The first fight ended in a stalemate because it was Knuckles AND Eggman vs Sonic and Tails (Eggman helped Knuckles by distracting Sonic, Tails helped battling Knuckles) and the fight wasn't conclusive, the last fight didn't have a clear winner, since the fight could have continued with sonic dodging the rock if Eggman hadn't distracted them.
