Cristy!!!!🎬👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 There are two sequels to this movie, just as silly!😆😉
what a GREAT REACTION! 🤣 this was SO MUCH FUN, THANK YOU! 👍😁
Watching you laugh so much to this was brilliant 😂😂😂
It's such a funny movie!
Up until the late 80s or they would dye some varieties of pistachios red to cover up blemishes. The dye would come off on your fingers and lips. They were eating the nuts and throwing the shells out of the window. This joke goes over most reactor's heads.
The movie Top Secret is this type of comedy, with a young Val Kilmer as the star.
Your laugh is more contagious than the jokes in the movie. Thank you 😂👍
They were eating pistachios on the stakeout and they used to dye the shells red. Stained lips.
If this is your kind of humor, then Top Secret with Val Kilmer is right up your alley.
If you haven't seen the Austin Powers movies, they're pretty funny. There's also a funny British movie that often gets ignored: Johnny English.
Queen Elizabeth did attend an American baseball game in 1991. I'd like to think that it was because of this movie.
I have a friend that was completely gray haired in his late 20's. Loved the reaction.
the Naked Gun trilogy was made before OJ Simpson's trial of the century in 1995...fun fact is actress Susan Beaubian who plays OJ's character's wife also plays the jury foreperson in American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson! also in style!
Everyone always cites Airplane as the best of these absurdist comedies, but I would put Top Secret (1984) ahead of it by a wide margin. Prop budget must have been insane on that movie.
Don't know this Mr / Ms Everyone you're referring to, Airplane has always been the bottom of my list. I've seen it a couple of times, last time not too long ago and I remembered pretty quickly why I had not binged it like the Naked Guns, or Hot Shots, or indeed Top Secret.
They used to dye pistachios red.
The baseball player who tries to assassinate the queen is Reggie Jackson(Mr. October)a famous ball player
21:16 Lesley Neilson was 62 years old in this film...19 years older than Priscilla Presley. But regarding his hair, he was fully grey by the time he was 34 years old.
*Leslie Nielsen
RIP to Enrico Pallazzo
Oh, and I don’t know about the characters’ specific ages, but as far as the actors- when this movie was made Leslie Nielsen was 62 and Priscilla Presley was 43.
I love everyone’s reaction to seeing OJ Simpsons name in the credits. 😂😂
Hi Christy! You said in the outro that you want more movies like this. If you like over-the-top, silly, goofy movies loaded with puns and visual gags, I'm surprised you have not yet reacted to anything by Mel Brooks! Check out any of his movies ..... Spaceballs, Robin Hood: Men In Tights, Blazing Saddles, Dracula: Dead and Loving It, History of the World: Part I, Young Frankenstein ... you'll love them all! 🤣
The sequel to this is Naked Gun 2 1/2 The Smell of Fear. It continues on where this one left off... sort of.
@cristyreacts I take it that fake who claimed to be you wasn't you since "her" comment was taken down.
Another movie from ZAZ that flies a little under the radar is "Top Secret", but it's every bit as good as Airplane! and the Naked Gun. Definitely worth a watch.
Another great movie made by the same people that made this and "Airplane" is "Top Secret" (1984) it stars Val Kilmer (it's his first movie). And it's the same kind of humor. It's hilarious!
Leslie Neilson used to play only straight roles. He's the quintessential leading man type, especially in his younger days. Tall, good looking, deep voice, etc.
It was only when he started doing comedy at this point, that he got really famous - at least with the generation of that time. He should have done that stuff earlier!
7:00 - Caracas is in Venezuela, not Panama. I would have thought that Christy, being from Colombia, would have picked up on that.
Ohh I was too busy focusing on Wilma's outfit!
@@glennjpanting2081 to be fair, there a lot of jokes that aren’t noticed the first time anyone watches this. Or the second or third.

11:31 it's not an ankle bracelet, it's a regular one that goes on the wrist.
This movie is just non stop😂 you should go back and read the credits at the end of the movie, there's a ton of joke names and jobs in there that are hilarious. Hope to see you finish the trilogy
You know you’re in for a wild ride when you are watching a comedy directed by the same guys who made “Airplane!” The Naked Gun is actually based on a short-lived 1982 TV series called “Police Squad.”That show was also created by David Zucker, Jim Abrahams, and Jerry Zucker as a spoof of police procedural dramas. It even stared Leslie Nielsen as Lt. Frank Drebin, who returns playing the same character he did on Police Squad. The theme and intro for this movie was heavily inspired by the show.
Oh by the way, the Angels right fielder who is hypnotized to kill the queen is non-other than Reggie Jackson. He is a legendary baseball player known as “Mr. October” for his clutch hitting in the post-season. He won five World Series during his time with the Oakland Athletics and New York Yankees. He also won two World Series MVPs (1973 & 1977), the American League MVP (1973), two Silver Slugger Awards (1980 & 1982), and was a 14-time Major League Baseball All-Star.

well, police academy falls into the same line of humour.
I've seen this question asked by many You Tubers watching this movie. Younger people don't remember Red Pistachio Nuts. Sometime after this movie was out the FDA banned the Red Dye #5 as a possible Cancer link. Now all you can get are the Plain ones.

Great reaction, Cristy like always. I love this movie, and Leslie Nielsen is epic. This movie is based off the short-lived show "Police Squad!" from 1982, where the Frank Drebin character was originated by Leslie Nielsen. It was cancelled by ABC after only four of the six episodes aired. Apparently it was because you really had to pay attention to the show to catch a lot of the humour in the show. Sounds like a weird reason for cancellation, doesn't it?
There are some fun-facts about it. John Houseman as the driving instructor. He was one of the most significant figures in American theater. Along with Orson Welles he co-founded the Mercury Theatre, and co-produced Citizen Kane. He was the first head of the Drama Division at the Julliard School. He founded The Acting Company with members of the first graduating class of the Julliard acting program, including Patti LuPone, Kevin Kline, David Ogden Stiers, and a dozen others. In his long career he produced or directed some forty Broadway plays and thirty-three films. It was John Houseman’s final film role It was only rather late in life that he began acting.
The red things, that Frank and Ed were eating in the car, were pistachios. There are conflicting stories as to why, but the shells were dyed red here in the States; that practice started dying off during the '80s. That was a big pile of pistachio shells outside Frank's car door.
Priscilla Presley (She was married to Elvis) had never done comedy before. She was cast by ZAZ for the same reason that other actors mostly known for serious roles were put in their movies: it makes the dry parody even funnier. Presley had worked on the show Dallas. Zucker often quipped that the only problem with her was when her ex, Elvis, visited the set.
The terrorist organization that Frank attacks and beats up in the opening scene was written as a nod to S.P.E.C.T.R.E., the terrorist organization in the James Bond film franchise. The theme song of this movie was played at nielsen’s funeral. Nielsen passed away on November 28, 2010 at the age of 84 and was laid to rest in Fort Lauderdale. Dominik Hauser’s theme played as the Canadian Mounted Police carried his coffin. Keep up the good work.
