    • @tonyparr312
      @tonyparr312 3 роки тому +1

      I fully agree with your comments except for the use of the word cast (caste). That term has no meaning in Sherpa society. The caste system is a purely Hindu concept. The Sherpa people belong to a distinct ethnic group having migrated from Tibet some 500 years ago. Before you reply that I don't know what I'm talking about you should know that I am married to a Sherpani who was also a qualified mountain guide.

    I've been to mount Everest. I tried to climb to the top and I received a lot of help from the locals. I somehow became the main attraction and word of my presence there circulated rather quickly. However, I never made it to the top. It was just too cold and my skin was beginning to just crack and I had open wounds due to the cold. Weather is so unlike my native Congo. I can the heat, not the cold.

    Hoping someday , those children of theirs , sent school to obtain higher education for better job & opportunities , by their parents risking their life & some died , will make the majority if not all on those villages. That means , to be sherpas / porters is optional on that generation, no longer completely dependent .
    Happy to see on this docu , women started to explore their horizon and seeing their worth beyond. Just hoping other options opens up for them besides being Everest climbing.
    Im just wondering of any existence of insurance for sherpas & porters.
