  • When Chuu was suddenly kicked out of her group, LOONA, on November 25, 2022, to say this shocked the K-pop world was an understatement. Chuu was one of the most popular idols in the group, the group looked to further their popularity overseas, and they looked to be a stable group, having been around since 2016.
    People quickly sided with the star idol, Chuu, over her label, Blockberry Creative (BBC), known to be a shady company in the industry. Yet, when a Dispatch article laid out what happened between its star idol and label, this revealed the bigger truth. This truth would be BBC’s ultimate PR nightmare.
    Let’s delve in-depth why so many people defended Chuu, why BBC looks horrible from this, and how LOONA’s Chuu already changed the K-pop industry.

    Chuu/Jiwoo is a example of how having a kind heart and beautiful personality can have such a lasting effect on those around you to the point where THEY WILL COME FROM ANYWHERE & EVERYWHERE TO DEFEND YOU

    What I think is wild is that companies are backing Chuu when usually companies will drop a person in a heartbeat if they go against their company, in general. This is a huge deal in my eyes. BBC ended up with egg on their company face. That had to be so satisfying to see and hear.

    Oh... and look at what we have now thanks to Chuu standing for herself - Chuu's album, new OEC album, Loosemble album, Haseul concerts, Heejin album (almost). Nothing like this would have never happened were not for Chuu (and her mother) and all those who defended her including the fans and their boycott. It is all actually really huge and shows that one can stand up for oneself and that fans should not just consume what idols prepare for them irrespective of what are the conditions. They are human beings, not slaves. They should be backed up even if it means we might not hear their songs again. Fortunately, we now have more than just 1 album per year. :-)

    I always know big things are happening in kpop when you're releasing a new video. I love your channel and how informative it is. I can't wait to get your perspective on the SM/Kakao/Hybe drama going on at the moment.

    • @Popsori
      @Popsori  Рік тому +8

      I heard about Kakao and Hybe buying out shares of SM Entertainment. I never thought this would happen, as SM was the clear number 1 K-pop label for such a long time. There's always something interesting happening in the K-pop world!
      And once again, thank you so much for watching my videos. I truly appreciate you being around and your comments :)

    Great job! Your videos are always so thorough and I love that. You really hit it on the head with Lesson #7. Whenever I heard something about BBC I wondered how they able to front so much money and justify spending that much being a small/mid-size company that never debuted a group before. I honestly thought it was possibly a money laundering scheme. Bad business decision overall that set the girls and the company up for failure.

      Thank you for the kind words! I'm honored that you watch my videos.
      As for your take, it's crazy how much BBC spent as a small/mid-sized company just starting out, looking like a money laundering scheme on the outside. It just sucks that there's some K-pop labels that set up their idols for failure from the very start :(

    A decent detailed summary of the BBC Loona situation! I sure hope you are right about the industry also supporting Chuu with opportunities, but the powers-that-be in the Kpop industry may not like idols rebelling against one of their own (even tho bad). It may be that the laws change to protect the artists just like in the US movie industry with child actor laws and unionization. Some bills for full yearly disclosure of debt/earnings for each idol is currently running the course in the Korean legal system.
    In any event, I hope you do a follow up video to include what's now happening with Universal Music Japan's own contract with the Loona members, and the power play now in the courts between them and BBC for Loona control.

    • @Popsori
      @Popsori  Рік тому

      Yeah, the contract with Universal Music Japan is great if LOONA can land it. I do think the power play by BBC is horrible and unprofessional. I hope LOONA wins out and gets out of their label.

    Blockberry is part of a big military weapon company in South Korea. So it won’t surprise me if the insanely huge initial investments in Loona’s predebut solo projects were part of a money laundering efforts. This theory could also explain why Blockberry hasn’t pursue Loona and its members the way SM pursued JYJ the former members of TVXQ.

    Great video! Just wondering if you could make a video in what makes a group an official “Nation’s girl/boy group” because I want to know how/which recent groups qualify.

    Thank you for this video. I assumed you are aware for Blockberry's petition to Korea Entertainment Management Association and the Korea Entertainment Producer Association to ban activities of Chuu and the 4 OEC+ members who won their injuction. Was hoping to know what your thoughts were on this from your experience of this industry?
    Union Loona have submitted Orbits' own petition to the losing members' law firm to use in their appeal case in having an injunction granted. Hoping all members can finally be free from this agency.

    • @Popsori
      @Popsori  Рік тому +2

      Ahhh yeah, I heard about the BBC petition to the Korean Entertainment Management Association when the video was processing. So unfortunately, I couldn't add the horrible BBC petition in time.
      I do think that BBC is very petty in trying to ban Chuu and other LOONA members in Korea. I hope they lose their court case, but we'll see with the Korean courts. I'd love if LOONA could be free from their agency too!

    BBC is both shame and remorse on the table. It's often erratic and overly corrupted. Do they have to want until 2025 for the end of their roads? How many year contract have they signed? Is it 9 years?

  • @JiaPia3

    People are calling on Elon Musk because Gowan from Loona is the godmother to his and Grimes’ baby. It’s not random.

    • @Popsori
      @Popsori  Рік тому

      Oh, for sure and I should have added what you said in the video.
      I was meaning that it's random to the average K-pop fan that does not know the backstory, nor follow LOONA.
