    After trying everything, (disconnect onstar, radio,seats,etc.) to stop battery drain I realized that wet carpets from past leak was the problem due to electric connections underneath seat. After leaving all doors open, under a carport, during the heat of summer for about 2 weeks the carpet finally dried out completely. The battery drain stopped. It stays under cover now, only driven on dry days.

    Thanks so much for this information, Brother. That's EXACTLY what's happening to my 2004 H2. I've been wondering what's been the issue.

    If you have a battery killing drain that occurs sometimes, not all the time, check your interior dash head light switch. The switch has a wheel type dimmer control it should feel tight with no wobble. As the switch ages, it can cause a drain and kill your battery. I am not sure, but I believe it is due to the dimming wheel getting loose and a little wobbly. The looseness of the wheel can cause a constant internal connection that will kill your battery. It is an intermittent drain and battery killer because when you use the wheel sometimes the wheel position is left in the correct position and other times it if left in the wobbled offset position that causes the draining. If you are not sure about your switch, just change it. It is not expensive and at least you can rule it out.

    I have been working on a 2006 Hummer H2. It now has a new battery, alternator, all fuses and relays, drive belt (it needed it), and it still drains at night after resting 7 or more hours. I'm going to check on this tomorrow.
    Edit: The owner of the Hummer added a Viper alarm just like the one you described. And every 3 months, like clockwork, there's a battery issue. I'll check that too, and update later.

      I learned that in the past some installers always warned me about older viper alarms not being installed properly and eventually become battery eaters.

      @@dailydrivenH2 well the viper alarm has been eating it... it happened again today and after following all the wires, I found the viper alarm box under the steering column. Problem is once its disconnected, the only way to open the doors is manually and the owner doesn't like that. We are going to see over night if disconnecting the alarm is the problem (or part of it since I still haven't been able to remove the Ostar).

    2005 Hummer H2: I am planning to remove my OnStar unit to add a switch panel or pocket. I am thinking that I should not pull the VCM fuse (Fuse for OnStar), as it might be needed for other systems. Does anyone know if the VMC is used for anything other than the OnStar.

    So just unplug the wires to the onstar ? What about the fuse?

      Once you unplug the wires on the back of unit your good.. You can leave the fuse where its at.. 👍

    I have a 2007 H2 with ON STAR, I would rather have a switch facia or CB Radio or PA System in that slot... I never use ON STAR, is there any reason I should not just yank it and put something else in that hole?

    I have an OS-2Bose for the after market head unit. Green led stays on so mine may be a RAP or BCM issue. I will still remove the onstar crap anyway. Those 12v/cig lighter wires are a bitch to get on/off if you don’t remove the shifter cover first.

      Hace tiempo cuando casi nadie tenia cell valia la pena tener el servicio de onstar basicamente te da tu propio numero de telefono para el carro si tienes un accidente grande el systema llama al 911 solo , te ayudan si estas perdido con direcciones y tambien si te roban el carro te pueden ayudar a encontrarlo . por todo eso se paga una mensualisad , en algunos carros ya viejos ese systema no funciona y se come la battery algunas beses por eso quite el mio .

    I’m not saying it’s not possible. But I have owned several old gm’s never upgraded onstar. If all the old onstars did this there would be a crap ton of gms eating batteries. Sounds like your gm was molested which caused a multitude of issues. If you are chasing a draw, take out fuses that you can track. Once you narrow down the block in question you can find the issue. Found a bad pigtail this way

    • @dailydrivenH2
      @dailydrivenH2  8 місяців тому

      Its been a known issue for onstar to kill the battery on older vehicles for years ask any older gm tech and he’ll tell you .

    • @AG-tm3yc
      @AG-tm3yc 8 місяців тому +1

      Again I’m not saying it couldn’t I’m saying do your due diligence. Onstar should only look for a signal if activated. I have 2 gms in my driveway 04 and 05 with analog onstar. I’m sure there are other factors with the vehicles with voltage issues as gms are persnickety.

    • @dailydrivenH2
      @dailydrivenH2  8 місяців тому

      @AG-tm3yc the old analog onstar module is always looking for a signal that will never find cause it was shut down after gm started to offer the upgraded units to transition to digital signal.all the module needs is power to be constantly looking for a signal weather it was activated or not . Back in the days it was a normal piece of advice from the service guys to tell customers assuming your onstar is the issue just jank the unit out or just pull the power cable from behind the module and you be all set )
