Netwrap Issues--what's up with this bale?

  • It's August and we're racing to finish baling first crop before our barley, oats and second crop need harvesting. Slowing our progress is a nagging issue with netwrap on our new-to-us New Holland Rollbelt 450 baler.

In grassy hay I've found my New Holland Round Baler needs more wraps per bale. Also weaving while baling does help. I also went to a rotary rake which has made a big difference.

You need to put more tension on the break linkage that stops the net wrap roll to get that wrap to snap. If the hay is to damp the net can stick to the floor roller. I have had that happen and the bale never tied . Then you have to cut the wrap off the rollers and try again. Try to get your core formed and square up as fast as possible. I use 3 1/4 wraps solved my issues. When you change rolls always put your tail in the center of the duck bill so it will pull even hope that helps.

I had same issue my problem was I wasn't putting enough on. I set at 3.5 and it's putting 3 wraps on. Baled 800 of hay and straw no issues. Was going the deal it in but fine now and better yet almost paid for. Also some wrap works better than others. I like the Deere wrap but I use others as well. Cheers.

We figured it out. Roll not centered. My fault.

i tried to use some from TSC. Bad move! when it finally got the net cut, it had strings all the way across about 4 feet long.

Seems like a lot of parts that are made overseas are on back order. I think those knives are made in Austria. Windrow size and length of cut can make a big difference. Maybe wouldn't hurt to check if there is any chaff in by the bale chamber sensors, I had that this summer too. Good luck!🤞

Lots of parts still in containers, on shops, anchored off the coast... Freaking stupid 🙄

Had the same thing happen, check your roller just above your feeder bars for scratches or burs, any rough surface on that roller will pick up the net wrap and snag it. I found very light scratches on my roller and used a pad sander to smooth them out and that seemed to solve the issue.

Hey bud, I'm thinking that your net wrap needs to be moved more to the other side of the baler. Or let's say centered better. I had the odd bale do that on mine but I moved the roll over only 2 holes with the pin and no more issues. Hope this helps ya out

    • @Rollinghillsfarmsmn

Thanks much. That is exactly what was wrong. I must have slammed the roll on too hard and jumped the clip over a couple of slots.

You don't weave from side to side! You drive straight filling one side for a while then the other side then finish filling the centre last. Always have the crop going into the centre of the pickup at netting as the net tightens on the last bit of crop being fed into baler and will help stretch net out over bale. You are inclined to be driving more on the left fill that side of the baler and that is why the net is perfect on that an loose on RHS. Net types vary and sometimes the lesser net is more flexible and will correct itself in the chamber but strong net won't. Tighten up the brake on net as it might pull it out wider. Been baling 30 years and nothing as madding as fluffy edged bales.

Turns out netwrap got pushed on too hard and popped the clip over four places. Made it bunch up on the one side and tear every ten bales or so. Re centered the roll and immediately corrected the issue on the next hundred bales. Those windrows were so wide in the video they filled the entire pickup. Weaving would have just left hay on the field. In later thin rows I did weave but it didn’t help. That’s how I discovered the net roll out of place.

Haytalk has alot of good info for future problems. Nice hay looks like might be more of a challenge this year with all the snow we getting in great white north mn.

Thanks. Looks like we’ll have plenty of ground moisture for sure. Interesting to see of precip continues to drop at the same pace we’re seeing so far in 23. Tough to get three drying days.

Need to replace the black sawtooth looking part of the duckbill with a heavier replacement they make now. That helps a lot. Also use the heaviest net wrap you can. It cuts cleaner and feeds better the next baler. Vermeer netwrap works really well, but is expensive, I have used pritchett for several years at it works pretty good.

I have a brand new Case baler that jams hay above the string knife guard, it caused the net to go around the jam and miss the left side of the bale. I'm removing the guard and knife to solve the problem. I don't use the string option anyway.

Same ish problem with a JD unit. All that net wrap that is missing is on the rollers! Wet hay??? Found talc powder on the roller and cleaning the machine helped.

We figured it out thanks to suggestions from UA-cam. I had pushed the new roll on too hard and popped the keeper over four slots making the roll off-center. Re-centered it in the next video and it works now.

@@baynebrown8914 It was tearing. I had it misaligned in the baler allowing it to catch on the edge of the carriage.

Definitely nothing to do with windrow size like your dealer suggests. Your using different colour net in the video Is your netwrap centred on the drum? I have had a RB180 do that. Also will do it if there is something caught on the upper rollers

    • @Rollinghillsfarmsmn

Thanks for watching. I solved the issue on my baler by carefully centering the net roll. Turns out I had pushed the new roll on too hard and popped the clip over three spaces. Look behind the roll as it passes over the top roller before dropping into the duckbill and make sure it’s exactly the same on each end. I showed the fix in the next couple of videos. Good luck.

Thanks for the advice. We actually discovered the problem was due to misalignment of the net roll. I had pushed the roll on too hard and jumped the centering clip three positions to the right. We fixed it in a later video.
