Over 30 years later and vigo still give me the creepys. I feel like he was the best evil character in the ghostbusters franchise.
Vigo was so creepy. I don't get why people didnt like him as a villain
Us Trekkie's thought it was cool
It was more that people didn't like that the movie was targeted more towards children than it was to fans of the first movie. All because of the real ghostbusters cartoon. The jokes were toned down from the adult humor the first movie had.
But younaren't wrong, he was a damn good villain
@@Jnor116 It was targeted towards children? I thought it was a darker film than the first...especially the scene with the severed heads in the subway.
I guess they ain't 'fraid of no ghosts.
He scared me when I was younger I first seen the movie when I was 6 but as I got older he wasn't scary but he is a cool villian they coulda added a few things to make him better but overall he's decent I guess
1989 I was at the prime of my childhood and Ghostbusters 2 was the first movie I saw that had a truly scary villain. So being the first scary villain I ever saw in a movie, Vigo will always stand out as a frightening creature for me.
That painting used to give me nightmares lol.
Peter Macnicol was so good in this film. He was hysterical as the creepy little sycophant
Then he played Renfield in Dracula dead and loving it. XD
@@scorchx3000 A role & film that is criminally underrated in the annals of comedy.
I mean if you read up on the actor.... you'd know
Can’t overlook the late great Max Von Sydow as Vigo’s terrifying voice.
Vigy vigy vigy cant you see sometimes your eyes just hypnotize me
Remember the railroad scene when they are looking for the river of slime? That was a creepy scene as a kid!
It's amazing how much work and effort they put into making the special effects in this classic sequel.
Vigo is a frightening villain. I always enjoyed and was more afraid of Him than Gozer.
7:33 That scene of him first appearing in physical form is so great! The music, the ghosting effect as he phases back into reality, the slow walk and turn, Willhems facial expressions, the demonic voice, all perfect.
When he’s put back into the painting and reveals something of his true form is done really well too! Vigo deserves more respect
Vigo is awesome! For a villain, that is!
Vigo scared the shit out of me when I was a kid, I can remember watching this movie for the first time when I was about 12 years old and I can remember being scared to come out of my room at night because Vigo scared the hell out of me lol, they don’t put good enough attention to detail on villains these days I missed the effort that used to go into making a good movie
@@chasingdemons7231 So... you basically thought Vigo was real? I'm not saying anything negative here; I'm just confused! Vigo IS in a painting after all. At least, that's what I focused on.
@@chasingdemons7231 I agree. He scared the hell out of me when I was 6 year old in 1989. I never thought Ghostbusters films were comedies until I was older
Yeah, Vigo was badass. Like you said, the facial expressions and snarls in particular were very well done and looked so scary and intimidating.
Probably the scariest villain I’ve ever seen when I was 7
I love Janosz's expression when he realises Vigo has vanished, he's like "Did you just bail on me lord?"
Honestly, Vigo probably didn’t bail on him. The connection being broken during the soul transplant must have discombobulated him for a moment. It’s also probably why when he phased into existence, he was split between two forms.
Man...that final scene when Vigos face is disfiguring while returning back to the painting, red eyes and all would scare the shit out of me lol. I would hide in the closet and ask my older brother if the scene was over yet 😆
Gives a whole new meaning to art that speaks to you.
Now I'm cackling like a fool and my girlfriend is staring at me like I've finally gone off the deep end
I love how Ray delivers the "... It's the river of slime!" Speech with the photos
its all thanks to the "spectrum analyzer" machine they ran it through on a photo they took of the painting. Silly but funny at the same time, movie magic.
Fantastic emotion and fright in this film
You know people hate on this movie because the plot is similar/the same as the first one but the scene with the Statue of Liberty and the final fight is very enjoyable
How is it similar? Never understood that. Yeah it has tropes, and similar beats but it's like saying ice ice baby and under pressure are the same because of similar beats
@@timewarriorsaga People say that it’s the same plot as the first. No one believes in ghosts, Something Happens to Dana, a big event starts everyone to believe which then leads to the theme song of this movie, Dana is involved in the plot, The dick of the movie gets the Ghostbusters incarcerated in someway until they are released by the mayor because of a big ghost invasion to attack the main ghost.
@@Chimerayuri3 yes but ghostbusters 1 didn’t have a Statue of Liberty walking or a guy with a stroller stretching an arm to take a baby
Those were my favorite secnes
@@saulgoodman35 You mean a giant monster walking through the street and someone being possessed by a ghost? Like I said I like Ghostbusters 2. The only real difference is that the first one was slightly more adult “ ghost BJ” That’s like saying all the Fast and the furious movies are different because they take place in a different town and drive different cars. Same plot device they just changed the item.
3:34/9:36 Lol^^ for a very short moment, Vicos eyes sparkle in flame red. Evidently he's boiling over when Venkman provoked him, but Vico had to take on this humilation until the end.
05:36
Janosz: I await the word of Vigo. (checks watch)
Vigo: I, Vigo, the scourge of Carpathia-
Janosz: I know, you’ve told me this, the scurrrge
Vigo: the sorrow of Moldavia-
Janosz: Sorrows, I’ve heard all of this, yes
Vigo: COMMAND you.
Janosz: Command me, lord!
I do like how this movie was such a comedy but yet seemed serious all at the same time. It was such a perfect balance.
Gives off the same vibes as Beni from The Mummy!
My colleague and I still recite this particular scene, it's underrated hilarious!
I originally got a Vigo the Carpathian painting for my 16th birthday. I hung it up in my room but always got the feeling it was watching me. So, in the end, I burned it.
The pictures of Vigo in the red room scared me a child 😬
You're not the one and only :)
Same
The dark room? Where they're developing the photos?
Unlike you, I'm not scared of no ghost, because if I see something strange in the neighborhood, I already know who to call
@@Cerdo_asqueroso Who you gonna call?
“You’re not going to get a green card with that attitude Pal” … classic
Ghostbusters II has to be easily the most underrated movie of all the 80’s
In my opinion at least
This guy scared the daylights out of me as a kid
The bits that scared me were:
"WINSTON" in the disused subway and the train in the distance
Janosz's light up eyes.
@@MostlyPennyCat oh yeah the figures on the stakes in the subway when Winston turns around. Yeah I understand that😂
@@ant0586
It's not the heads, it's the:
Ray calls, echo returns
Egon calls, echo returns
Winston calls, silence
...pause...
_WINSTON_
That existential dread of Something In The Dark.
Then there's the heads, and then there's the train in the distance, quietly coming closer, again out of the dark.
And the way it's shot makes it look cavernous down there, so much darkness to hide in.
Fantastic stuff, I really hope they get this right with the new one, yes it's a comedy but it's also got to be serious and frightening in places, it just has to be.
Like the opening library scene where she's down in the stacks, alone as the books move behind her.
I could barely watch that as a kid.
@@MostlyPennyCat I know what you mean. The silence after Winston shouts hello is creepy. The slight noticeable movement of the camera makes it even creepier.
@@ant0586
Unlike you, I'm not scared of no ghost, because if I see something strange in the neighborhood, I already know who to call.
I wonder if the painting of Vigo the Carpathian that his spirit resides in was Ivo Shandor's backup plan to bring about the end of the world after the Ghostbusters had defeated Gozer the Gozerian and if so, the painting was probably donated to the Manhattan Museum of Art by the Shandor Foundation.
Neat idea.
Even more interesting if Vigo was actually Ivo's ancestor.
Did you notice that if you take the 'G' out of Vigo's name and rearrange the other letters you can get 'Ivo'?
You both might be onto something there... But hey it's just a theory, A FILM THEORY! But really you might be onto something...
Always count on Winston to save the day 👊🏾
“Death is but a door, time is but a window I’ll be back”
Why was Ray so mesmerized by the painting compared to the others who were near it? And Winston is a legend putting out the fire.
He was being hypnotized
Vigo took possession of him. They cut out the scenes where Ray was driving and trying to kill everyone because he was possessed
@@truliofoolio5344 True, and because of that, they cut out a bit of the comedy too, black comedy perhaps, but comedy nonetheless: When Ray is driving erratically, one of the other Ghostbusters says to him “Ray, you’re going to kill somebody!” And Ray says “No! I’m going to kill everybody!”
Ray was the most passionate enthusiast of the supernatural in the Ghostbuster's group. It was more of a job for Winston and Peter. More of a science to Egon. I think that's what made Ray vulnerable to Vigo's influence.
That look that Ray gives the painting at 3:55 is so hilarious.
I like how they planted that to show why he later turned into vego. I like how this movie was so well planned out.
There's even more to it. Hopefully on the special box set. There's a scene in the novel that a piece makes an appearance in a montage.
"death is but a door, time is but a window, I'll be back!"
Hopefully he will!
5:03 that image scared the absolute bejesus outta 8 year old me
That smirk at 1:35 is underrated and so creepy.
That's Vigo, Mr Vigooo, Vigs would you look this way please 📸 😂😂😂
That painting always gives me the creeps. 😨
That painting looks like Joe Biden lol 😂
It's always fun and pretty suspencful to reminisce about "The scruge" of where ever he tries to take over, get defended by the ghostbustin' teamwork. Stay safe everyone!
9:25 Was that still Max von Sydow doing the voice? Clearly modulated, but can't tell if it's him. One of the creepiest demonic/monstrous voices in film; right up there with the 1979 "Amityville Horror" ghost ("GET OUT...").
Yep. The guy who played him stormed out of the theatre he saw it in when he heard it, he was pissed.
Yeah yeah! Give it give it!! Yeah yeah!! I’ve worked with better.....but not many 😂
The movie needed funnier dialogue than that stuff about deciding where to order food while they're developing the photos. That's the kind of spot in the first movie where they'd work in a classic line like "That's a big Twinkie."
Macnichol was magnificent in his role, accent, you are amazing sir.
Winston is a G ! 🧯🔥🔥🔥
A G?
Yeah.. A Ghostbuster
3:06 lol 😂
Priceless
Grown ass people don't do laughing crying emojis. Just saying.
I remember goin to see this at the pics and it scared the hell outta me
Vigo still freaks me out to this day
Same. I still get scared when Vigo connects with Dr. Poha through his eyes. I was seven when I first saw this movie; scared me so bad I had nightmares for a few days. Turns out, this is one of my favorite movies.
Unlike you, I'm not scared of no ghost, because if I see something strange in the neighborhood, I already know who to call.
Peter McNicol was fantastic as Janosz.
Similarities to Gozo aside, the idea of a haunted, almost living painting, is brilliant! This is what i wish the hocruxes in harry pottet were like. Brilliant concept, brilliant execution!
this guy doesnt even hesitate for one second OOOH COMMAND ME LORD!!!!
This i remember vividly and it scared the shit out of me when i was young
The joyfulness is over!!!
“I’m preparing this portrait for the new romantic exhibition.”
Me: THAT portrait doesn’t even look remotely romantic. 🤨
it's a cover up.
Romance as in Romanticism
It’s got that Ancient Rome look and he was a prince. I bet Vigo had a bad childhood.
@@charles1203 LOL
Interesting thing is that Romanticism happened 200 years after Vigo's death. Makes me wonder if there is supposed to be more back story with the painting
Even at the age of 19, Vigo still creeps me out to this day.
Unlike you, I'm not scared of no ghost, because if I see something strange in the neighborhood, I already know who to call.
yes a child..a child. a child?? Vigo is like, oh for Pete's sake! zaps his eyes
My favourite part: 2:20 I wish peter actually painted a kitten next to Vigo. What would Vigo’s reaction would be?
“Sorrow, ive heard all of this.. yes” hahaha
7:06 this bit scared the hell out of me as a child and still does to this day.
Seeing ghostbusters afterlife today hope to see Vigo in the hoping to make sequel
It’d be nice. He deserves much more respect like Ghostbusters 2 itself. Vigo is frightening and powerful
I'm hoping Oscar makes a little appearance. Even a cameo would be great.
Yeah one of the Oscar’s actually took his own life cause he was play by twins
Vigo has great lyrics for his next death metal song.

At 8:18, Vigo looks like a missing member of Van Halen. :)
Ah, Winston… always looking out for his colleagues, always backing up his coworkers. We can all learn from Winston.
Am a huge fan of the Ghostbusters Movies
Love the GB
0:42 I expect him to go, "YISSSS MASTAAA!" lol
Unreal how much better this worked on an early 90s Panasonic CRT.
When I look at Vigo in his painting form he gives me nightmares even though he is not real
A mountain of skulls...
I guess Vigo bored A Lot of people to death with those Long Dramatic Speeches...Janosz can't get a word in edgways, and when he finally does, gets Zapped in the eyes immediatly! 🤣🤣🤣
5:26 ernie hudson does his own stunts
Vigo and the Demons in Ghost were scary asf
Am surprised there is so little feedback on the assistant. I think he is doing a great job.
Scared the absolute shite out of me as... a child 😱
Unlike you, I'm not scared of no ghost, because if I see something strange in the neighborhood, I already know who to call.
How do you think they did that special effect at 0:10 when he emerges from the painting?
I Loved This Movie A Lot! Vigo Is A Great Villain! They Should Make One Last Ghostbuster Having Vigo Ruturn
They should have Vigo return if they make another Ghostbusters movie after after life. Maybe have him team up with a new ghost boss like a haunted doll,
COVID-19: "Masks are but a door, vaccines are but a window, I'LL BE BACK."
You need more positive energy. It kills Vigo AND covid fears.
I loved him as a villain
Vigo scared me when I saw this in cinemas when I was 4 .
I love this sequel, I don’t know why it gets so much hate
Missed here devil Vigo
They sneak diss NYC the whole movie lmao 🤣
My GF was born in Romania (transylvania) but grew up in Germany. We move together. Since I'm a huge Ghostbusters Fan and she's transylvanian, Vigo's framed Poster will be on our livingroom wall.
And if any unknowing person asks who this is we say: "Thats her Ancestor. He lived from 1505 to 1610. Vigo the Cruel. Vigo the unholy. Vigo the Scourge of Carpathia. A genocidal maniac."
Let's see who laughs about it. 😂
Don’t forget, “A very powerful magician and a genius, in many ways.”
Wasent he also Vigo the butch
did you know there is a person standing in the painting pretending to be a painting but its actually just an actor standing there i saw it in a behind the scenes video
That was early footage. They tried but couldn't quite get it.
Hal holister aint takin me over r his goons and gouls
King Charles painting brought me here 😅
Almost looks like the recent painting of "King" Charles
2:20 If he only had his kitten, Vigo would not be cruel and evil.
One of my two beefs with Ghostbusters 2 was that they revealed the big bad way too soon.
I wonder who would win in a match between Gozer and Vigo
Im sure VIGO would have released Ghostbusters Afterlife on June 11th and given us a new trailer by now....But no....Your more evil then vigo! prove me wrong! Lord Vigo does not delay things!
I agree
Released ghostbusters this summer or vigo will have his revenge
To think he would go from serving Vigo.. to serving Dracula..to then serving Harvey Korman.
I Love this scene xD 1:12
He is Vigo !
0:24
Vigo is one big Dracula reference.
Ripley was good in this one. Should have said, "Get away from him you b*tch!"
Andy Dufresne escaped from prison. Now as an old man he has to escape from a painting.
Any idea what Vigo actually did to Janosz Poha?
He wasn't possessed by Vigo, as Vigo was still in the painting. He had certain supernatural abilities, but wasn't a ghost .. except for that one time he was.
I don't think it was mind control. It was more like personality control. If Vigo was being elevated from a Class 4 to a Class 7 by negatively-charged Psychomagnotheric Slime, it's conceivable that Vigo flooded Janosz with the same negative emotions that was the source of his power. Along with some of his supernatural abilities, Vigo made him more selfish, lustful, and manipulative. Maybe it was a partial possession.
I don't think it was any kind of "control" per se; more like... infatuation. Like a cult leader, his power infects his subjects (in Vigo's case literally) and they become utterly devoted to the leader's beliefs, methods, and ideas without question or hesitation.
@@Red_Beard2798 tell that to a human being who
1)rode a bike in the sky
2)had an arm stretch that would make Dhalsim blush
3) had eyes like goddamn high beams.
It was like he had control over Janosz.
Yanosh poha needs his hard drive checking .
Vigo tried to burn them because they decided on Chicago-style pizza.
I remember thanks to these guy I had nightmares with him in the paiting with the head floating 😂 vigo thank u , I had to pee on my bed many times 🤣. I see it right now am 32 back then I wass 5 . And watching him takes me back when I wass having those nightmares.
From Painting To Destroyer| The Evolution of Rj Rival | MONSTERBUSTERS 2

Heey the baby from look who's talking 😂
