It was the first time ever I've put my hands into an engine, and even as an electronics/computer guy, I was able to fix my 2009 Toyota 2.0 Avensis (T27) thanks to you. Procedure is the same, and you're a very good teacher. Thank you ! Notes: - I was able to do it without removing the cable at 11:45 so I didn't need to put the car on a lift. - At 15:19, I removed only the two nuts and the bolt at the front, not the one at the back (seems to me it is not holding the part we are changing) - When at 18:49 you put back the new Valve Matic unit, it is possible that the holes for the locking pin are not matching. They have to be perfectly aligned for the pin to get in. The Valve Matic unit works by moving the control axis back and forth (that you can see at 17:08, from bottom left corner of the screen) , and I had to move it a bit using a big screwdriver as a lever
I Have the same model Auris and need to change the valvematic controllers aswell. I was wondering What ”number” you Have on your valvematic controller? And do you know whether or not you can use both ”222A0-37023” and ”222A0-37025” or just the ”-37023” one?
Hello, excellent job! Can you please tell is valvematic adaptation is required after changing it to a new one? sorry if it was told in the video and i missed it
Raul, damn, I was just reading the comments and discovered you’re in Hyde, after speaking to the mechanic who did a poor job fitting the valvematic controller, he removed the camshaft and doesn’t know how to time it back up as I’ve got a permanent cylinder 3 misfire now! any pointers, advice? Cars not drivable with the cylinder 3 misfire. can you set the camshaft timing? I’ll have to get it brought to you on a recovery truck. I’m praying there’s no valve - piston damage! 😢
Hi mate to be honest I dont do the timing chain jobs on cars because I found out they never go right or something messes up. If it was cam belt no problem.
Hi brother, i think you have done this job with in a day that awesome. I have auris 2011 1.6 with the same issue warning lights and show P1047 and P1049 error code. Do you know what might be the issue .. i can drive now, but sometimes the warning lights are on, and sometimes there are no warning lights.. please help
Very good video,i have 2010 1.8 avensis that has gone into limp mode,my handbrake and engine and skid light are on yellow colour, checked the code it reads uo11b rocker arm control module A.communication signal lost, any ideas could this be the valvematic packed in.i took my oil filler cap off pre this i could here a knocking coming out of the oil filler hole.thanks.
Hello friend, how are you? I have a 2013 toyota auris, a query gave me two codes P1047 and P264A, the problem is that when I'm running the acceleration drops and when I accelerate it goes up slowly up to 3 revolutions... which suggests changing the valvematic
Can you please tell me what were the symptoms of the problem you were repairing? I have a 2013 Toyota Avensis with the 1.8 litre Valvematic engine and manual gearbox. There are no fault codes, but when I start the engine from cold and start driving, when I shift into neutral or press the clutch pedal, the idle speed surges 5-10 times (from about 750rpm to 1250rpm up and down) before settling down. It then idles perfectly until the next cold start. My local Toyota dealer inspected it and suggested replacing the Valvematic controller, but it's extremely expensive and they can't guarantee that's what's causing the problem.
Sorry mate I replied back to the wrong message. On this car the engine management light came on and the car use to go into limp mode. But when the management came on if you turn the car off for few mins about 5mins then start it up it use to be fine for about a week then it use to do the same again. So I replaced the vvti valve at first didnt do the job. Then i replaced the valvematic control unit. So far it's done the job. But please bear in mind it might not be that it could be the chain gone loose.
Hello. Is this a common fault? I have The faultcodes P1047, U011B. How do i know if this part is faulty? Can i mesure or something or do som sort of diagnostic before i change it?
I heard it is a common fault. To be honest I replaced the little camshaft vvti valves at first but no joy. Then replaced the valvematic control unit so it was process of elimination. If it still didn't do the job then it would have been the timing chain
Hello, please if you can solve the problem I have on my Auris Toyota year 2014, after repairing my CVT box, 3 weeks later, I have the Engine check with the ESP on, after scanning i got 2 error codes, P1047 and p264, please tell me the exact fault, please give me a reply, thanks again
Thanks for watching really appreciate it. To be honest its impossible for me to tell you exactly what's wrong with it without looking at it. But with that fault code it could the vvti solenoid valve, or the valvematic control unit or even the timing chain fault. Start with engine oil and oil Filter replacement and flush
Where are you based? I’ve got the dreaded P1047 and P1049 just today the car was struggling to accelerate 2ZR FAE engine import Toyota. I wondering it if it’s the timing chain as the engine ran mint.
Thanks Raul for the reply, i’m based Lancashire if you’re not too far from me I’d be happy to bring it down for you to do the valvematic job if new solenoids and oil change don’t rectify. I’ve sourced potential used valvematic units as the new ones are financially unfeasible for me at present and would cause the cost to go beyond what I’m willing to throw at the car.
Raul, I took the car into the garage as I couldn’t be asked working on it outside in this weather, told the mechanic to watch your video as he’d never done one before, rang him late in the day and the lo and behold guy didn’t watch the video and ended up pulling the camshaft out! Now he’s stumped how to place the camshaft back so the timing is spot on, he’s gonna try in the morning but I got a feeling it’s gonna sideways! Where are you based? I need a back up mate.

Would have been impossible to attempt without this excellent run through
Had some hassle getting the pin back through. Unit needs to be tightened on first to compress the rubber seal. Took me ages. You live n learn!
Just did the same job on a 2010 Toyota which blessing...keep doing u thing God bless u and the team

If you drop the pin when removing the vvL controller it’s gonna be a pain to get it back?
What caused the replacement of the unit

This job will cost about £150 labour

I never did just replaced it and Reset it.
