  • Wellbeing is more than simply physical. The past year and a half will have taken an emotional toll on us all - but especially on those who have lost loved ones to Covid-19. We at Wellbeing Merthyr have commissioned / created a series of memorial works, one of which we would like to share with you here.
The pebbles that feature in this video - bearing the names of loved ones lost to the illness - will form part of a permanent memorial installation behind Merthyr Tydfil Central Library, that will allow family and friends to reflect on their loss.
The poem, Let Us Take A Moment, was written by Hannah Beck.
It is narrated by Osian Llewelyn Edwards.
    ***
    Let Us Take A Moment
    When an insidious illness,
that brought the world to its knees,
did not discriminate between old and young
and stole our loved ones with such cruel ease
    we could never have envisioned
    the heartache we would endure.
Now our town feels a little emptier
without these souls so warm and pure.
A town grieving for so many
taken far too soon in life.
Our broken hearts litter these sombre streets
while our tears flow with the bitter sting of a knife.
So let us take a moment
    to stand still and reflect,
while memories tumble down our cheeks
for those we have lost but will never forget.
