Yeeees! Cool climate regions represent...I love some VA Cab Franc as well. Thanks for this how-to; the breakdown was excellent for a beginner in vineyard management. I will never forget that toe analogy...

Very helpful! I love "gardening" or other videos about growing things, they don't get outdated. This video is several years old, but it's all relevant no matter when you watch it. Thanks for all the good tips!! I especially love the "manhandling" of the vines. I am too gentle with mine!!

Please consider doing this work using the new tractor shown here as the Miastrada Dragon.
Instead of growing weeds in the row space, you could even plant another row of vines and still leave room to get the tractor through.
From the shadows it looks like the vines could still get enough sun.

It would be helpful to add to your video if the vines rows are planted east west or north south.

Question what do you use to keep insects and that powder mildew
off of our vines? I need honeybee friendly solutions.

We are looking to plant vine rows closer together using the tractor shown at Miastrada Dragon. If twice as many rows were planted, would there be more concern about fungus? Based on traditional practice in Europe, it seems ok. But I would be interested in trading comments at that Miastrada Dragon site.

Wish we could have it where it not about old grape vines, do you have a video wen you just planted a vine from a nursery, I planted them 3 variety s are concord purple, flame light purple and interlaken green, around the ending of march now its august 20 201I 6 months of growth, now I live on oahu hawaii we no more snow or its not too cold so now my vines are really growing good some are pencil size already, now wen December come this year i have to prune the vine or should I wait till later on I was told that newly planted vine first and secondyear take offf any cluster the first two years, then start to take the grapes the 3rd year, in hawaii will the vine go thru the same as your vine will in the winter time , so while I prune this year and let it go thru it cycle, mahalo cuz for your time aloha from Oahu Hawaii pearl city, pacific palisades 96782 I live about 750 elevation up the mountain

Video of how not to do! The most harmful video of farming practices on the grapes.

It would have been nice for you to post WHY you think this is damaging. When i compare his to other videos, the most obvious thing to me is the lack of concern over a balance of fruit to foliage. Seems like "old" methods tend to actually try to limit the number of leaves per cluster. No reason given. Here the less refined method but more effective way to open the clusters to the sun makes some sense to me, though i wonder if that is more important for colored varieties than is it for whites? Do you want a stronger tasting white? or is it more about sugar production?
I suppose this is a primer and not the complete guide so i take it for what it is worth. Thank you for the video!
