Jon's 2016 Subaru Forester | sgCarMart Reviews

- Today Jon reviews his own car which he bought a few years ago - a fourth generation Subaru Forester. The "SJ" designation of the Subaru Forester was first launched in 2013 and then facelifted in 2016. At the point of purchase, Jon thought this was a sensible decision to make. Has he changed his mind since then?

Have seen many foreign and local car reviews for years, these guys were one of the best I have seen even though they are not as professional as some overseas presenters. However, I found myself looking forward to their videos on their channels simply because they are honest, unbiased, unpretentious and realistic in what they do. Keep up the good work and thumbs up for our own local team!
We need more long term reviews like this.
good review. Have had my XT since 2016. Loved it still
I bought the same batch as yours Jon, still a will buy for me. Back then it was priced similarly to the XV which was on SGP but I picked this nonetheless. Hauled two foldable bikes, a kid cycle, two kick scooters and family of six. I’d say this car is really cannot hiam.. It was my first CVT but it grown on me, I’m happy for a car this size can manage 7.6l per 100km for me👌🏽
Great video . Explains why there's so many Foresters on the road! Compared to CX-5 for an example
Nice! Loved the honest review!
Maybe review popular 2nd hand PARF and COE cars?
Say, like Pre-2020 Vezel or 10 year old IS250?
Great honest review Jon. This is better than the usual new car review. More used car review please. Maybe car at 5year mark when their warranty has expired.
Hi Jon, thanks for your review! can you guys do a review of the kia stonic mild hybrid variant? it seems to be quite an affordable 1 litre car.
Great review 👍
Thanks for sharing your personal car experience here. As usual love the reviews especially the recent Skoda Octavia one :)
Great review on this practical car! I got mine in 2018 as well for family reason, Subaru's focus on safety and it's definitely bang-for-the-buck! Got rid of body roll n pick up (ECU) to make the car more easy for daily drives.
It's usually a hard decision moving to the next car from an SUV. So would look forward to a review on your next car and reasons you chose that!
Good review. Can u guys do one on second hand continental cars. Like the VW passat 2018 or the skoda octavia 2019 model.
Yes 2nd hand car review is great. And the reliability info is very valuable. I'm keen on the forester, great car. I'm keen on older camry v Accord... Civic, e class, crv
Yes more or this type of reviews!
very good and honest review. it will be interesting to have a used suzuki vitara reviewed
Nice one. Did the all steering wheel controls work with the new Head Unit ? Tks
I bought the XT in 2016 and am still driving it now. Agree with all the points made by Jon, such as the problem with the aircon and lower arm bushes, except Jon did not mention two relevant points: 1) AWD - I do find that the Forester is not as slippery as other 2WD cars when the road is wet. 2) Fuel consumption - It is poor (I manage about 8.5km/L with a 50/50 mix of city and highway).
Unfortunately, the new Forester model does not come with Turbo. If not, my next car will be another Forester.
nice review 2016 Subaru Forester ...
mantap ...
Wow! $97k is a steal. But it is true though, coupled with clearance and Low COE hovering between $20++-$30k ish COE period. Lucky you! Late 2016-2017 owners are coughing out at least $110k and above for exact same model. Haha 🙈
I own a White Subaru Forester 2019! I love it a lot too!
Waiting for Julian to review his civic next!! :)
next car to review is Julian's Civic XD
Hi, can review used small hatchbacks like Honda Fit? Thanks!
Hi Jon, how bout reviewing a Honda Crossroad? It's old but it's one of its kind. Honda 7 seater SUV with 1.8 lt engine inside a sturdy boxy body. For a renewed COE car I saw quite a number going on sale in SG Carmart. In fact I own one and willing to lend for the review (just to keep this unique car alive before they're gone). Really love this tofu, Cheers !
Yes can try review the smaller engine come equipped with turbos type of cars!
I drive a 2013 Forester XT and was quite impressed by the power and speed. You should have bought a XT then, cause it also uses the FA20 2.0 litre engine but it had a turbo. Although it just recently got a head job at motorimage for $4k plus, I still think the turbo is the way to go for forester. I bought the XT 2nd hand at $66k in 2018 and it had not given me much problems except for the oil and transmission leak which i suppose happened to all subaru as the engine is horizontal and all the oil just sit there in the head gasket area. Thinking of upgrading the turbo and intercooler as after driving for a few years, felt that at low end the power is not that much ^_^
This generation Forester reviewed in this video probably looks the best and balance. The new Forester looks ungainly all round.
what is the 7 seater cvt competitor Jon was talking about?
Please review on 2015 Honda Odessey EXV-S model!
Can also review Julian as well as other crew’s car?
I just bought a 2017 Forester 2.0i and i find it to be quite bumpy. Is this normal?
Can you do a Nissan X-trail and other mid size SUVs?
Hi bos, the sunroof windows can open or not?
Can you review the BMW 318i sport?
When the hospital called me that another car just collided
into it was so confident that all of them will be ok. My wife and my niece survived but her mother and her sister both seated at the backseat were both killed instantly.
Hey where can i get that android/apple play?
Can you review 2008 CR-V?
Engine oil how many litres used for oil change 5w -30
Loving the depression in the backseat! hallmarks of baby car seats...
How's your Fuel Consumption? Boxer engines are known to be thirsty. Share your views on your FC versus other similar competitions.
nice and honest review Jon. I was in exact situation as you in 2018 and I ended up with the newly launched i30 instead of the budget Forester which had no eyesight then. So now it's 3.5 yrs later and I'm looking for a bigger space suv for family use too - am curious what u purchased next, after the SJ.
Not sure what I’ll car I’ll go for, but I will most likely get a sedan haha.
- Jon
@@sgcarmartreviews if it's a sedan, I will guess maybe its a more spacious family size sedan like the Camry Hybrid. why? cos its newer tech, but ... still a CVT too! In any case, keep us posted :)
@@tionghinong mayb subaru levorg ?
used conti coe cars will be great. see how well the premium features back then stack up against the cars of today
First time I'm late, youtube never send notifications
Pls review Toyota Harrier elegance or Kia Carens
Why all car manufacturers going touch screen instead of physical buttons? Well cos is cheaper and easier to wire up these digital stuff than the old analogue buttons.
Woah cool! My first car was also a Hyundai i30 2009.
Now driving a Nissan Serena cause got 3 young kids already! Hahaha
Pls review vw tiguan thanks
pls review cx 5
I think you might have missed your 🚗 camera's and sensor
Agreed with the wife buying lot's of things 😂
You never show the huge sunroof. No other car at that price has this huge sunroof.
Same bro, hate CVT so much
Hi Jon, could you indulge me what brand infotainment are you using?
It’s the Kenwood DMX9720!
@@sgcarmartreviews Thank you 🙏🏼
Not "some problems" - every Subaru's aircon tended to have problems surface in the 3rd year. Sigh.
50k can or not?
Why never consider the XT back then?
XT was priced around 140k back then IIRC, so it was way out of budget.
- Jon
@@sgcarmartreviews when I bought my XT in 2016, it was only $10k+ more expensive then NA.
You should have bought a Citroen C4 Grand Picasso
Hahahahaha. No.
- Jon
Video will be 20 mins longer due to the problems he needs to explain in a Citroen.
Wait. So for the sgcarmart quotz, I bid $200000 for your forester and I back out, sgcarmart quotz will then buy from u $200000?
Only registered car dealers are able to put in a bid and it’s the lowest winning offer. So even if you put 200k, the next lowest bid was 75k, the winning bid will be just above 75k. This is to prevent abuse.
- Jon
so is it 2016 or 2018? confused now.
I bought it in 2018 but the model itself was a 2016 facelift.
- Jon
What is he talking about...
