I wonder, are these candidates actually convinced they can win, do they think that even if they can't win, running will boost their issues or do they have some ulterior motive?
Gets their feet wet and some name recognition in some spaces. They are too small to cause disruption in the Republican base as most of them seem to be Bush era conservatives. Ego also plays a large part
I'd imagine it's mostly "The issues I value are important and running for President will get some (if limited) publicity that might convince the candidates that have a chance to adopt them."
I think we need to start factoring media coverage when discussing how much money a candidate has. Donald Trump had over a billion dollars worth of free media coverage which wasn't included when calculating the amount of money his campaign had/spent. We cannot underestimate the role of the media in choosing the president. The media chooses who to platform, who to take seriously, what ideas are allowed in the public space. And since media is a for-profit business, they will platform ideas that help them first and foremost.
I think that a lot of these strong, control-minded candidates miss the importance of our balance of power. Congress still has the power of the purse, and so shifting those representatives to the Executive agenda is how to affect American legislation and spending. We never hear about that from most candidates, front-runners or not.
They know. No one wants to hear I will sign the bill if congress passes it so make sure you vote in every congressional election. So you must tell them you will solve all their problems.
“All three candidates had important differences with trump, which makes sense because otherwise they probably wouldn’t be running against him” Tell that to Vivek Ramaswamay
I'd point out that the current Vice-President of the United States dropped out of the 2020 primaries before her home state could vote- or not- for her.
Wow there’s even more long shot candidates then I had realized. And I follow politics 😅
Never underestimate the tide of 'Concerned Businessmen'. The Board may no longer want them, but the realm of politics is a great place to retire in.

Boosts profile for other offices

They’re narcissists
@@EpicuriousGeorge But that's also true of all the candidates who can win lol. You have to be a bit crazy to want to be president.

Perry Johnson just qualified for the first debate so he's got more of a shot now
Connor Roy was interested in politics from a very young age
Who?

538 will talk about these nobodies but haven't said a peep about Marianne Williamson
They had a whole podcast segment on her months ago. You must not watch 538 much.
They have, also she's running against the incumbent Joe Biden who's still popular so it makes it even more unlikely.
Good story, Nathaniel! Adds more depth to coverage of the presidential race.
