Listen real close and you'll hear roosters crowing up the red prairie dawn threaded all through the tune. Garry once commented how the natural "music" of a farmhouse dawn up on the prairie figured large in hatching that tune in his head. That little tag at the end of the first line of the B part is just as rooster as it gets. It's his fiddle interpretation of what a red prairie dawn can often sound like. Methinks he nailed 'er purty good.
I have the album. I would look for Garry's daughter to see whether she has any copies or else to John Hatton's Cleff'd Ear. I know that Gen has reissued Dear Old Illinois.
Irons Massacre...great to flat dance, alone, livingroom, stoned, two or three times.
It would be great if more recordings from this album were posted
