That 'language card' you pulled out that said MICROSOFT on it, is actually a z80 softcard. It allows you to use CP/M and other z80 CPU based software. It's not a language card, but it does have some ram to interface with the z80 CPU on the expansion card.

The main reason most drives would not read is the RPM of the drive gets out of wack, we used to have to adjust at least one of the ones in lab on a weekly basis back when..... there is a "speed" test disk/software for the disk drives you could run then adjust the speed on the drive to be within specs is you can find a copy still ... if i recall the speed adjust is on the back right side - small flat head

The Apple II is relatively easy to work on, and parts are readily available. Shouldn't have any problem finding a replacement memory expansion card. If it were me, I'd replace all the capacitors in the power supply, especially the RIFA's.

If you want help from another youtuber that might be able to help with any of the parts removed and see what they are for, See if you can get to Adrian of Adrian's Digital Basement. He repeatedly goes through cards for various systems identifying many even if he still gets stumped he might even trade some of the spare parts you have for a working card you need to up the RAM. Never hurts to ask.

  • @idahofur

I'm to lazy to read down. So the 64k issue with the apple II+ could be a few things. Could be the card, the chips on the card or connections. One of the more common issues that even though the game requires 64k ram it also requires a IIe, IIc, etc. (Newer apple II computer). Not going into details on that. Most programs will tell you it requires a Newer apple II but some will not. The nec monitor is a great monitor to have for an apple II. I had one with my first Apple II plus and it was crystal clear. The other Microsoft card probably is a Z80 card used to run cpm. Then you have the 80 column card as pointed out. I think you also have a printer card. Educated guess on the third card over with broken cable might be a serial card. I hope this helps. Oh and for the rifa cap. That is a easy fix if you know how to solder stuff. If it does go off though. Enjoy the fart smell. :)

I used to have an Apple ][+ computer and lots of software but I let it all go quite a few years back. The noises from the drive take me back. There are times I miss not having the computer. I did keep all the documentation I had accumulated. I could help identify some of the other boards if I had some close up pictures of them. The board in slot 1 might be a rea-time clock board but that is just a guess based on some common uses for that slot. The video card at 5:14 is most likely a clone of a Videx 80-column card. Videx was a popular 80-column card back in the day. The card at 6:33 is a Z-80 CPU card. It was used to run the CP/M operating system.
